The meat at Taco Bell isn't only beef either, so the extra ingredients in your dollar store substitute might actually be pretty close. Reportedly only 88% of the Taco Bell mixture is actual beef, with the rest of it being torula yeast and various starches, emulsifiers and sweeteners. And of course spices and other seasonings just like you would use to flavor ground beef for tacos at home.
I used to work there and will never forget the stench of the meat before it was boiled omg so potent and disgusting I’m sure this mixture is 100% better smelling in this video!
I can’t remember which episode you made the cream of broccoli soup with the pioneer sausage mix, but I want to tell you I just made it and it is delish and so easy to make! Thank you.
The turkey may be so salty because it was only 5 ounces and you put half a packet of seasoning on it where the beef was 8 ounces. One package is usually for 1 pound of meat I believe.
Well, I really enjoyed this video. It was fun to watch you come up with the different combinations, and then taste and evaluate them. And I will make this at home now! I have always thought they were too expensive at Taco Bell for what they are. Thanks! (by the way, I really like your channel)
Never had one at Taco Bell, but I would definitely make a version similar to yours. You could use a lid from a large pot to place over the pizza on a plate to help melt the cheese. 😀
Just found this online: "The Mexican Pizza returned to the menu in all its previous glory, complete with the same ingredients including seasoned beef and refried beans between two fried flour tortillas, topped with pizza sauce, three-cheese blend and fresh diced tomatoes." You used corn tortillas so that might be making a bit of a difference. as well.
I’m so happy to see this video! Taco Bell in my area has stopped selling Mexican pizzas (the only reason to go to Taco Bell imo). Now I can try to make it at home.
The turkey burger has salt in it, based on the info on the pkg label.....as does the taco seasoning...might be better to add chilli powder and cumin and any other spices you prefer, to season it. That way you're not adding any additional salt to the burger...a good way to tell if it'll make a difference is to taste the turkey burger plain, without any additions, see if it tastes salty by itself.
I worked at Taco Bell too! it was my first "real job". I LOVEDDDDDDD the gorditas, that may be before your time. But they had a Chicken Sante Fe Gordita that was delish!
Before they came out with the pizzas and we are talking back when Taco Bell first opened, they had a crunchy tostada that had the same ingredients as,a pizza and was the best thing ever. One crunchy flat taco with pizza ingredients and sour cream with black olives across the top.
This is a great idea you came up for a good dinner. beef and turkey added red 🍅sauce at a dollar tree pizza sauce half and half. Cheese is so cheap at the dollar tree. I could try the two substitutes purpose is too cook and add to my pot of noodles. Good dinner. Also meat seasoning diy recipes for corn shell tacos and cheese........... I'd like to know how I could cook with either chicken or subsition ground turkey/ beef
I loved this video. Hearing you used to work at Taco Bell answers my question of how you can so beautifully fold burritos. Taco pizza was a fave of mine, too, especially around 2 a.m. 🌮🍕
I have used the ground turkey aka turkey patty I like it also I used flour tortillas and Colby jack cheeses and baked in oven I heard taco bell meat is ground beef mixed with oatmeal not sure if true.
@@DollarTreeDinners I am strange. I watch cooking videos but I don't really cook. I am disabled and it is hard to stand up for a lengthy amount of time. You did AMAZING THO
I dont inderstand why beef with added soy protein is cheap because they are using soy as filler to stretch the meat but if you buy an all soy burger (meatless) its 2-3 times what beef costs.
I figured that if Im going to keep commenting I should subscribe.. I am not a fan of those burger patties, they are almost a third liquid, although not taco bell authentic the sausage chub would be a better choice imo..have to admit Ive never cooked the beef patties this way and I always say anything is edible with enough spices so I may have to revisit these. I was thinking "mix them together" and you did.. My daughter is law is still mad at TB so Im sharimg this to her and Im definitely going to try the mixed meat in tacos or burritos .. the pizzas are just to messy for me...
Anytime meat looks questionable I think it’s safe to give it a pass. Apparently the veggie meatballs are good at DT… I’d love to see you try those at some point.
Oh dear. That’s disappointing. We don’t have frozen or refrigerated items in our DT but I’ve heard those were good. Questionable looking food scares me quite a bit so I’m always worried when I see someone eating something they aren’t sure about. Thanks for responding! ♥️
I mean you get what you get with the dollar tree and it's sometimes questionable for sure but people eat it and for some people it's all they have access to so I keep that in mind and try not to be too picky :)
Absolutely! When we were staying in a small town outside of New Orleans there was only a DT within miles so we shopped there a lot. Luckily we had access to lots of fresh vegetables because at the place we were staying had a garden.
I know I found this video very "after- the- fact", but have you done the pantry staple video? If so, would you please tell me the title (or give me a link)?
Could you put the tortilla in an air fryer to get it crispy? As I’ve said in your other videos…USE KITCHEN SHEARS vs the 3 mins of trying to cut w a knife!😉
Such a cool idea! Would love to see more of these very creative videos!! Maybe more Taco Bell items, other fast food/familiar menus using DT items. Also maybe recipes incorporating free condiments (hot sauce, Mayo/ketchup packets, soy sauce and chili from take out, free gas station or deli items, etc). Looking forward to future videos ☺️
I started watching ur videos and I was wondering if u could do kid lunches also. It's good to finally actually see meals that are cheap. Maybe, do some bigger meals for big family ❤
Great job 👏 👍. Looks delicious, but you had more filling on the Taco pizza than what Taco Bell actually gives customers😥. The last time I bought this , I was like, where's the beef and beans probably only had a teaspoon of meat and beans 😢. I like your Taco Bell Pizza better 😋. Oh, you look beautiful with red hair . My son was a red headed when he was born but sadly he has lost his beautiful red hair😢. But he does have a halo of strawberry blonde around his hair line. You look beautiful ❤🎉😂
They used to have a quiserito (I'm not sure if that's the right spelling) and they discontinued it. It broke my sons heart he loved them. Could you remake that and do a video on it. Please? 😅
They had a Cheesarito for a long time. It got us through college cause it was on their cheap menu! We made our own with shredded cheese and salsa or taco sauce wrapped in a flour tortilla, microwaved til melty! I am now craving one of those!

This is a young woman who could only cook a few meals when she left home. I'm proud of her. My, did she grow up. Lol

😮😮😮😮😮
There was a rumor a few years back that they put horse meat in it.
just like at home the meat used for tacos is beef, taco seasoning, I put some onion, ect.
I couldn't help but see all of those wonderful bottles or Torani syrups in the background , wow !
Back when I worked at TB, green onions were also put on the mexican pizza

Yes you are right.
And I reckon pork is more salty??
You have the coolest DT recipe ideas!!!
How fun!! These looked great!! I also liked hearing the crunch of the tortillas. Jim!
Crunch is so satisfying lol
You could also use the Farmer John sausage chub or links that DT sells. With the taco seasoning it would taste about the same. Thanks for the video.

Oh thats a great suggestion! I never thought of doing that!
You can throw it in the microwave to meltdown the cheese
And if you sprinkle a few drops of water around it with the lid on it will do even better.

I worked at Taco Bell in the early to mid 90s and we used deep fried flour tortillas. 😮 we also put olives on it.
So did we from 1989-1994
yes, it originally was fried FLOUR tortillas and it also had black olives and green onions

Thanks for shateing this. Can't wait to try. By the way, would love to seee a pantry basics video.
You mixing the meats is like the taco bell test kitchen. Mix some of that with some of that and bada bing we got a winner!
Lol I always use the Tony Chaceres Cajun season for me Turkey meats. Along with, pepper, basil and oregano. 👌 😋
These were my favorite thing to get at Taco Bell.. I think they stopped making them - thanks for the video- I will give the real cheese version a try!
I think so too! The internet did not confirm but last time I went to taco bell it definitely wasn't on the menu. Please let me know how you like it!!

I made it too but Flour tortillias work best
Which is red vs pizza sauce? Which was from salsa?
The food pantry gives us grated cheese that does not melt and it tastes unlike cheese or food period.
Mix the two

On The taco bell website
the tortillia is not corn, it's flour ...... I ve read it on their website

Is it true that Taco Bell puts oats in their ground beef?
Not that I’m aware, the boxes always were just beef and spice’s basically
