A tip for fried rice is to use day old rice or rice that's been sitting in the fridge so it's more dried out and will fry easier. You freeze large batches of rice, where you individual package them so it will save less time when cooking

A hack I've begun using is putting rice into a muffin pan and freezing them, before long term storage in a freezer bag. Then I can take 1 or 2 rice pucks and reheat them easily.

Making a combo of your recipes for dinner tonight. Made my own crab Rangoon, but your “lo mein” and fried rice with chicken breast (we don’t eat pork and had fresh chicken breast) also grabbed some dumplings and egg rolls. I’ve been looking forward to dinner all day. So has my son. Love your videos!!!

I think your eggs became to fine when you pressed through the strainer... I think some of those connected parts make the egg ribbons, and I normally "pour off a fork" instead of dumping all the eggs in at once.

Here in 2024. A good addition is the egg rolls from Dollar tree. While still a little expensive at a $1.25 a piece you only need one because they are huge and they are so yummy. I highly recommend the lobster roll.

I like spam/luncheon meat. It is so versatile and it used to be very cheap around here (Central and Eastern Europe). We don!t have spam but we have several different brands. Unfortunately these became so expensive...it is literally a theft. Aldi still has a 500g luncheon meat for about two dollars but it is very soft and very very greasy :( My grandma and her peers used to a eat a lot of "spam" back in the communist days. They fried it up or breaded it into flour-egg-breadcrumb style batter and then fried it up. It is tasty and a good protein source :)

I love finding "new" videos on your channel!! Okay so I'm new the video isn't but you nailed this. I might have picked up the spring rolls if they were in stock but the wasabi snacks are something I haven't seen before. My ex-husband is Chinese and I STILL can't make egg drop soup, so I think you did a great job. It might not "look" perfect but ingredient wise it's more than fine! And if you were putting together a dinner like this it would be fun to have and hot soup fills people's tummies.
I also found one where you spoke to living in an area with limited grocery choices. You are a super hero.

Hi Rebecca and Mike, I know you were working within the parameters of the challenge BUT, whenever I have a soup that's too salty I find a adding unsalted homemade stock of any kind (especially in Chinese cooking) by tablespoons until it's okay, usually fixes the problem. I add a spoon at a time and taste all along til I'm no longer wincing. All the Best Jim Oaxaca

8:37 Try using thin spaghetti noodles for $1.25 (in place of the yakasobi noodles) with that seasoning packet+soysauce+brown sugar mixture you made...add a little bit of vinegar to that mixture (instead of water) and then pan-fry with a little bit of the minced garlic. You can add some water if you like...but only enough to soften the thin spaghetti and/or make dish less salty, if necessary. Lastly, add the veges and protein of your choice (maybe top with everything bagel seasoning, crushed peanuts or even dry onion flakes, chives & parsley for presentation since DollarTree do not have scallions) and enjoy! 😊

Another great cheap meal, not sure if the dollar tree has it but 1 can of beef tips and gravy, 1 packet of brown gravy and cook 1 cup of rice. Cook rice and set aside, add the can of beef tips along with the gravy packet and use half cup extra water than the gravy calls for , heat that in a pot, once its heated add the rice and stir together or put scoop of beef tips and gravy over rice on a plate.
