This song is about how Hamilton made deals to get his bill thought Congress by giving away were the Capital of the US would be placed. Up until then it had been in New York. After meeting with some of the leaders from the Southern states it was moved to what is now my hometown Washington D.C. Both Maryland and Virginia give up land in their states to make this new city. There are no notes taken from this meeting so we don't know what these men did to come up with this deal. This marks the moment in the musical were Burr see it's time to stop waiting and start acting to get his self some power.
I find this particular animatic very interesting. First of all, nope, Alexander Hamilton didn't stab Burr and he hasn't shot Alex (yet). I think the stab thing was an allegory, while Alex said "What do you want Burr? If you stand for nothing what would you fall for?" It must have felt like a sucker punch to Burr because even though he was patient, he was left behind by the founding fathers. Then the animatic shows Burr's frustration and willingness to be in the room where the important decisions happen and, indeed, his grudge against Alexander Hamilton which is growing and will be very important in the next songs.
What I find most interesting is how after Say No To This Alexander's singing voice starts getting progressively less passionate, less excited, less loud. It reflects how terrible he feels it only gets worse after his son dies. As he starts to place more blame on himself he starts to give up, he becomes less lively and this continues on until he dies except for a few key moments where he remembers who he used to be, where he remembers his morals.
The animatics can be confusing cause they try to do way too much if you don’t know the musical. Thats why its good to pick one artist and just stick to them. Easier to follow
all the animatics for this song are so creative love watching them. also this songs just Really catchy and the lyrics are very clever. lots and lots of symbolism and metaphors.
This is the major turning point for Burr. Remember, up till now Burr have been *Waiting* for his opportunities to come whereas Hamilton have been *taking* every chance (or opportunity) he have to clime his way out of poverty. But now, Burr is gonna do the same thing Hamilton is doing. *Taking every chance (or opportunity) he have.* Up till now Burr didn’t have strong ambitions. But now.... Things are about to change.
The whole video is very metaphorical, and it slips up by sort of assuming that anybody watching already knows the story of Hamilton. It's basically about the deal that Jefferson, Hamilton and Madison came to where the capital would be moved from New York to Washington DC, and in return Hamilton would get the votes he needed for his financial plan. Burr is just a lawyer at this point, and other than being acquaintances with Hamilton and some other powerful people, he has absolutely no connection to the power of those in government. He's commenting on how the 'normal people' have no idea about the negotiations and games that are played in order to get huge, wide reaching government decisions through, because 'no-one else was in the room where it happened', which is a thing that totally applies in modern times too. It's also a big turning point in Burr's character because he realises that being patient is not working - he's 'waited for it' for a while now and just seen everybody else he knows get more powerful while he stays where he is, in the mid section of the song Hamilton all but mocks him to his face about this. And so this is the point where Burr decides to no longer wait, and ACT. He doesn't shoot Hamilton though (yet); that's a metaphor in the song and the animatic. He actually just runs for Senator as you'll find out soon. The stabbing and the shooting are both visual metaphors for Burr and Hamilton's intense rivalry, right up until the point where it gets out of hand at the end and Burr will LITERALLY shoot him.
Yeah. The first time I heard this,Burr sounded so much like some conspiracy theorist. Even though all he said was true. It's that odd level of paranoia,of continous speculation. It's familiar in the modern sense, but rather disturbing on Burr himself, much like Hamilton's own....turn.
The "click, boom!" at the end is actually because right after this song, the audience finds out that Burr became senator of NY, replacing Alexander's father-in-law Phillip Schuyler, so he "took his shot", as Alex has been nagging him to do for the entire show, especially in this song ("If you've got skin in the game, you stay in the game, but you don't get a win unless you play in the game. Oh, you get love for it, you get hate for it, you get nothing if you wait for it...") but, of course Alex plays the victim and feels like Burr taking his father-in-law's Senate seat is a personal attack on him, rather than Burr doing _exactly what he has been telling Burr to do for the entire show._
Fun Fact I Think You'll Like: for the line "where to put the capital" the ensemble cast were asked to yell the first city they could think of and hope it was in the 13 colonies. If you listen for it you can hear that one of them yells Toronto 🤣🤣
This animatic has a lot of metaphors and it’s amazing if you already know what’s happening. If you’re confused check out another one either way one of my favorite songs. I don’t suggest it for a first time blind reaction though.
This animatic was not good. I think the art was beautiful but it was confusing for me and I’ve listened to this song a million times. Essentially, Burr just realized he’s been left behind as with the rest of the nation on national affairs. He realizes the only way to really influence the direction of the country is to be at the negotiating table.
LuminaryPrism75 Not really, if you know the whole story it’s not that hard to figure out. But if you’re listening to it for the first time like them however...
I am so lost with this animatic. I can't figure out WTF any of it is supposed to symbolize. Honestly, had they just done an animatic with the actual situation on stage, that would have been a lot less confusing.
And we're not even near the end yet.....be prepared to take a few more plummets on the emotional roller coaster this show is.....then once you've recovered react to Hadestown.
This animation was not the one i was expecting you guys to react to. I dont think it portrays the song very well. It gets points right but can lead to some pretty big confusing point. Edit: if you get a chance , id recommend the one posted by SaffeeBear . Best animated version by far for this song and way clearer on conveying the musical number the way it was meant to be
God this was a terrible animatic. I hope you rewatch another. It’s terrible because it uses SO many different visuals and symbolism that you forget what the hell goes on.

Excellent! Good work!

Yeah, he’s basically spitting his motto mockingly back at him, it’s so cold.
@@landosalemchainsaw and it's so poetic, that only scene made The room where it happens one of my very favorite songs of the whole thing
This animatic while lots of interesting visuals and great art, was not the best at showing what's happening
Shrimp I agree with you, when Hamilton “stabs him” in the animatic it made them believe he was evil.
@@TheJGuy-mq5do yeah
@@TheJGuy-mq5do He *was* evil from Burrs perspective.
@@TheJGuy-mq5do Tbh, Hamilton wasn't exactly good
@@rpaul4197 I mean, it's my opinion, so yes it is, "buddy" :)
no the song is being told through burr’s perspective. that’s why he’s seeing hamilton like this

The McBeth curse

Bunnitt W Well you can’t, cause not one artist makes animatics for the whole musical
Ghost Pix Szin did or at least did almost every single one
Moli Only for Act 1, no one has done anything comparable for Act 2
all the animatics for this song are so creative love watching them.

I am not a big fan of reaction videos in general, but I am so invested in this journey for you two. I. Can't. Wait.
It’s a metaphorical stab in the back type thing. It’s a good song though
I suddenly realize just how much JV looks like the guy who played Burr.
El Bruce he looks nothing like him...?
Don't worry, hamilton doesn't get shot in this or the next song😂 also love you guys ❤
jamaʀy hamilton he doesn’t get shot until he pays for his promiscuity outside of wed 🎶
the song is happening in his head and Hamilton words from all over the play are haunting him

This entire song pretty much depicts Burr's descent into madness
This animatic is just visual metapfors
Burr was being resentful of being left out of the decisions.
Can’t wait for the next video 😆
It's an interesting animatic, awesome visuals BUT... Not at all what happened in the show... You should check another one...
99% of this whole show is just Burr being salty

Schuyler Defeated Next!
Y’all need to react to congratulations from Hamilton it was canceled from the musical but it’s amazing so yeah should react to it!!!
Burr didn't get stabbed tho in the musical

Okay amazing art but burr didn’t get stabbed. Like Hamilton didn’t want to kill Burr at all. It’s just hard to understand the visuals.
Do first burn
Why are they so confused with this?
I love the song but they didnt talk in the reaction
Mostly
It's not the best story animatic, the artist kinda just went with what's cool and not a clear indication of what happens
Yeah don't take these videos literally
god this is the _worst_ animatic for a blind reaction
This animatic has a lot of metaphors it’s not good for a first time watch
