One of my favorite things when analyzing Stockfish's games is when Stockfish gives itself brilliant moves or inaccuracies
Probably analyzing at a higher depth
@@patstaysuckafreeboss8006 Higher depth, and the browser integrated version is often not the latest update
@@jean-pierrecoffe6666 not to mention it's just straight-up less performant. Like, yeah WASM is pretty fast, but definitely not at native speeds - typically being 50%-250% slower - so that much less computation done and that many less brilliancies and inaccuracies gleaned
it's a low depth version analyzing the better one though
@dude3000 yeah, they use stockfish, but the stockfish algorithm doesn't really have "brilliancy" or "inaccuracies", every position simply gets a score. The chess website decides what those are.
Levy talking about his dog gives the same vibes as when you try to distract the teacher by making him talk about his life 😂
Bro, this gave me major flashbacks. I don't remember doing it myself, but I definitely witnessed in the classroom and it was fucking funny haha
Relatable AS FUCK.
@Seeing Star is this a link to my childhood?? or?
Very astute observation.
Like, I can't follow what's being said in the class but have you heard what Trump said about XYZ?
so true! 🤣
"I'm giving Stockfish an honorary Grandmaster title"
Stockfish: am I a joke to you?
Stockfish is no mere GM
Lmao Stockfish solos the whole verse
Levy should’ve given them honorary engine master titles
Stockfish should grant humans GM titles if they can draw against Stockfish jk
Stockfish is a gm, god master
just love this guy's attitude and personality. Watching him is more fun than playing chess.
hes basicly gatekeeping us from getting good with good content :D haha love it
What happened to alphazero?

@@yousufownzu6902 yes
One of the things I *LOVE* about engine games is how the tempo can get so high that they won't make immediate takes because something else needs to happen first and that something else is so important that they will just leave pieces lying around
Do you know that the concept of having pets indoors and pets being cute and cuddly are not universal?
@@micayahritchie7158 Wrong reply?
@@Yafama Going to be real with you. I don't remember commenting here and I can't find it so idk
@@micayahritchie7158 that comment looked so out of place 😂😂😂
Did you smoke something before you commented?
@@Herculean.Aficionado i still can't see the comment you're referring to
If Stockfish sacrifices material seemingly for no reason in the endgame (sometimes even a full queen), it's probably because it's close to getting into a theoretical (100%) known win according to the tablebase. It sacrifices the pieces to get into a known win faster (a position with 6 or 7 pieces on the board).
That's also my guess, if I'm not mistaken, the game is Superfinal game 88, and sf already given 150+ evaluation on move 53.
I think the engines are only given 6 piece tablebase not 7 and that's why Leela instantly resigned when there are only 6 pieces left
If that is true, that is also very sad.
I posted this as well. It's because of TB probing. I'm surprised at how little chess masters know about how these chess engines work, seeing as how they have to use them all the time in pre-game prep. Also there's a lot of people confused in the comments asking why Leela didn't get a shot as white in the same opening. TCEC does in fact give each side a chance at the same opening, and SF still blew Leela out of the water with something like 18 winning game pairs to just ONE for Leela.
I mean, to an engine, a known win is no different than a checkmate, so logically, a known win in 2 would be preferred to a checkmate in 3.
We're doomed when Stockfish becomes self-aware
Legit 😅😅
En passants behind you
yeah he is a real creep
Check mate...

So, which horror movie villain would get Levy: Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, his wife (as a zombie), his dog (as a zombie), his wife (Bodysnatched), his dog (alien parasite), the person who was murdered in his apartment (as a ghost), homicidal wasps, demons (the Devil's Advocate type - he lives in NYC)?
@Toshinben even the scream guy would get him

If this game had been submitted for Guess The Elo, what would Levy's guess had been? 😂
400
16660
I'm thinking either 2700. I don't see any guess from 1000-2700 that would make any remote amount of sense.
600 elo definitely
@@Lordmewtwo151 I don't think any two 2700+ players are ever playing this
The dog interactions made me so incredibly happy.
They say Levi's dog is still squeaking to this day.
I remember when Leela was 1600 and I almost won a game against her. Later when Leela was around 2700 I really hoped for Magnus vs Leela game, human versus artificial intelligence, but sadly such a match never happened.
There was a Leela vs penguin match though which you might find interesting.
@@BrennenChua yeah, that bullet match was exciting, I believe i even watched part of if live.
But you know, I really wanted kind of Kasparov vs Deep Blue V2 match. Classical match. Deep positional thinking, who could win, a human, or a machine that thinks more like a human.
But now it's far too late. Maybe another chance will emerge if some new revolution in technology happens and it will be used to create even more different chess AI.
Magnus coward
You have me. I drew against Stockfish at its highest level. I was the first player in a QP game. I do not think anyone can win against it though a draw is not a loss.
@@Greatermaxim i drew out komodo dragon

20:17 We saw with the high level GO and DotA AIs that once they were guaranteed to win they started making moves that were no longer optimal. They didn't care if they won by a tiny margin or a massive one.
I came here after watching 40K videos and I thought my TH-cam app was glitching because when you said "DotA AI" I thought it said "DAoT AI" and my brain basically had to reboot
That's really interesting, do we have an explanation for that?
Is it possible that it was diverting the king so that it could safely play Bc5?
edit: what am I talking about the king moved on its own between those
@@KitKatHexe I smell heresy
@@snbeast9545 no i honestly think you're right! I cant begin to comprehend all the lines that could've come from not sacking the pawn but it very much looks like a classic attraction tactic and i can definitely imagine how the king on the 6th rank is better for black in some way so white chose to attract it to the 5th. If the king just moves out of check that pawn becomes another threat of queening. Again im no engine but in my eyes its more likely to be an attraction tactic rather than a humorous blunder
Anyone who has a problem with your dog being in a video is the guy who the friend group secretly starts another group chat just to exclude.
I appreciate you not cutting any part of the dog interaction. We are so used to videos being altered to show only the best and seeing that whole section felt really nice for a change!
We want to see more of stockfish games from you levy
It's probably nothing
Levy: "What they do is make the chess engines perverted.."

Well it's clear that if Stockfish didn't senselessly give up the pawn in the endgame the game would not have ended on move 69 which would have been an L for everyone.
Stockfish playing for Norway is so great
One of its inventor is from Norway
and its a also fitting because the best player is from Norway too

Levy I’ll be totally honest, even ignoring your chess skill, you genuinely are just an amazing teacher. You’re just such a sociable guy, and I feel like you could talk about anything, no matter how boring, and be enticed by it. That’s true skill telling from my attention span lol.
One of the most amazing games I've ever seen. Shows what happens when the world's two greatest chess players ever face off.
Oh my. Next time Benji appears in a TH-cam video, he will be bigger than Levy!
That black rook which was open to take so many times.. survived till the end with his king--"Legendary Rook"
You know you are winning when the bar shows up for you even before the opening.
Nice name
I didn't see this TCEC game live, and it somehow flew under my radar, so thanks for covering it, Levy! Utterly bonkers. Worth mentioning that when Stockfish was forced to play black from the same starting position, Leela was able to win as well in a more straightforward game, with a very AlphaZero-style early pawn push to h6.
I expected a fish, got a dog. Not complaining.
Imagine Tal playing in this computer era.. it would be amazing to see it working with them
Love when Benji comes through
Ah yes, a chess game played on a knife edge
How this guy can even make a robot battle so interesting?
I like how you break down games, but I also like seeing Levy, the human being, living life.
Clearly you skip the starts of the videos if you think levi is human
@@theblinkingbrownie4654 Detroit becomes human reference? the blinking lights on the side of his head indicating he might a robot that turned deviant??
I love engine videos. Makes me realize how little we understand about chess and that’s a surprisingly great feeling.
For me that is also scary in a way
The dog clearly thought Mittens was playing...
Love how the rook which was hanging half of the game is the only black piece that survived until the end
Great game that manages to be a 360 and 3600 elo game at the same time.
Joined for the chess, stayed because of the dog
you know a game is wild when the player who is up on material is losing.
gotta love stockfish awarding stockfish a good evaluation
Stockfish solved chess like levy solved the youtube algorithm
Levy talking about his dog shows how good person he is
Bots programmed to play weird moves.
Hikaru and his Bong Cloud: Don't look at me.
The dog will destroy Stockfish 100 and Alphazero 100 easily and find blunders in their moves
Stockfish is great but Benji is way too cute to overlook. Wish benji all the health
Actually loved Benji's moves
The answer to "should I show the dog again" is always "yes, Levy. We love puppies".
Leela takes Stockfish into the deep forest like Tal, but Stockfish knows the ways.
I completely support the puppy break in the video 🐕
kinda wish the rook that was hanging for half the game would be the last piece remaining for black but just wasn't the case...
I forgot how big Benji got, and burst out laughing when Levy had trouble lifting him up
DONT SAY SORRY TO US, that puppy needs ALL your loves!
sotckfish sacrifices THE FIIIIIIISH

Stockfish: "Mate in 141421356237 moves for white".
Sometimes I get annoyed when Gotham gets distracted and starts talking of something else. But I just can't get mad for that cute puppy its so cuuuute
Hi Levy. It is always a pleasure for me to bring something new to chess. Also, Leela is overrated.
Yeah, unless you have a ridiculous GPU, Leela's just bad. Komodo definitely the #2 followed by Ethereal.
@@shambhav9534 I mean I guess it depends how you're rating being "better" in that case. Like if you're talking about what's the best engine to run on your 3 yo laptop then sure, Leela won't be as good. But when we're talking about TCEC, it's about the pinnacle of engine performance, the hardware used is essentially irrelevant. It's like saying F1 cars are bad because they aren't good for going to the grocery store.
Being mad at levy for getting distracted is like being mad at magnus for winning games. It's what you do and it's why we watch
Levy's "This is just the beginning!" has the same energy as Vizzini's "But I'm only just getting started!" from The Princess Bride. XD
I absolutely love how there is an eval bar when stockfish is playing
they play like 500 elo grand master if levy dont explain why this move is good
This video is legendary man. I laughed so much in the portions, when Levy just makes random sounds, yes I am a child. Love the content, keep it up
Stockfish may think it’s solved chess. But I saw the Gotham’s video where it was absolutely annihilated by AlphaZero
That was an era ago tho. Computer chess has evolved quite a bit since then. Consider that back in 2019 (I believe it was) Leela demolished SF, but now SF is back to being the strongest
12:19 the queen is the most valuable piece in the game.... unless the engine sorta kinda doesn't like the position.
The best part was the dog information
I love these games, they keep the intrest up through out the entire game. Make more AI vs AI videos
Stockfish speaks for itself
thank you for the lovely videos. these engine matches are fascinating and so much fun to watch! you do such a great job being entertaining and interesting. the dog cameos brought a smile to my face too :)

You do not have to apologise for the dog! The dogs loves you unconditionally, and it made the whole thing so much better!
Who wins if they do the exact opening but with Stockfish as black?

14:49 he's just.. standing there. MENACINGLY
Benji is already so big. I love him.
We all need our gotham chess daily dose
This is YOUR daily dose of Gotham
Sacing the last pawn shut the king out from the other side of the board. Look where the rook went and stayed.
20:38 "I mean the computer is such a scumbag, there is no need to play like this" bahahah ah I laughed so hard at this
I am 100% happy with Benji appearances in any and all of your videos!
I feel like stockfish is the type of bot that would see your mistake give you a whole ass explanation and give you tips
At a glance, this low key looks like a Guess the Elo game between two 600s.
"Well good thing white is stockfish" 😂
any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
Excellent video! Love the little story about your life and your adorable dog. 😁
I comment only for the dog
Thats a decent looking wall in the background there
The pawn's just standing there... menacingly!
Just commenting because you asked, really liked this video because of how alien chess AI is to my own thinking. I’m hovering around 1400 after lots of chess with roommates and your videos feeling ok. Would love more content on the list of openings for beginners that you did with Hikaru a while back and how to approach learning the best ones from that list
If you are looking through this game without an engine, it just looks like a game played by 700's
