    Really?! Giving the engines national flags and making Stockfish Norway to subliminally equate it to Magnus while making Komodo the US and representing Hikaru. After he hacked your account you have really been making videos against him. This definitely doesn't have anything to do with what nations developed each engine at all

    Stockfish has some amazing moves, but what blows my mind is the simplicity it can have. The last game, Stockfish plays simple moves. It takes the pawns and defends its pawns. It gets pinned so it moves out by attacking a piece. Simple stuff that I would see as a 900. The difference is that Stockfish understands the danger and realizes there isn’t any (I just see free pawn or attack on queen). The brilliancy is this understanding of the position to play simple chess with no bias. It doesn’t think pawns should defend pieces it just thinks to defend its material however it can.

The overall technique used by the engines of restricting the opponents pieces locally and then shifting the initiative to another sector where they are then materially superior to create further weakness and repeating this until the opponents position is no longer tenable is supremely instructive... Philidor said "Pawns are the soul of chess", I think the engines are demonstrating this clearly.

    It seems like the engines really like to restrict movements because since they can calculate lines perfectly, restricting the opponent movements just lets them calculate further. I would guess that the biggest point of ambiguity in an algorithm is how it prunes which lines to calculate, so I can definitely see how just giving the opponent less choices is better for a computer. We've seen this sort of play before when Gotham covered other chess AI matches. There's less risk that you prune the critical line if there are fewer lines to calculate.

      @sportsjefe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You're thinking of 'book moves' as a set of moves that is understood to be best. The way 'book moves' work in the competition is that there is a group of organizers that want to lay out the starting board for the game, whether it takes 3 or 13 moves. Are there better answers midway through the move chain than the moves the organizers chose? Probably. But it's about putting the engines into difficult situations to work their way out of.

      The top engines nowadays are so strong they will never lose any game against each other from starting position. They will play solid (but rather boring) lines like the berlin and QGD, and every game will be a draw.
