When my dad's dementia started to worsen, he couldn't remember the date, would forget names and would stumble over his words, The drs gave him this cognition test to determine how bad his dementia was at the time. My dad aced it, he not only remembered the 5 words they tell you at the beginning of the test and then make you repeat at the end of it. My dad recited everything they told him to remember at the end of the testing proving that his dementia wasn't as bad as we believe, and that recalling 5 words in a memory test, it's not an intelligence test mind you, is actually not that great of a feat. it's pretty bad and means that Trump is proud at scoring the bare minimum score that states your brain isn't mulch and you can recognize and recall the same thing as a 3-6 year old. If a man who is diagnosed with early onset dementia due to Parkinson's and regularly would forget things like the day, the weekly schedule, etc.can pass this cognition test with flying colors and still be diagnosed with early dementia, think what it must mean when a person (Trump) who is supposed to be healthy and vigorous as a 20 something man scores worse on the same cognition test than the man who has dementia did. What's horrifying is that if trump was one of us and lived in the real world, he would've been committed by now!

I’m in the medical field and it’s a good measure of cognitive function and considered to be the gold standard without extensive and expensive workups. The test is designed to pick up defects like hemispatial neglect via parietal lobe damage with the clock test, and working memory in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus with the word recall. It’s a good test. Don’t try to discredit something that’s been standard in psychological testing with proven results. Your anecdote is a sample size of 1 whereas there are studies where n=>100. Not to mention they’re recently increased the score required to be deemed cognitively competent. Don’t make light of the MoCA
Jay My Blue Advantage Medicaid has annual wellness checks. They do only 3 words. There's the clock, the president, and the date. My late husband could get the date and the president. Drawing the clock was a problem. He would get the hands on the right numbers for the time, but the clock would be misshapen. The numbers would be in order but not evenly spaced. And he could remember only one of the words. Once, we had to draw a rowboat. Being a carpenter, he did okay on that. He had a motorcycle accident in 1969 and was in a coma for 28 days. His left thigh was shattered, as was his left temple (despite the helmet). His family was told he would have to be institutionalized, as he couldn't walk and had no memory. They took him home and started from scratch. He became an industrial millwright, an overhead crane operator, and a darn good carpenter. He died age 68 of a pulmonary embolism.
