I would buy lots of gray if you had it; better than black for prototyping as it’s easier to spot defects, photographs much better, and looks great with most other colors

    Hi there
You mentioned that it's better for you all to sell filament by the 3kg spool.
I might be interested in buying filament in 3kg spools, but I don't know how to manage spools of that size.
If you can give the "every man" solutions for these management concerns, you may be able to increase demand for 3kg spools.
-safely feed a consumer level machine
-how to dry a 3kg spool
-how to keep a 3kg spool dry
-how to prevent a 3kg spool from exploding into a 7 pound mass of spaghetti
-anything else management of 3kg spools outside of a commercial setting
If it makes a difference, I'm starting to look PETG and CF PETG for my base filaments. PLA is quickly turning into the filament for rapid prototyping and making gridfinity bits.
    Thank You

You could have a part in your site that you ask where the filament is going first and then set the price based on their location then just make the shipping cost part of the price you see on the page.

I would love 3KG spools, but my problem is filament dryers - I have my IDEX hooked up to feed straight from two 1KG filament dryers, is there a filament dryer that will hold a 3KG spool? If you partner with some Alibaba factory to make you a half-decent dryer that'll fit those big spools, I think that will drive sales particularly with home gamers who do not actually print 3KG in a short period.
In Cali and burning through a lot of PETG on my own larger home-gamer projects, always looking for cheap PETG that doesn't clog (Currently using Elegoo "Rapid" that I stocked up on with subscribe & save deals). Also WTF is TH-cam deleting any comments talking about products???

In regard to “pricing” for Etsy products, I find your “rule of 3” is one way. Another one which also works is, two times material plus six times direct labor plus maximum shipping costs. This is still a sum of three values, but arrived at differently.

I love the idea of an American company trying to drop filament cost, as you've said in the past "made in America" doesn't really translate for the cost of filament like it does for other consumable industries. I hope this goes well currently I buy mainly Elegoo which is sitting at $13 and rivals the quality of sunlu. Just wish they came in plastic spools for my ams. I will be buying tangled soon. I hope you do better than a company out of country. But this is a valid concern. Especially if the big filament companies go to $10.00 when you are $15.00 plus shipping!

Honestly, as someone who bought one 1k spool.
I wouldn't mind shipping being subsidized and baked in. If it remains transparent on the price of manufactoring the filiment I don't see this as breaking the promise to trying to get to $10 per kilo.
I also think this is the move because when I priced out this filiment it removes another step.
Essentially, instead of having to do another calculation, if you bake it in, it removes the mental headache of doing that same calculation.
So it just simplifies the buying proccess on both sides. I think the little qaulity of life is worth the money considering it's already the ceapest high qaulity filiment.
    In this case IMO qaulity>optimization.

Actually (yes I led with that on purpose) there are several credible studies out now showing that money does, in fact, buy happiness. I refer you to the CBC:
    th-cam.com/video/o9xnLgXJQjs/w-d-xo.html
Otherwise... the list of "things your Grandmother told you" mostly made me feel old, because most of it sounds like Boomer ethics and the Boomers are my *parents*. MY grandmother was born in the 19-teens, and other than the "sleep right and eat well" parts most of that advice isn't what she said. So what this means is that my Gen-Y self is now old enough that the generational advice is a generation later. :(
Although, it does remind me that if my grandmother had been born fifty years later she would've been a Punk, and that makes me happy. :)
