Point the radar center line in the direction of the aircraft you want to lock, and hit the radar button just when the scanning (moving) line is over the dot that is the aircraft you want to lock, it help to actually aim RIGHT of the aircraft you want to lock onto since the radar spins clockwise, otherwise , in first person, aim the radar ABOVE and RIGHT of the target so the target is at the bottom left of your reticle when aiming and you should lock on first try 90% of the time.
Also, disengage lock for barrel rolling aircraft and aim missile at center of spin, the missile over-corrects to minor adjustments so make a smaller circle in their large barrel rolling circle they CANNOT evade if you do this, if you even THINK you are gonna miss, send another one ASAP and catch the when they try to level out to hit you. use the radar for leading supersonics flying perpendicular to you and keep radar on unless absolutely necessary to spot when a atgm heli spawns as the smart ones can kill you within seconds of spawning
always use radar lock when possible, it is your best tool, if used properly, they cannot counter it, even with early warning system, there is NO defense against a smart Tunguska player, the ones that don't take the time to learn its most useful functions have almost no idea exactly how powerful it really is.

Shirghazay Cowboys it doesn’t matter when literally anything gets shot down within 10 seconds of spawning anywhere. even if my f-100, i can spawn and go evasive immediately (towards the deck) and still get shot down flying 500mph+ while maneuvering. 2S6 ruined the game at top tier.
I think people should try using the MBT to counteract the 2S6. Just flank far around with covering fire from other players and just lay into the 2S6 with the 152mm XM150E5. But I haven’t played the MBT yet, so I don’t know if it would work.

I believe having AA like the Tunguska that prevent choppers and planes from reliably spawning is actually a good thing. Gives more of an incentive for players to take out SPAA in order to actually have air superiority.
If choppers want to start spawning in and entering the battlefield safely, they're gonna have to learn how to fly very low to the ground as a chopper realistically would. Jet pilots are going to have to pick up new skills in evasive maneuvers to deal with the relentless assault of anti-air.
The point isn't to avoid being detected on the radar, it's to use the terrain to your advantage. If you're on a flat, mountain-less map, choppers are going to have to snipe from afar using ATGMs/ASMs, or opt to fly a plane or jet instead.
Tunguska in DCS is a nightmare to behold. The missiles don't give off a lock tone when fired at you. So you end up just vaporising mid-flight if you aren't attentive

He not only got slammed by Phly's, if you go frame by frame around 6:06, there's a single frame where you can see he gets hit in the left side of the turret by another missile from someone else. That's the missile that actually hit him hard and made him jolt to the right and made him get hit by that awesome looking shot dead center in the front of the tank.

To the AH-1Z Viper and to the Mil Mi-35, one thing that can help them against these radar threats is Electronic CounterMeasures to maybe reduce the response of the missile to the player's tracking of the missile giving the helicopter some type of "second-chance" ability to continue playing
