MY MAN. Ive been doing it every day for 1 month and my double strokes went from sloppy 130Bpm to Easy 200+ Bpm. Its incredible. Drilling singles and doubles is the most important
Blazer. You must be some sort of a genius, because I’ve been doing it for 2 months now, every single day, and I can barely produce a decent double stroke roll @ 160 bpm
for me 1. Not enough practice 2. Not enough practice 3. Not enough practice 4. Practicing while distracted 5. Not enough practice Thanks for the inspiration this morning Rob, gonna go practice now!
The 20 min double workout that he made is just... I have said it before, it's beautiful, fun and WORTH every minute. Makes practicing a lot less tiresome and tedious (as practicing routines can be).
The 20min doubles workout is a beast as well as getting your hands better in 8 weeks is also a killer must have warm-up routine!! Much love and respect mr beatdown!
The 20 minute double excercise, first of all, my hands used to SUCK, no more. And my dynamics were limited, so it's helped a lot there as well, And my timing👍
I used to do 4800 double strokes about month every day (I still do sometimes, but now I work on your previous exercise with the 3 rudiments). I did the doubles in front of a mirror, so I could see what really happens in my wrists. I used to move my fulcrum a lot (to gain more rebound from a surface, though it wasn't really necessary) and it caused tension. After analysing the technique I've fixed it, developed proper double strokes and improved my dynamics. Thank god I know English well enough to watch your vids. You help me a lot, Rob. You're a great man!
Rob, let me hit you with #RealTalk. This probably came at the right time of my drumming life, but this is far and away, your best lesson. Just about serious and tangible things for us to reach our potential. Just great advice. Also I’ve always wanted to say, that if I could be as relaxed and facile at the spot as you always are, man, my world would be different and I’ll hopefully live to get there. Lastly, I have a comment about your playing, since I just watched 14 minutes of comps 😉 challenge us and maybe yourself too a little, with a discussion on rests and the power when you say less at the kit. This is a big issue for drummers at all levels IMHO, including for sure me. Hope you’re feeling the love man, I don’t know why I feel okay saying it, but I did. ✌🏼
Truth man! While we're dealing with being stuck at home , It's the perfect time for serious shedding and development.. BTW ,The 20 min. workout IS vital! Loose Hands!!!
4800 doubles! Whatever clarity and speed I can claim to have now with the rudiment came directly from that lesson! I do it all the time! Man, the five-minute singlestroke workouts with it. They’re my jam!
Thank you for looking out for me, sir! I have all of these flaws and I've been working hard to correct them. Going back to basics! I've spent too much time just trying to play cool fills from my favorite songs on drums only to stumble through and fail because I'm not proficient enough (just one of many examples of my bad habits). But watching your videos has helped A LOT! Thank you again!
your double stroke thing got me results within a week of doing it everyday... but your flam workout also deserves a mention! I believe it was called the "flam jam" workout or something, but that helped with my dynamics SO much. seriously thank you for all that you've done man.
Never apologize for giving it to us straight. One thing I've learned over the course of nearly 35 years, is, we're all slouching and slacking somewhere. I know for me, the cold hard facts and straight talk and inspiration are what it takes to slap me into shape from time to time. I have nothing but respect for what you do and these amazing videos, and your double stroke roll workout is nothing short of brilliant! Many thanks, man!
cardinaldriver Not nearly as much as you think, man. Less than a minute for the most part. I have a tom tuning tutorial on my channel that shows you exactly how to do it. No drum dials or tune bots necessary 🤘🏽
@@cardinaldriver I noted BeatDown's reply. I have to tell ya... It's definitely legit. I followed his tutorials for all individual types of drums ... ie... snare, kick, toms... all their own separate tutorials. They are spot on and you'll always be complimented on the sound of your drums. That is of course provided your heads are in decent shape and decent quality. Although I've tuned lower level cheaper heads using Rob's techniques and they do not sound bad. I recently went with the newer Evans UV2 heads on my Tama Starclassic Walnut/Birch kit and it sounds incredible. So.... just for what it's worth. Good stuff Bro.
So true I am playing with an Orchestra. Have to know manys the different styles of music and how to do. Not about fills but abound sound true to the music and doing the job.
Amazingly light touched on the snare drum. Something to aspire to! Thanks for providing very welcome drum therapy for all of us in Covid19 self-isolation!
I’ve said this a hundred times while watching your videos but I’ll put it in writing: you’re my hero. If it weren’t for your informative, value packed videos, I wouldn’t have the direction to pick up the drums again after 10 years away due to a car accident injury. Now that I’m healthy again, your videos are lighting the path for my return to self expression through music. Thank you.
Truth!!! You have validated my path, and pointed out areas that I need to give more attention. I used to think practice pads were goofy, but now I love my practice pad, and spend at least 75 to 80% of my practice time using it...I even got an extra snare stand for it...set up and ready to go whenever I'm in front of my computer. I have been working your hand exercises for about 2 months now, and am thrilled with the improvement from sloppy, uneven, and slow, to more precise, even, and around 400% faster! (Speed has been a side effect, not the main goal) I guess I bought my T-shirt a couple of weeks too soon...but ya' know what?...YOU are worth it! Thanks again for doing this...you are a rare and awesome breed Mr. Brown!
I have never touched a drum kit but Ive been into drums , drumming and drummers for years. Your grip and hand position is amazing. Close ups really help to give budding drummers agreat start with the grip AND I've watched two clips and both have had decent humour! :)
You got it Rob! I spent plenty of time with the double stroke workout AND the single stroke workout. I'm almost 68 years old. Ok? Those workouts made a difference, even for ME! You guys out there better go for it! Tellin you!!
I feel you Rob. This is incredibly motivational, much appreciated, and couldn't have come at a better time. All my gigs for the foreseeable future have been cancelled. I am still working out on my pad every day, (and yes, the twenty minute double stroke workout IS a fantastic exercise), but I'm not inspired to set up my kit and play by myself right now. I miss playing with other musicians. My goals and dedication have remained pretty consistent since I started, but I feel like they're being compromised right now. One thing I can at least lay claim to is the amount of diverse music I listen to on a daily basis. Listening has always been as important to me as practicing. Without a vast home music library, I'd probably cave completely right now. I know there's no room for excuses when it comes to drumming, so thanks for the nudge. Maybe you should yell even more next time! Stay well and thanks again.
Using a drum practice pad has helped me quite a bit in my timing control and how I approach my kit and it really helped with my weak hand wasn't really into a practice pad at all until this year and Mr. Beatdown Brown inspired me to this .Thanks
