The Orania Idea is brilliant something that we can all learn from but for those whose saying it's not racist it is. I don't see the people of Orania allowing 5000 blacks even if they highly qualified to be one of them. This will always be wrong, we can't have a world where different cultures and race do not interact with one another. This is where your future Hitlers, your future apartheid Boys, future colonizers, your future racists are born.

What you said is just useless conspiracy theories. The are people in the world who are not mixed with other races,it's only an issue when white people are not mixed..Many people in Africa, asia and arab countries and including in SA itself are living in their own spaces and no one make a fuss about that, it's problem only when white people do it, and I'm not even white.

Look at all the "diversity of cultures" that many western countries in Europe and US have, what good has come outof it? None! You have racial tensions, animosity and hate in those countries. People of same race who share same culture and beliefs result in more healthy and peaceful communities than what we see in western countries. Anti white racism is on the rise and is a norm as result of the cultures you said must be mixed. Your views are not based on reality, and white people living on their own not bothering others I don't know how is that a bad thing, wether it's racist or not..

This place is known because of "white." The most interesting thing about it: people moved to remote desert and built the life they wanted instead of crying, complaining, being miserable about government. They planning, government, ability to foresee and tackle difficulties are amazing too.

Keep in mind blacks in the US have tried many times to make their own separate society. If never works because they do not do the labor and I am sorry but they don't have the intellect for self sustainability without donations online etc.
You look at Liberia, a colony of blacks given by the US after the Civil War so blacks could have their own land and laws. The first thing they did was use white technology via guns and ammo to enslave the neighboring tribes, after which they sold the metal and iron and everything else for food, Instead of growing their own food. They where given everything including food, guns, ammo, animals for breeding and built houses.
They took this and enslaved their own people, sold everything for food instead of growing food, and now they eat literal LITERAL mudcookies and eat off the good nature of foreign aid.
There is more at play here than just "apartheid" or slavery. This is at a genetic level.

They have utterly rejected the Orania policy of apartheid enforced by the old neo nazi afrikaner regime of yesteryear. These majority afrikaners don't fall for the ideal of preserving apartheid under the guise of " culture" - it's clearly utter tosh. These two thousand residents of Orania are simply white supremacists and have been drawn of the residual old neo nazis of the Hendrik Verwoerd father of apartheid outfit. Afrikaans, a

Great insights. There is a huge misconception out there that Orania is a racist community where white people can go and live. Nothing can be further from the truth. I am as white as the driven snow and grew up during the apartheid era, am a paying member of the "Orania Beweging", yet I CANNOT live there. For the simple reason that I am agnostic. Religion is one of their pillars and I have absolutely no issue with that. I support them not because they are white or Christian but because I believe that what they are doing is done with respect and is sustainable. I respect your opinion but you seem to be very selective in what you read and understand. As I mentioned, I am not allowed to stay there because of my religious beliefs (or lack thereof) and not because of the color of my skin. Sure you can argue that their rules are cleverly crafted to exclude certain segments of society but I believe it is done not merely to exclude but to ensure growth and stability. The white Afrikaner is traditionally a Christian and it is very rare to find them engaging in 'destructive' behavior such as striking and violent demonstrations. This means that they solve the issue from the place where the issue exists. They do not break down first in the hopes of rebuilding at enormous cost. And while they may not acknowledge it I believe this is the crux of their 'selection' process.

This was a fascinating video, so thanks for taking the time to put it together, and also thanks for the time commitment in visiting the community (which is pretty much in the middle of nowhere). At the end of the day, the South African constitution guarantees the right to self determination. So I do not really have a problem with the Afrikaner minority group establishing their own settlement. Furthermore, they basically just want to be left alone, which I do not consider an unreasonable request either.

I really wish some of the black ethnic groups can also start establishing successful, independent communities like this. With the ZA government failing the people of the country, I think this is the future of the country.
BTW, I am an Afrikaner myself. I’m not sure I’d want to live in Orania myself as I like experiencing different cultures (I’ve been living in Asia for 10+ years), but I have a lot of respect for these people taking matters into their own hands and not waiting for handouts

There is a very specific narrative that is told and believed about my people. I do not live in Orania myself, but I have heard about what's happening there. As an Afrikaaner my heart sinks a little every time I click on a video like this. That is because whenever someone from another country makes a video about my people, there's always this sense of "so this is what's up with 'these people' but because way back when..." insert whatever justification you need. At least, I apparently have a knack for only finding videos like that.

While I applaud the goals and values of Orania IN THEORY, it does not work IN PRACTICE. And Orania is not REALLY self sufficient and they ARE racist, whether they want to admit it or not. I'm appalled that the guy named Joost keeps saying that "Apartheid was/is not sustainable" but says nothing about the horrific crime against humanity that it was! The very first example of them not really being self sufficient is shown at the beginning of the video: they rely on a black courier to deliver packages from the outside world for them. How is that being 100% self sufficient? "No man is an island." The only way that South Africa can prosper is if we all put our differences aside and come together to work towards one goal. Unfortunately human nature means that there will always be divisions, whether it's racial, cultural or something else. By the way, I'm an atheist, so I immediately fail one of the entry tests of Orania; something for which I'm grateful, as I have no desire to associate myself with such a racist town. I do agree that the MODEL of the town can be applied on local levels in certain areas, but you cannot rule South Africa with Orania's ACTUAL principle/value which they don't say out loud, i.e. "separate, but equal", which was exactly the slogan for segregation and Apartheid.

They were apparently mostly the offspring of Afrikaner farmers and their servants, who were originally imported from eastern countries. There are apparently many words in Afrikaans that came directly from eastern languages. I can guarantee you if a white politician in South Africa makes some small racial remark or mistake, there will be blood on the streets. Unlike how no one riots when ANC provides us terrible service...
No Afrikaans/white person can even fight back the government, I was born a few years past apartheid as a white man. I have no concept of what even has been done or what the country even looked like in its prime. I just grew up in a developing town, in a household, where my dad had to work through poverty 12h - 16h a day and sometimes through weekends, just so I could see a future. Even after hard work getting 70%+ average on my subjects, for some reason I couldn't get into UCT.
So I went to CPUT instead. I had to study through riots, people disrespecting lecturers regardless of race and them burning an e-center across the street where I lived. I tried my best not to fail a single year, because I couldn't afford it. Even after studying, trying to get a job was hard because of BBBEE, it gets very competitive when there are only a certain amount of available positions. Which is why I can't play around or complain, only do my best and learn as much as I can. So I joined a startup company to learn how to build my own company/NPO. With my boss I had to learn how to build and helped build that startup from the ground up. It went from 5 people to 50 in 5 years.
I'm very grateful for that experience.
All I know is, best thing the Afrikaners can do, is do what they have always done, take things as it comes and build yourself out of a bad situation. I can't do or say anything about what some other random old white people did, but at the same time I grew up here, this is my home.

No division, no one is better than the other, helping each other grow, following basic rules etc really makes the world seem crazier than what they are. A little peaceful haven... Isn't this how it should be?! Governments think they own the lands and people and forget that they are put there for service and the wellbeing of the people that put them there. There should be no poverty, no crime, equality, people helping each other in any way of contribution and just stick to any rules that's to the benefit of everyone.

And as you probably know yourself, Afrikaans speakers used to say they were speaking Dutch when they were speaking the exact same language that is spoken now. All that changed is the name of whats spoken.
The problem with calling any dialect part of a wider continuum is that it sounds like youre diminishing the tongue in comparison to the 'proper' standard language.
Given the way the Dutch turned their backs on the Afrikaners last century I understand the lack of interest in associating with us, but I hope that gap can be mended. Our language differs from dutch quite a bit, our vocabulary has changed a lot, and we have words that never featured in Dutch.
If Flemish is Dutch, then why do Flemish tv programs have Ditch subtitles?
I have been to both Belgium, and Holland, worked in Holland for some time as well, and have worked with both Dutch and Flemish citizens, and yet, when conversing with the Dutch, I have to speak in English, for both our sakes, but with the Belgians, I understand them when they communicate in Flemish, and visa versa, when I communicate in Afrikaans.
Added to the above, we adopted a lot of German words, and their sintext, and for added flair, the double French negative.
You are correct on one aspect though, we want nothing to do with the Dutch. We don't hate you, we don't look down on you, or despise you, but language similarity does not bind us.

I dont think any Flemish person denies Flemish is Dutch, just not necesarily Standard Dutch
The distinction here is that there is a 'broader' description at play here. Flemish dialects, like all Dutch dialects (they also exist in the NL and are subtitled), are clearly distinct and unique from Standard Dutch, but fall under the wider umbrella of 'Dutch'. Standard Dutch is NOT the same as Dutch in this case. Although most Flemish TV is also in unsubtitled Standard Dutch (or tussentaal)
My personal experience with spoken Afrikaans is that it's perfectly intelligible, but sadly most Dutch people don't bother trying to understand even when it comes to local dialects.
But classifying Afrikaans as a separate language is fine. It's all arbitrary anyways. Dutch for example has a dialect continuum with German and we even used to call our language Duitsch until two centuries ago. A language is a dialect with a state.
And as far as cultural sentiment goes, yeah I recognise the (mutual) apathy. Which is simply a very big pity, considering how extremely different things were merely a century ago.

You do have your own such towns. Transkei for example. My question to you is.. Who is making those such towns work? Nobody.. They are in such a mess. The crime & poverty & dirt is horrendous.. Its really sad to drive through these places 😢 All of these places were run by white people & white farmers whom have now either been murdered or forced to leave. Its a shame & a total disgrace 🤷‍♀️

    • @Chrisjan0.7
      @Chrisjan0.7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

The Ora is just a coupon system connected 1:1 with the South African Rand. Trade is somewhat similar to other towns and their surrounding communities. If you do want to open shop or work in the town there is a process but anyone can make use of their services and products such as the ambulance that often helps out the surrounding areas or shopping for groceries.
