    B&C wasn't "ruined". It's the vocal minority of purists who spent 2 years desperately trying to shape perception & sabotaging a good show for not making their sports team come off as flawless heroes & the other team as irredeemable disney villains. Yet to see a single casual reactor who was not moved. Without the book baggage this would be considered brilliant. Like Daemon mentions how Aemond is a great fighter & smirks when asked what happens if they can't find Aemond. It was obv he knew it was an impossible mission. It seems like a lot of fans can't even catch a simple subtext unless it's dumbed down & bluntly spoonfed. Some of the best parts of this ep were the political intrigue, underscoring logistics of war, the economics of blockade. Everyone paranoid & trying to sway the king. Otto & Alicent on one side but not quite together as Alicent keeps being undermined by the men in her life. Larys on the other side. Aemond & Criston on another side. These subtle political machinations are things D&D can't even dream of doing. The "farewell to peace" parallel with Rhaenyra at the funeral & Alicent at the Sept was another poignant moment.
    As for B&C, HOTD just plays these moments differently to GOT. Less about shock, more about creeping unease. Part of watching GoT was about watching other people reacting in horror, surprise, etc. With HOTD I don't feel the pull to watch people shouting at the screen because it would only feel forced. HOTD had so many moments in S1 where it could have gone for a sharp stab a la GoT but instead made sure to play things out slowly. It's less interested in displays of brutality & more interested in the impact on the bigger picture. GoT (& Breaking Bad) was about dramatic moments. Hotd (& Better Call Saul) is more about everything around those moments & plays them out in a way that feels slower, less brutal & more bleak & dread. GoT had so many moments where it stabbed, even if you saw the knife coming. HOTD is more interested in digging its nails & slowly pulling a wound open.
    All these "bring back D&D" posts just makes me know that a lot of so-called purists didn't hate GoT's cheap, gawdy, shock value spectacle writing, what they hated was their self-insert (Dany, Jon or Stannis) not sitting the throne. I LOVED the restraint on B&C. This was peak bleak, dread soaked gothic horror. The creeping horror of the haunting soundtrack with the cutting & sawing noises. The "emotional impact" the MCU brain wanted was heavy-handed head chopping gratuitous violence. But unsettling silent terror will always be more disturbing than gory theatrics & bright Bridgerton colors that some fans complain about! The book's B&C is an overly sadistic creative writing exercise of cartoon villains (makes sense considering it's made by fictional 'historians'). The extended psychological torment of Helaena strains credibility as B&C had no personal vendetta against her & were risking their own skin playing games in the Red Keep during a war. The show exchanges gore for dread, presents it as a straightforward hit, with the grim realism underscoring the urgency & perilous stakes B&C was in. The banality of evil instead of a Machiavellian plot makes it scarier.
    It's easy to write a woman screaming & throwing up. But the brutally real pain, terror & despair Phia managed using only her eyes is more impactful. Helaena's freeze frame reaction was on point with her cassandra character & it was devastating. The total silence surrounding b&c & its aftermath made it even more jarring. Ofc Helaena called Jaehaerys “the boy”as she was traumatized & mimicking the speech of b&c. Her offering the necklace was brilliantly upsetting & endearing cause it shows she was too sheltered to realize what b&c wanted. But then you can pinpoint the exact moment when the switch goes off. It's like she has this moment of realization about what she prolly already foresaw. A look of quiet panic & resignation sets in. You can clearly see her dissociating. she didn't even realize that she got down the stairs. The first place her feet takes her is her mother's room for comfort. To wake her up from a nightmare which was alas too real.

  • @crystalk98
    @crystalk98 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +31

    Helaena had to give up her son because if she tried to trick them, they'd have killed her and both kids....Cheese threatened as much with the knife to her throat...

      @@stevemarshall3508 I get you, but Alicent is right (mostly). The real war hadn't started before Lucerys death. It was only the War of Ravens or whatever its called - each side searching for who their allies are. It seems that the Green Council's plans were to bring the entire realm or the majority to their side, just enough to over power the Black Council so much that fighting a war would be a suicide mission. When Aemond drew first blood (his intentions do not matter), the war of ravens ended and the real war began. Therefore, Aemond holds some responsibility for the Dance.

    I have a hard time understanding how Alicent doesnt get more sympathy. She has been a victim the entire series, more so than anyone else. She is a widow now, throughout history, widows have had more leniency in cultural norms because they have served their time. She was a great wife and did her duties to Viserys. Now she is her own woman and can bang whomever she chooses. Daemon is all about Daemon, he is a monster. He thrives in chaos and war is the most chaos there is, so he wants constant war. Helaena knew the son was dying no matter what, she had already sewn her funeral veil, all she could do was save herself and the other kid. I think the necklace is going to play a big role in identifying the killer. That is why she offered it, when they find a guy with that necklace, he is identified.

Neither approach - neglecting a kid or spoiling one - is a good idea, particularly when the child in question is positioned to have great power as an adult. (Rhaenyra also spoiled at least her two oldest sons) But there was still a chance that little Jaehaerys, who was only four years old, could have been better educated later to overcome his father's foolishness. You set your gigantic war-dragon on a younger kid and his juvenile dragon, to pursue and attack them, and then your dragon kills them after the little dragon tries to defend himself and his rider the only way he knew how, and obviously you are responsible. It would be second-degree or first-degree murder in the modern America, I think, if some young hothead with a cranky ex-military dog set his dog to harass a younger boy with his Cairn Terrier puppy and the puppy nipped at the bigger dog's leg and the big dog pulled loose of his leash and attacked the boy and the pup and killed them, excuses of "I didn't mean to kill him' wouldn't go very far.

    For me, I waited 2 years and even I had to loll😭
    Forgetting/mixing up just a few important details about the blacks and greens.
    Sophie's right about how even after Viserys' is death, remember in SZN 1, the greens were already plotting to put Aegon on the throne AND assassiate Rhaenyra💀, but Alicent refused this plan and sent a letter instead. Team black were NEVER going to attack, because the 2 old friends both didnt want that. BUT, right before any type of peace could be made, Team Green *indirectly* killed Lucerys. Yes, it was an unfortunate, but provoked, accident. However, its still ALL their (greens) faults combined lol.
    So Daemon now thinks they indirectly killed his brother Viserys, and his step child. He is rightfully MADDD. They've also unleashed the beast that is Daemon Targaryen.😵 His wrath has officially begun

    I’m team green but i like some team black members. I just feel like Rhaenyra should’ve been smarter. She blamed Alicent for marrying Viserys and treated her like shit for a year, just to plead on their friendship when deceiving her about having sex. She knew her claim to the throne would be challenged but continued to have multiple bastards & move to dragonstone. The whole situation at Driftmark was the catalyst of the Dance & showed Alicent that Otto was right all along. Her children would always be in danger or put on the back burner when it comes to Rhaenyra & her lies. I don’t think Lucerys deserved to die but him maiming Aemond & not facing consequences drew the line in the sand.

    • @Chasingdreams25
      @Chasingdreams25 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      - She blamed Alicent for marrying Viserys as she should, and she didn't treat her like trash (you can't even back this up with a scene) she ignored her, again, as she should.
      - Rhaenyra doesn't owe Alicent anything (especially her sexual life) yk since a certain friend was visiting her best friend's newly widowed father in the middle of the night to seduce him and now that said friend didn't just seduce but succeeded in it and became her best friend's stepmother 🤢
      - Rhaenyra kept having children because it was her duty to have more children to secure her line the same way Viserys and Aemma kept trying for more children and by the way
      Rhaenyra had bastard children because her dumbass father fell for the seduction of Alicent Hightower and chose her over Laena Velaryon which ruined his relationship with Corlys so he used his daughter and married her off to her (very well known) gay cousin to redeem himself with Corlys.
      - Dragonstone is the seat of the heir, so what's the point of bringing this up especially since she only did that because Alicunt and Crispy were throwing shade at her and her children at any chance they got.
      - Did Aemond get punished for hitting Jace? (Rhaenyra's heir)
      Did he get punished for disrespecting the Velaryons inside their house? Did he get punished for breaking Luke's nose? Did he get punished for beating up the girls? Did he get punished for calling them bastards? Did Aegon? Did Alicent for hinting at it multiple times? Did any of the greens lost their tongue for calling the boys bastards? Did Alicent get punished for attacking the heir? Did Crispin get punished for sleeping with Rhaenyra? Did he get punished for killing a noble? Did he get punished for hitting Laenor (the heir's prince council at that time)?? Did Aegon get punished for graping and harassing female servants? Did he get the same treatment as Rhaenyra for having bastards roaming freely in Fleabottom?
      The answer is NO
      The greens keep getting with shit unpunished but but but Aemond's eye 🥹

    It good to see Winterfell again. So far, we see a conflict within both sides after the Aftermath of season 10 with Lucery death. Jace trying to get support from the North. The Black's as Rhaenyra is grieving. Daemon want to go to war with them. As he and Rhaenya disagree on how their approach against Team Green. On the Green's we see how Aegon is as the king. As their is a conflict between him and his grandfather Otto on how to run things. As Larys Strong notice as he sowed seeds into Aegon. As Helena warns Aegon, concern should be the rats (spies) and not the black's. I'm surprised that Aegon show love for his son despite not disciplining them. But I guess Aegon showing love to his son is something he never got from his,father.
    First Sir Cirston hated being Rhaenyra sex toy, but now he's Alicent damn I didn't see that one coming. I think Otto knows with the way he looked as Alicent and Cirston Cole enter the room. Alicent feeling not appreciated as she part of the table of men. As she feel Aemond and Aegon don't listen to her. Especially after she expressed disappointment in Aemond for causing this war.
    I love the Velaryon theme song. I feel bad for Rhaenyra after seeing the remains of Lucery dragon Arrax which was confirm by the Black Ravens. In which resulted in her wanting Aemond dead. As Daemon leaves to go to Kings landing where he finds two men Cheese and Blood who he knew through talks with the White Worm. As he paid him to assassinate Aemond. I just feel bad that Cheese and Blood decided to kill Jaehaery. But anyway I hope you two have a wonderful day. Stay safe, take care and stay amazing Mair and Sophie.

That is, foresight on future chapters, but these chapters cannot be changed. I can't imagine the torment she feels. This is why, I think, she was so calm and accepting, for want of a better word with Cheese and Blood. She knew it was going to happen and thought nothing could be done about it.

    Daemon blaming Rhaenys is flawed logic. I said it last season and I'll say it again, Luke's death was Rhaenrya's fault PERIOD. She should have sent a raven to Storm's End. She would have gotten one of three responses from Lord Baratheon: 1. "I'm holding to the oath my father took & I recognize you as queen." OR 2. "You were named before there was a male heir and the report is that it was King Viserys' dying wish to have Aegon be the heir, so my father's oath is null & void. I'm Team Green." OR 3. "You look like you need some help to hold onto your crown there, missy. Team Green promised to have Prince Aemond marry one of my daughters. Make me an offer." There was ABSOLUTELY no need to risk her son AND a dragon, two valuable pieces. She gave the order, it's on her.

YES. He is a prince who isn't married and Lord Baratheon has unwed daughters. Does he has an axe to grind when it comes to Luke? YES.
      A Queen HAS to account for that. And unless my memory fails me, Lord Baratheon asked Luke what offer he came with, which means he was most likely on the fence and wanted to choose the side he profit the most from.
      As far as Luke not being detained, the world of GoT is based on real history and even within the world GGRM made, ASOIAF, there are traitors, backstabbers & oathbreakers. There are people who did things other people didn't expect them to do. Lord Baratheon might have been loyal initially but he might have realized which way the wind was blowing ( a male heir is more acceptable to the people ) and decided to switch sides.

    Well, they ruined Blood&Cheese all right, could have been one of TV history's most haunting moments, another Red Wedding, but instead the show's version was a complete let down, rushed and underwhelming to say the least. If only they adapted the book's version which was perfection!!!! In the book Daemon gave the order to murder Aegon's heir not Aemond, a son for a son he said. It wasn't a mission gone wrong, typical Daemon didn't give a rat's ass about the babies, in the book Viserys adored his grandchildren and used to tell them stories of ancient Valyria.😥Blood and Cheese sneaked into Alicent's room through the secret passageways Rhaenyra used to get out of the Red Keep in the first season, they gagged Alicent and waited. When Helaena arrived with her three babies, Blood killed her guard before proceeding to grab her eldest son, Prince Jaehaerys, while Cheese took hold of her younger son, Prince Maelor. Then she was asked on which of her sons she wanted them to kill, the queen pleaded with them to kill her instead, which was turned down and Blood reminded her that it has to be a son, warned Helaena that she and her children would die if she screamed. They threatened they would rape her baby daughter if she didn't make a choice soon. When she was once again forced to make the impossible choice under the threat that all of her children will be killed, the queen tearfully chose Maelor, the youngest son, she believed that Maelor was too young to understand. Seeing that she had chosen Maelor, Cheese whispered into the boy's ear, mockingly saying, "You hear that, little boy? Your momma wants you dead." Instead they decapitaded Jaehearys to Helaena's horror, and she began to scream. This is by far the superior Blood&Cheese version. In the show the guards had vanished, made no sense, kicking the dog was more impactful and Alicent humping Cole at the end took away from Haelena's tragedy, people were laughing. Idk, and it's not like the book readers anticipated to witness the beheading of a baby, it's just that GRRMs version of a mother's impossible choice would have made for great drama, a lost opportunity indeed I might add.

As I said they didn't need to show us the gore, just more of Helaena's struggle and present it in a believable way more faithful to the superior book version. Wouldn't blame Phia's acting either, cause she did great, so what if Helaena was special, she could still react to what was happening to her and her babies, but people were not affected by the show's version as they should have. The show's Blood&Cheese did not deliver, they downplayed the whole story which lasted only a few minutes, they should have kept the audience at the edge of their seat. But as GRRM said himself in a recent interview and suspiciously just before the HOTD S2 premiere, show runners always think they can do better than the source material, although George would't speak directly against the changes made to his work cause he would't bite the hand that feeds him.
You can see her dissociating. she didn't even realize that she got down the stairs. The first place her feet takes her is her mother's room for comfort. To wake her up from a nightmare which was alas too real.
