    This is NOT me defending the harassment of Fabien Frankel, because that's unacceptable.
    The hate thrown his way isn't simply just because of the A/Erryk situation. It's the whole of his actions leading up to that as well. Criston basically spat at Rhaenyra when she suggested the EXACT situation he has going on with Alicent. His hypocrisy is maddening. That, added with the allowance of Jaehaerys' murder by being in bed with Alicent, then chastising Arryk for "sullying" his white cloak when he's been doing that by breaking his chastity vow over and over and murdering innocent men left and right, his projection on Arryk was the height of hypocrisy. He sent an innocent man to his death. A death that made brother killed brother.
    But again, those are the actions of Criston Cole NOT Fabien Frankel. So stop harassing him you weirdos.

      The fact is, people should be praising Fabien Frankel's acting abilities since he plays Criston Cole so well that people hate the character so much. It's just weird to me that people can't separate the actor from the character. More people should watch the interviews with the actors so they can put that distance in their minds.

    The final dialogue about The song of ice and fire is the profecy that passes from heir to heir, Viserys told the profecy to Rhaenyra when he named her heir to the throne and never told it to neither Daemon (hence why when Rhaenyra told him about it last season he chokes her and she laughs, because in reality he was never considered to be named heir, Viserys never told him this) and Aegon nor Alicent, so when Rhaenyra hears the exact words and Alicent is confused she realizes her father never regretted his decision and becomes aware that the throne is hers and she has been robed of it by this confusion. To me this part was really important because she was considering that her father did change his mind about her and perhaps she might surrender, but then that's not it and she knows that the only way to claim what's hers is war :( sad but necessary, because the greens are not going to stand back now.

    5:00 You're not wrong because it's a good assumption on her part, but what's really interesting is that the bond should mean that Seasmoke _knows_ Laenor isn't really dead, which would beg the question of why is he really bothered... Also, since in the book we don't know for sure what happened to Laenor, Seasmoke's behavior really is a mystery at this point.

    • @Skye_Writer
      @Skye_Writer 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      It's also important to point out that what we absolutely know and don't know about the way the bonds work isn't 100% clear. The fact that Laenor has been gone for all these years (at least 3 years) could be the issue; maybe Seasmoke expected him to come back, or maybe he has been close enough by that it didn't matter. But if he has gone further into Essos and didn't just settle in Pentos somewhere, right across the Narrow Sea, then the bond may be fainter.
      Or maybe he is CLOSER to home now, and Seasmoke senses him, but hasn't been able to find him.
      There is a lot George has NOT explained about that magic.

    there’s really nothing alicent can do to stop the war from happening. which is so tragic bc at the dinner scene with viserys she said rhaenyra would make a fine queen one day. also, that throne was 100% getting usurped by otto the moment viserys died like…he’d been scheming since the day rhaenyra got named the heir.

    • @douglas2938
      @douglas2938 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      "Usurped" might be a little too much there. He's always wanted to wield power but even he could never have planned for Viserys to not have a male child nor Aemma's death, which was the only way he could get Alicent there. That opportunity presented itself but otherwise he probably would have been content being the Hand of whoever followed. That's what makes it a twisted just deserts that he got fired twice after putting in so much work just to stay there.

    • @Skye_Writer
      @Skye_Writer 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +9

      @@douglas2938 No, "usurped" IS the correct word. When Alicent tells the council about what she believes is Viserys' last wish, she finds out that Otto and the council had been planning to take the throne for Aegon anyway, it's just now they have a better story. If Viserys changed his mind before he died, then it isn't usurpation after all, which makes them all very happy. AND, not only was he planning to take the throne anyway, but on top of that he commands the lord commander of the Kingsguard to go to Dragonstone and kill Rhaenyra, Daemon, and all their children before anyone can be told Viserys is dead. The lord commander refuses and resigns on the spot, then he and Erryk flee the Red Keep (after Erryk steals Viserys' crown back).
      The thing is, the war was always going to happen, no matter what Alicent heard that night, because Otto already had a plan in place. Go back and watch episode 9 and you will see that.

    To answer Adams question on Velaryian steel, how items are forged is a mystery as it's secrets were lost when Velyria was destroyed, so it's impossible to forge anything new, you can reforge a Velaryian steel sword but its a very hard process, it is thought that magic and dragons fire were used but that can't be confirmed, what is known is it's very strong but light, and in the case of bladed weapons the blade will remain sharp forever, it's also very expensive, Many of the Noble houses have a Velaryian steel weapon mostly swords that get passed down the family line.

      I like how it's pulled from real world history. Specifically, Damascus steel. We can approximate it and recreate the look with modern tech but we have no idea how they did it. It was stronger than anything else at the time and the swords wouldnt dull

    It’s not a spoiler to answer your question about witches. The answer would be. In the game of thrones universe magic, in all forms, is very *very* real. Anything else gets into spoiler territory so hopefully that satisfies your curiosity on that point for now!
    (I know people are getting on you guys for these reviews. But as someone who has read all the books, watched all the shows, and deeply loves this universe, to me it’s interesting to see you being introduced to it. It provides a very different perspective and I hope you consider also reacting to the original Game of Thrones show at some point!)

    The next episode is called Dance of Dragons so I think we’ll finally see dragons fighting. Good call about Seasmoke being lonely without a rider - however the show is different from the book in that Laenor (Seasmoke’s rider) is actually dead so Seasmoke would be free to find another rider. In the show they softened it up so as not to besmirch Rhaenyra by letting Laenor live and have a happy ending. His dragon should still be bonded to him even from afar and would most likely go find him.

    The Song of Ice and Fire, if you’ll recall is etched into the blade that Aegon II carries with him. They have no idea (the Greens) of any of this. Because it is only passed down to the person who will inherit the throne. It was in season one I think episode one or two.
    That blade appears in GOT .

    The Targaryen and Velaryon families are the two great houses that both originate from Ancient Valyria and came over to Westeros with Aegon the Conqueror many generations ago after the fall of Valyria. This connection with the ancient homeland of the dragons is why Velaryons are the only other family that can bond with dragons and why their house is so close with the Targeryons.
    As for Valyrian steel, think of it like Mythril. It is an ancient smithing technique from Ancient Valyria that has been lost to ages. It is the strongest manufactured material known to man. Despite no one being able to create it anymore, there are a handful of master smiths that are able to rework existing Valyrian steel into new forms. You see this more on the OG GOT, where there is a Valyrian steel great sword that is melted down and reforged into two new swords.

    There is no place anywhere and at any time to wish harm to a person/actor for a role they are playing. If they are doing such a great job as portraying someone that you can hate what you should do is wish them well for doing a fantastic job of portraying somebody who is so vile. But don’t threaten an actual human being doing a job because you don’t like the character he’s doing exactly what he’s being paid to do make the character the most hated thing on television.

  • @gchicago9
    @gchicago9 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

    ok this is a longass comment so get ready
    its not that erryk and arryk were beloved, people are just annoyed criston caused their deaths by acting like he wasnt fucking alicent down the hall instead of doing his job. he pretended arryk was suspicious to avoid acknowledging that its his fault. the character is always going around trying to make other people feel small just because he feels small, and he only feels small because he was stupid enough to think rhaenyra would run away with him. his whole hate for her is based entirely on his actions but he blames her. he is a very pathetic man who refuses to acknowledge his own flaws. add in psychotic people who cant separate actor from character, and you get threats on social media.
    the hate for aemond is funny to me because i like aemond the most. specifically because hes such a little weirdo. hes like an anime character lmao its so cartoonish, I LOVE IT. i find it entertaining the same way a fast and furious movie is entertaining. it tickles that dumb 10 year old boy part of your brain that never fully goes away and loves excessively stylized things
    daemon's second wife was corlys and rhaenys daughter who died trying to give birth. he has two children from her. rhaenyra was married to corlys and rhaenys son, and had 3 illegitimate children during that marriage. then rhaenyra and daemon had two more children when they married each other, plus one that died at birth. one of rhaenyras sons died when aemond attacked on his dragon, so between daemon and rhaenyra they have 6 children remaining. the two she had with daemon are the two youngest, and those are the two she sent away with daemon's other daughter, along with her youngest child from her second marriage.
    valyrian steel is supposed to be like beskar, yes. lightweight and incredibly durable, the weapons stay sharp for centuries. valyria is an empire that was destroyed by some unspecified distaster, before the events of either show. they had metalworking processes that were secret and involved magic in some way, so when their civilization was gone, the knowledge of how to forge the steel was lost. george rr martin prefers magic systems that arent super defined/clearly understood in universe, and are more creepy and sacrificial and bloody and inconsistent and weird, so there arent like easily found spellbooks and shit. a big status symbol for houses in westeros is having valyrian steel weapons or armor that they pass down, because theyre literally priceless, since they cant be replicated anymore. best you can hope for is to maybe melt one down and reshape it but its extremely hard to find someone who can even manage that.
    the targaryens are one of only a couple families that left valyria before it was destroyed. the velaryons are another. the targaryens actually left valyria because one of them had a vision that valyria was going to be destroyed. the story rhaenyras father was saying on his deathbed was another vision/dream by another targaryen, and thats probably why it wasnt recorded more officially. maybe they thought if it was more well known, thered be some self fulfilling prophecy stuff going on? idk.
    alicent was just acknowledging that even if they told everyone it was all a misunderstanding, it wouldnt matter at this point. theyre both surrounded by bloodthirsty people with longstanding grudges, as mentioned by rhaenys at the start of the episode. alicent has no real authority, and things are already in motion because of the actual murders/attempted murders that have been done.
    the thing with the dragons behavior is that there is a bond between the dragon and whoever is currently its rider. they respond to how the rider feels, but are also living weapons of mass destruction that cant be fully controlled. thats why aemond couldnt call off his dragon when he was chasing luke. even if he just meant to scare him, there is still real anger in aemond about losing his eye, and the way that they (including his brother, as seen in this episode) used to tease him for being such a little weirdo as a kid, and the dragon responded to that anger. the dragons are on edge because the people theyre bonded with are on edge. as an aside, this is part of why i dont mind aemond too much. he lost his eye because daemons daughters felt he stole their mothers dragon, but it doesnt work like that. they dont get passed down through families. then they fought him 4v1 and pulled out a knife...he wasnt blameless in that interaction because he did antagonize them by calling rhaenyras sons bastards, but i would say he was more justified than they were.
