  • This Dirty Loops reaction is genuinely my first time ever hearing this band or their song "Follow The Light". I'm not sure who Cory Wong is or their relationship to Dirty Loops but whoever the hell was in this video playing these instruments they were all absolutely incredible. What an almighty funky song Follow The Light proved to be, and what a terrific group of musicians. Amazing.
    0:00 Intro

    4:37 Summary
    When I do my reaction videos I don't press pause because I don't want to interrupt the natural flow of the music as it was originally intended by the artist. I try to vocalise my thoughts in real time as I listen to the song, and then summarise my reaction afterwards.
    You can checkout ‪@dirtyloops‬ 's original track without my commentary here: • Dirty Loops & Cory Won...
    Please do recommend songs or other artists for me to checkout in future by commenting on this video! I'm constantly on the lookout for great new music and things I've never heard before.

    I've been a professional drummer for 46 years. I've played ALL styles of music both live and in the studio. But I have to say that in all of my musical life, in all the bands I've been blessed to play and collaborate with, this "Follow the Light" track has just completely blown me away. The amazing "pocket" that these folks were able to establish is like NOTHING I've ever experienced. Especially given the fact that I understand that they didn't even record this video in the same studio with each other. Dirty Loops was home in Sweden, and Cory Wong (who plays with such funky precision) was in Minneapolis with his horns. They are all completely outstanding musicians, but that BASS!! THE BASS!! I hope he was standing near a bucket because the FUNK was just dripping off his hands. The triplet-slaps at the end of some of his phrases slayed me. His solo was on another planet. Him and the drummer (I've seen his solo in "Work Shit Out" and he's completely GOLDEN) are joined at the hip! I've watched this video about 11 times, and it drains me each time. MASTERPIECE!

    Your comparison between Dirty Loops and Snarky Puppy was so on the money. Both are full of virtuosity, but Dirty Loops ALWAYS brings the musicality! Now that you've found Dirty Loops, have a great time going through one of the most amazing catalogs of songs EVER!!! Subscribing based on this reaction. No matter what song, be it cover or original, these 3 Swedish lads (& whomever they choose to join forces with) light you up & this one is particularly catchy. And if you listen to them every day, you stay lit up! Any song, & you will hear something that makes you smile, groove, or raise your eyebrows skyward & exclaim, "WHAT WAS THAT?!" Even on a beautiful ballad type song, your soul whispers to your ear, "WHAT WAS THAT?!" Others have made good suggestions. There is no bad pick. Welcome to Dirty Loops.

    Henrik's bass is handmade by Mattisson Bass and they make a Henrik Linder signature series. It's got one of the most beautiful bass sounds I've heard (in the hands of a very skilled musician, which I'm not) and cost about USD $15k. Henrik allegedly plays his bass 5-6 hours a day.

    You said "it's locking my soul up" and I FELT THAT! Because that what this song does to you. Puts you in a chokehold. Cory Wong (guitarist) and the horn section are complete monsters on their own. Like...they don't play no games AT ALL. Check out their Paisley Park album recording. And Dirty Loops are legit my favorite band right now. Specifically the bassist. He's not human and I'm convinced there's nothing he can't do. The two bands have several more videos from their collaboration album you should check out ('Turbo', 'Ring of Saturn', and their cover of 'Thriller'). Ahhh friend great bloody reaction. A reaction like this -to me-is as good as they get. Honest, great shared enjoyment and wonderful comments. I will let you know that Dirty Loops are not the biggest band in the world but it's fans are loyal and adoring...that is to say you have just opened a door to many heartfelt requests. There are some amazing things you should know about this incredibly tight song: Cory and crew (left side) and Dirty Loops (the three magicians on the right as of this recording had never met in person. Cory's gang recorded in Minneapolis MN and DLoops recorded in Stockholm, Sweden! I often feel that Loops music is for everyone with an ear that musicians really get them. Based on that identifier I'm going to recommend "Work Shit Out", "Wake Me Up" older tune. They first came on everyones radar by putting up TH-cam videos that have since received millions of hits. Also "World on Fire" and the epic, incredible "Next to You". I think of this one as DLoops "Bohemian Rhapsody" it's that good. So go wild and know you'll have plenty of fans ready to jump down this rabbit hole with you. Welcome to the club. Oh yeah, that big ass tom is called a gong tom.

    Hahaha, great reaction. I just love to watch someone finding Dirty Loops for the first time and seeing their minds implode. :D
    DL hasn't made a single bad song, so if you want to make more reactions to them, you can pretty much pick any song, and you won't be disappointed. My absolute favourite is Work Shit Out but, as I said, they're all stellar. Everything from the first covers they released back in 2010 up until the collab album Turbo, that they did with Cory Wong (who plays the guitar) is just mindblowing.
    The three guys on the right, Jonah, Aron and Henrik, is Dirty Loops, and they recorded both audio and video for the whole Turbo abum in Stockholm, Sweden. Cory Wong and the horns did their parts in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Aron (the drummer in DL) did the video editing to make it seem like they're in the same room. Gotta love modern tech when there's a pandemic going on, making in person collabs impossible. :D
    I'm not a drummer, so I might not be totally accurate here, but I think that huge side drum is called a gong drum? Any drummers here who can confirm that or correct me?

      @cdanielpetersson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Correct Lotta about Gong Drum.
      From Drum Workshop's website:
      "The Gong Drum is a large single-headed mountable bass drum/tom hybrid that produces a very low, staccato fundamental. DW's gong bass drum incorporates several design innovations and mounting options to better meet the needs of today's progressive players. Featuring a 21" or 23" (both 16" deep) 10-ply undersized all-maple shell for increased projection"

    Dirty Loops was the trio on the right side of the screen (filmed in Sweden) Cory Wong on guitar, horns, etc on left side (filmed in Minneapolis I believe). They collab’d on a whole album (I believe). Just discovered these guys and still trying to figure it all out.

    I was one of those who recommended Dirty Loops to you in the snarky puppy video, i knew you will love it -
    god-tier musicians playing "playlist friendly" songs ;)
    The core group is the singer/keys drummer and bass. Cory wong (the guitarist) and the brass section players joined them for this collaboration. follow up should prb be "Dirty Loops - Next To You" or "Dirty Loops - Work Shit Out", both are amazing.

    This was such a treat! Wow, new band for me as well, and loved the joy from the band (and also your genuine ecstatic reaaction was great!) Makes it almost worth it after you introduce me to the most terrible music sometimes..I mean it. Violence enducing terrible stuff. This one makes it worth the screaming and headache... I was waiting for Aurora, and now I can wait for more from this band. :D

    • @SteveOGRock
      @SteveOGRock  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha! Well, I’m honoured you’ve stuck around through the various heavy music I also enjoy listening to. Thanks Randy! Glad you enjoyed this one.
      For what’s it’s worth though, I don’t find heavy music remotely violence inducing personally. I find scream vocals to largely be a cathartic expression of emotion… when done well. As with any genre: some stuff is rubbish, others is brilliant. Gotta get used to the sound to then discover the benefits of it.

    • @randym6034
      @randym6034 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SteveOGRock Listen, it is a credit to you that I actually open my mind somewhat, and take a listen to the things you react to. And some of the artists are really good, I can see that, for sure. Your appreciation for them is clearly genuine, and even if it baffles me I can see the catharsis. I just wouldn't go in that direction for to look for that effect, I suppose. My playlist expands every day, and is embarassingly inconsistent. I move between Kurt Elling, Stromae, Aurora, Bruno Mars, and many other genres without any clear plans, and that's how I am I suppose. Added a couple of songs from Dirty Loops now! The amazing energy! Have a great Sunday, and keep putting diamonds in between the screaming!

      @SteveOGRock  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Haha! Thanks Randy, I’ll do my best for ye. As you can probably tell from the wide variety of music I enjoy I’m all about the inconsistent music playlists. Variety is the spice of life and all that!
      My next video out today is not gonna be one you’ll love: lots of screaming. But it does have quite a nice pop vocal in the chorus so maybe check that bit out for the craic and then move on 😂

    Some points of interest: 1) Cory Wong and Dirty Loops have never met! 2) The "Turbo" album was recorded with Cory Wong & the horn section in or around New York City, USA; Dirty Loops in or around Stockholm, Sweden; and the producer/engineer in or around Seoul, South Korea!! 3) TRUTH!!! Oh, the wonders of modern technology...

    • @RobertClaeson

      The sound engineer (a certified master Masterer) is Swedish although he lives in Seoul. He creates the most well-defined, crystal clear mixes I've ever heard, where you can clearly hear each and every instrument very well defined, especially if you have access to high-bitrate lossless streams.

    All the songs from this collaboration are awesome (Cory Wong and Dirty Loops // Turbo). There are youtube videos for “Follow the Light”, “Ring of Saturn”, “Turbo”, and their cover of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”. All of them are fantastic and very funky. Cory also plays guitar for Vulfpeck. If you like funk, and haven’t heard any of their stuff, do yourself a favor and find some. Vulfpeck Live at Madison Square Garden might be a good start. Cory Wong does a lot of solo and collaborative projects, many include that horn section. His band, including most of those horns is out touring right now (Feb 2022)…

    • @johngalvin4271
