Most games I cast are tournament games, it’s not allowed in those
I remember one incident where a player used chat for a friendly glhf, he was facing immediate disqualification. The only saving grace was that the other person responded in kind and the decided to make an exception for that incident.

When harstem started building his last static defence buildings I was like "Uh...are...you sure? That leaves like...no minerals to rebuild anything"

Watched harstems perspective, I don’t even know if he REALIZED he was low on interceptors. Think he could have camped out on a area with even more static D if he wanted?

@@karolchruzik1919 easy to say, but harstem could force the queens to walk off creep. Playing defensively, he could also easily lay storms on top of a well placed time warp.
@@yellow4563 As tumors are energy based, making the queens walk off creep would never have really been possible. He could have laid down enough tumors in an area to creep the range in a few seconds. Yeah, Harstem could have used revelation and tempests to kill the tumors but with how many queens Serral had, he'd have been ok.

@@InfinityReptar seriously though, I think harstem won. Not literally but mentally because he managed to get in a winning position and get a tie with the second highest ranked player. He knows that serral is still slightly better than him so this is quite the achievement

@@PresidentialWinner he was pissed he got no mmr increase because serral has a significantly higher mmr than he does. He thought a draw would be no MMR change for serral and a small increase for him.
@@yellow4563 I like the fact that to win mmr, you have to risk it and that cowering means you get nothing.
In many skill ranking systems (like Elo), a draw counts as both a win and a loss so that the lower-ranked player is rewarded for avoiding a (statistically likely) loss

I agree. If Serral suicided the hydras, Harstem could have figured out there was a transition and go on the offensive.
But Harstem was putting those units under Revelation, he would have figured it out anyway
Killing his own units means that Harstem doesn't know the transition is happening.
I'm new to SC2 and am a big fan. I keep playing the campaign over and over trying to get the achievements. Watching these guys really helps with strategies. Your commentary and little tips have helped too. I didn't think this game would be this popular still. Just getting into coop and vs play and I'm glad to see the pool of players is large still.
I love when he talks about how players could respond to the strategies being played out. Helps to deal when/if we ever see them on the ladder.
The end of this match was like a sloth falling asleep while choking it's prey.

@@trojan2984 Is actually rare because most of the time, due to Startcraft 2 Gamplay one player is always meant to win, the times when I have seen s draw is usually when a Map is mine out and the playes have no resourses left to make new units
It was a strategic draw though, and a good play by Harstem because Serral would have won this for sure

he did not lost, he would have backed up to the batteries and go for another round after he would produced a few carriers, the problem is, he just did spend all his minerals so he could not build interceptors, but technicylly he lst, serral just did not knew he cant reproduce interceptors, i doubt he would have agreed to a draw then

The way I see it, Harstem still would've lost even camped out in the bottom left base. Those static defenses weren't enough to overpower Serral's army plus all that transfuse energy.
I was literally watching this game on Harstem's TH-cam channel when i saw that you had a similar length video. Of course its that game lol. Awesome though because he was too focused too talk.

Just watched this on Harstems Chanel and here I am watching it again.
The sad part is that without intersceptors that fight would've given serral the win regardless of the static defence. It's just that serral had no way to figure it out.
Idk... Harstem WAS very low on interceptors. The static defense may not have been enough to even the odds. Not sure. I've seen Harstem play Serral a couple times now, and I feel like he asks Serral for a draw whenever he thinks he won't win. Serral is WAY more badass, he's always like, "Nah I'll win, no problem!" LOL I really hoped Serral was gonna win that though. I thought he had a chance at least.

Thought of skipping this episode, but The Epic Intro said no you don't.
Automated stalemate happens if nothing is being killed *and nobody is mining*. That's why it never popped up at the first draw offer when both armies were idle but Harstem was still mining -- and that's why Serral thought the draw offer was a bluff as Harstem continued mining, preventing the game from ending. (And then Harstem stopped mining when Serral said something about it, until they decided to keep playing it out.)
this is a good example of what RTS gaming is like when the surrender button isn't the first option after taking a hard hit and suddenly being behind

What happens when an unstoppable force meets an unmovable object.
The reason Harstem was not mining at around 47:00 minutes is that for game to register a draw neither player can attack or buold a unit/structure or mine recourse for a given amount if time. So if they were to agree on a draw, mining would only prolong the wait.
I didn't find the ending disappointing. I always love the friendliness of SC2 pros. The chesslike honesty (give or take rounding or knowing the difference between 8 and 9) about their supply and resources, the complete lack of bitterness from either player when discussing draws. As Lowko says, Serral is probably the best SC2 player, certainly one of them, but he still has so much respect for his opponent that he's happy to accept the draw both when it looks like he'd lose eventually and when it looks like he'd win eventually because they recognize the value of each other's time. Sure, as a story it'd be more dramatic if one of them made the biggest play and got the win in the end but as a slice of reality it just makes me happy how classy these guys are, especially when we've *all* seen how bad humans can get in competitive scenarios.

Its funny. Watching that protos moving up static defenses I kept thinking "he's being real bold with those resources he can't get back anymore". Little did I know that was slowly going to be their undoing.

i never expected pro player would have made rookie mistake like this. i have seen so many times when players go carrier+zealot then at the end lost because they run out of minerals

I feel like Serral had that, even with the static defense because of the lack of interceptors and the inability to rebuild them.

LOL today started good, my mobile game gave one big fat reward, opened Harstem channel and saw this game narrated from Harstem's POV, now I come here and the video starts with the greatest intro of all time.
It is fun to listen to Lowkos comments vs what actually happened to Harstem, which shows how much pro-players are human after all.
The only reasonable next step would be finding this same video from Zerral's POV and listen to the game :D
After Harstem's 3rd goes down lowko says "On the back of this Serral has been making quite a lot of drones, and he is going to be very very significantly ahead." I'm gonna need someone to explain that to me.
Even after the hard drone up it's 61 drones versus 60 probes (when he launched the attack Serral had been behind by almost 20 workers), and Harstem had access to far better tech (Stargate and Robo bay versus roach warren). To me, at 7 minutes into the game if a Zerg finds himself even on worker count even on army size, and significantly behind in tech, he's well behind his Protoss opponent, not "very very significantly ahead".
"Not quite at the level of Netherlands", a quite apt saying, considering it is *below* the sea level.

at the end, the one with the advantage was serral simply because the carriers cannot reinforce their interceptors. static defense were not an issue for the brutes

I think serral intentional baited out harstem resources. He knew harstem bluffed about his mining then started pestering shield batteries after what was already a very long match. This in turn got harstem to respond with even more shield batteries in even more locations. Serral turned an eventual loss into a forced draw.

Serral is so crafty. He probably practices 1 hour stalemates. I have seen something of this before, though. Although gas is often the most important resource, because Protoss has to make static defense with minerals, and can't move it around like spore crawlers, and interceptors cost minerals, there's always a chance for zerg, unless the Protoss has mined more minerals than the zerg and can remax with it when the zerg can't. So Serral probably knew from the exchange of messages about banks his position and that it could still be at least a draw for him.
My boyfriend fell asleep watching this last night, I (the girlfriend, who does not play SC2) watched until the end to see who won. I refuse to tell him the end result.

FUN GAME! Harstem lost and Serral won. Harstem was impatient. He also made a huge mistake by not killing structures when he controlled the entire right side of the map. This would prevent Serral to re-max. I notice this keeps happening in many games Harstem has lost. It's because he is neglecting to kill structures that allow the Zerg opponent to build army within seconds. It would just take couple of Void Rays. Well... hopefully next time.

I loved Harstem's stasis wards to advance in the mid-late late game (like 45 mins in lol) - it would be great to see more of that, to cause ultralisk sim city and protect HTs during the big air-air battles
I would love more games like this when the game is special in some way, players excanging bases, super long matches, both players cheesing etc etc, great job though

At the first suggested draw, Serral was behind but it looks like he wanted to prove that he couldn't be beaten by that army. At the second suggested draw, Serral was ahead, but it would have been a huge pain to chase Harstem all over the map; up until then Harstem was attacking and slowly losing, but if he went into retreat mode it would have taken even longer.
