      Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks. The desert landscape is nice on a clear day. I am piecing together Part 2 of the ride video and hope to post it to Wheel Stories in the next few weeks. I stayed on the bike until sunset after getting turned around at the volcanic butte. More cool scenery on tap.

      Very true! The road isn't bad until you start rounding up behind the butte. Then it gets very rocky, rutted and too much for the R1150R. Thanks for watching.

    Always great to see your video pop on my notifications. Another awesome adventure. I've taken my 1150 Rockster on dirt and gravel road. I just have to remember my ground clearance and no bash plate.😁
    I like you jacket. What brand is it?

    • @WheelStories
      @WheelStories  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True. Ground clearance is the issue. The BMW GS stands much higher than the R1150R. The jacket is made by Cortech, I believe. I might have misspelled the brand. I've had it for years. It's my cool weather riding jacket. Features padding and a warm liner that zips in and out.

    This reminded me just a bit of the “Long way” bike series with Ewan Mcgregor and crew and their BMW’s. They’ve produced 3 now. Have you seen them?. I think you’d enjoy them while your not riding in the winter. Bing worthy for sure!

    • @WheelStories
      @WheelStories  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. The Long Way Round inspired me to start my TH-cam Channel. I've seen all three in the series. Just finished watching the the Long Way Up. I'd like to know more about the behind the scenes part of the journey. Keeping the electric bikes and pickups charged and running, I'd assume, was a bigger challenge than we may know. I wouldn't be shocked if they were packing a generator in one of the support vehicles. I found it interesting the Claudio, the cameraman, I think that's his name, was riding and HD Sportster. There's an untold story. Thanks for watching.

    • @katzsteel
      @katzsteel 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WheelStories I finished that series in a few nights. Very interesting and kudos to them for trying something that really isn’t ready yet for real world travel. Harley did a great job on the bikes though. I was thinking, why not just have connected trailers that the bikes would pull behind that would provide more juice and add more mileage capabilities. I just finished watching the first one, long way around, and that looked challenging to say the least through China and Russia. All of them were so well done. Kinda sad that I watched them all.

    hi, nice videos...so nice i just bought a 2004, r1150r. too much wind and buffeting at 75 mph. mu bike has the cee bailet screen on it and it is not a tall screen. any ideas how to calm the wind and noise or is it just fine at 75MPH with NO windscreen? thanks.

    • @WheelStories
      @WheelStories  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a mid height screen made by BMW and another small screen made by Givi. Both do a decent job of deflecting the major blast from my chest. But they do not eliminate the wind and noise entirely. I'm okay with that. I like a little wind.

    I just noticed that your handle bar has a little more rise on them, and looks more comfortable. Is it an aftermarket handlebar that you had installed?

    • @WheelStories
      @WheelStories  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're the standard bars, I believe. I have handlebar risers on my black BMW R1150R featured in some of my other videos. But the bars, as far as I can tell, are the same. The risers make the bars about an inch higher.

      The saddlebags are from BMW and designed for the bike. I don't know if BMW still offers the panniers as the bike is an older model. I bought one pair of saddlebags used. Found them on Craigslist.

    Since the Roadster is half a GS to begin with I knew you could make it out. I have taken my Roadster up similar dirt roads and survived. However, sometimes the pucker factor can be very high.

    • @WheelStories
      @WheelStories  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't mind owning an ADV bike for more dirt travel. Maybe a 650 to 900 in size. There are lots of dirt roads and scenic mountain areas here in Idaho that would be fun to explore. Down the road maybe. Thanks for watching.

      Like any motorcycle, the BMW R1150R has a few quirks. The ABS model is noted for having issues with the pressure module. Mine failed and I converted the bike to a traditional braking system, eliminating the ABS feature. Repairing or replacing the ABS module is expensive. I've heard of final drive issues but I've not encountered any problems. Otherwise, a very reliable bike. The BMW oil head twin engine is solidly built. I love the motorcycle.

      The road to the parking area at the bottom of the butte was a piece of cake. I was thinking maybe it's just a normal dirt road the rest of the way up. I was wrong. It became rocky and rutted very quick. Your right. The R1150R wasn't designed for off roading.
