    I remember when I was 7 years old, my dad took me to my first concert ever on this tour. I had listened to their music ever since i was an infant. I fell asleep as they were finishing up the show. I am now a dedicated drummer because of neil peart. may he rest in peace.

      I agree, this is low key one of the better songs they ever wrote.
      Lots of great songs from Rush’s last 3 albums don’t get anywhere near the recognition they should. Armour and Sword, The Anarchist, Earthshine, Ghost Rider, The Wreckers…
      Hell, their album Test For Echo is extremely underrated.
      Great freakin band…

      Blood is drained of color.
      By the flashes of artillery light.
      No one gets to their heaven without a fight'

    Some of Neil's greatest writing in this song "Our better natures seek elevation, A refuge for the coming night" and "Sometimes the spirit is too strong, Or the flesh is too weak, Sometimes the need is just too great, For the solace we seek" and others ... bang on the money for me.

    • @trenken
      @trenken 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah but this album was also too angry towards religion for me. Im not religious but to have it banged over your head relentlessly like this was a bit much. In the past he would have a song here and there about it. Freewill for example. But a whole album about that wasnt really needed imo.

    • @jcsman4244
      @jcsman4244 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trenkenYeah considering the track “Faithless” - that’s the quagmire with this album - musically it’s off the charts, lyrically it’s more of Peart’s own commentary and hatred towards religion.

    • @trenken
      @trenken ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jcsman4244 yeah i mean he danced around his distaste for the religious mindset in stuff like freewill and many other songs, but a much older neil who was very jaded by the tragedies he experienced, came out with this album which was just an all out assault on religion. And it was also directly attacking believers is a pretty malicious way. Basically saying they are diseased.
      Geddy talked about this but neil was an angry man in his later years. He wasnt a nice guy and that comes out in this album more than any other. Only reason clockwork isnt all pissy is bc he just wrote some fake story instead of complaining about people.

    Snakes and Arrows was a prolific, thought provoking album which took guts to create. This tour was about many dark, saturnine topics and still was a tour de force of original, ferocious rock (even for Rush). This tour (after 42 concerts of Rush that I saw) is still one of my favorites along with Grace Under Pressure.
