@TimDriscoll You Sir, have encapsulated the mindset that many of us Rush devotees feel when we hear the compositions that these extremely talented men produce! I too feel the same way as you have described. I want to be the best ME that I can when I hear any song that Rush produces! Thank you for being so insightful.
I always thought this and Stick it Out were (2) of their better ones in their mid/later works. I thought Counterparts was fantastic. Others seem to disagree.
EAZYED420 I know right! We've got 20 solid albums from each one of them producing a different sound from the last. Rush is the best ever and I'm extremely glad the world had 42 years with them before they called it quits.
They have the recognition and attention from millions of fans and also many many fellow musicians from different genres 👍🏽 That's good enough for them they said. The R&R hall of fame induction was just icing on the cake.
Agree! I always appreciated rush, but my true obsession blossomed about the time clockwork angels came out. Counterparts was one of the LAST albums I explored, and wow….. what an album… the first 3 songs alone blew Me away, and it just didn’t stop
Eric Bolt no need to be sorry for being bang on the money. Not only superb musicians they are not up their own backside concerned about their image, only making music for their loyal fans. You know if you saw them in the street they would stop and have a chat. (Neil might not though). I’ve loved them ever since I heard Bastille Day.
karp1941 I recommend listening to it with headphones and you will really get how well it is aranged. The studio version works best, but any will do. 😎
Love Counterparts and Test For Echo to be quite honest. They went back to the rock style (of that era, kinda like their debut) but no one really cared. Didn't have the pop potential like Moving Pictures. But there's some awesome workmanship in both albums and the lyrics really hit home on them both. Just love it.
Absolute perfection. My son and I will have the privilege of seeing them in Chicago June 12, 2015. I've heard nothing but rave reviews of their R40 tour.
Me & my husband are Rush buddies & on the R40 Tour we went to 11 shows. We knew that if it was to be their last tour, we wanted to make it the best. We previously attended several shows each tour starting with VT Tour in 2001. We were not disappointed ‘ although we miss seeing them, they left us with so many awesome memories & we have made hundreds of Rush friends throughout the years. Thank you Dirk, Lerxst & Pratt. You truly are the “3 Kings”!
What more do you need or can ask for? This song is spot on from beginning to end. If this doesn't make you want to drive fast and slap a steering wheel there must be something wrong. One of my top five Rush songs of all time!
Wanna know how I know Rush is the greatest band ever? I can start my night listening to Beneath, Between and Behind, La Villa Strangiato, and Madrigal and then end it with Animate and Test For Echo. I never get tired of their music. So much amazing music and so brilliantly played and composed. Total geniuses
I've seen Rush at least a dozen times going all the way back to the mid 80s. I have also been to probably 75 other concerts. I can say, without any shadow of a doubt, that *THE BEST* sounding concerts I have been to have been Rush, Iron Maiden, and Pink Floyd. Kiss *SUCKED* out loud. CONSTANT feedback, fade-ins and outs (guy working the board didn't have a clue). Metallica was good, Queensryche was great, Def Leppard was good, but Rush, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, and OH YEAH, Nine Inch Nails sounded FANTASTIC. Rush has always been known (and they call themselves) as a "live band". It is amazing to me just how close the concerts are to the actual recordings. Yet, you can clearly tell that there is no "lip-syncing" going on, and that they are actually playing. They are truly some of the greatest and most gifted artists on the planet. Three Canadian dudes just kicking ass with near perfection and such a "full" sound every time, even 40 years later. Amazing. Pink Floyd, while still one of my favourite concerts, had something like 15-20 people on stage! Rush has THREE. LOVE IT!
PURE GENIUS !! THESE 3 HAVE TAKEN ME A PLACE I CANNOT EXPLAIN IN MUSIC FOR MOST MY LIFE! THEY MAY HAVE RETIRED BUT RUSH WILL GO ON FOREVER! THANK YOU GEDDY,ALEX AND NEAL !!!
trying to comprehend, understand, or break down why this band is so brilliant is like trying to figure out our sun by staring at it with your naked eyes.
As a casual Rush fan, my brother suggested I listen to this song back in 93 I believe. I was completely blown away how good this song was. Has been in every playlist I’ve had, ever since.
that bass is so elemental and reminds me of the idea of compact efficiency as you get older and gain experience knowing that it's not how much you do but how efficient you are.
Son: "Dad, what does it sound like when three of the greatest musicians to ever live get together and Make music?" Dad: "Here Son, watch this video..."
I always listened them. Im young, just 17 years old but my dad made me discover them. My favorite band ever! Counterparts is my favorite album. Rest in peace N.P, you will always be one of my biggest idols.
I have this song on repeat....can't get enough of this song. The power behind it is just too amazing! So perfect! Definitely one of my favorites if not my favorite. There's something about that song. It influenced me in my writing. Perfection!!!!!!
Seen Rush several times. Newbies to a Rush show are always looking for the other 3 guys as its absolutely mindblowing that only three guys can make soooooo much music with the intensity of getting hit in the head with a wrecking ball! Quite possibly the best band ever !
Destemidos, ousados e competentes.... Avessos as imposições da midia, esse caras revolucionaram a musica orquestral com pitadas originais de traços progressivo- contemporâneo. Facil de ouvir......difícil de tocar. 40 anos de RUSH !
Love the comment, so f'n true. Easy to imitate but near impossible to replicate EXACTLY the intensity, sense of timing, and creative abilities he has. Let alone compose this time after time after time after time after time... 40 years of genius, thank you NP and thank you RUSH; without equivalent, ever...
Ok this is my favorite rush song and I really don't know why. There's something about it and I can't fathom it. I know there are other great ones and I've been a rush fan for forever but they are not human in this, that's all I have to say.
TheClutchman32 I think it's the relentless sound. Neil's intro on the album is fucking mind-blowing. One of my favorite things to do when I'm on my bike is to cue this track up to blast through my helmet speakers just as I'm hitting an onramp. It's a rush, pun most definitely intended.
It's my favorite RUSH song as well. For me it's just the power of this song. All 3 guys are just killing it!! Behind 2112 & Moving Pictures, Counterparts is my next favorite RUSH album
R30 was a damn awesome tour Blistering performance in the U.K. And the crowd went wild Best concert I've ever been to See Rush several times but that was truly the bomb 83 was pretty special too Keep it 2️⃣1️⃣1️⃣2️⃣
For the greatest band in history ... ever... my humble opinion ... my God ... 3 amazing talents, sometimes overshadowed by the Genius of the super talented Mr. Neil Peart (perhaps because the drums have always been my love and I found Neil's playing exquisite !!!) but Mr. Geddy Lee and Mr. Alex Lifeson were true maestros in their own right ... A great talent has been lost and what a painful shame ...but I guess that's life ... I Thank you RUSH for all your extraordinary music ... you have been with me since 1981 ... wow... time flies ..... you have been my company... you have been my sorrow... you have been my helping hand and at times my saving hand ... Thank you for your music and your legacy... it has been one of the greatest memories of my Life .. I am truly grateful for being able to have discovered your music long ago .... by the way the slow tempo on this version ... me likes :)

R30 was a fully awesome tour. One of their best. Animate likewise one of their very best compositions and performance pieces...quintessential rush tune, on so many levels.
It has been a few months - no Rush. I was over due. Went searching in the collection, have over 250 live Rush shows. Found the 1994 Counterparts Tour - Philly. Listened to this song raw and powerful. Counterparts was the best since the early 80's, and underrated. I miss my band. I am hoping that they do a festival at some point. After 1997, with Neil's issues (family) they showed up five years later. Maybe, just maybe Neil physically can do it again. You never know, miracles do happen.
This was the first album I ever was waiting anxiously for the release- I had discovered Rush in high school, went to the Roll the Bones tour, and was in college when I heard it was coming soon. Couldn't wait for class to get over to rush down to the store and buy it! Closed the portable CD player, made sure the car tape adapter was working, and we cranked it up only to have to hit the back button and listen to the intro again, shocked at the epicness! That next year would have worn the CD out if such a thing were possible. :)
Never be another drummer like neil
This song was Neil's favorite.
Thank you for being part of several moments of my life.
R.I.P
Yes it was!!!!!!...I love Bravado also!👏👏👏
wow that is awesome to know! , this has been one of my all time faves forever
I didn't know that but from when the album was released it become my favorite too nice to find your comment! Rip Neil
I didn't realize that. Was that from a lyrical or musical perspective?
@@tonymuse I believe that musically. These lyrics are amazing.
When I listen to rush, it just makes me want to work harder at my job, be a better human being, that says a lot

This song is such a banger, I'm surprised it isn't included more in conversations about Rush's best songs
I always thought this and Stick it Out were (2) of their better ones in their mid/later works. I thought Counterparts was fantastic. Others seem to disagree.
@@jrock2264 FWIW you certainly have my agreement.
Counterparts is my favorite album 🤷🏾♂️
Almost all of the Counterparts' songs are excellent!!! I heard this album 2.000.000 times!
Absolutely they kill it with this song, late '50s during this performance wow
I dont know why people listen to other bands, Honestly! Its all right here
EAZYED420 I know right! We've got 20 solid albums from each one of them producing a different sound from the last. Rush is the best ever and I'm extremely glad the world had 42 years with them before they called it quits.

Unpopular opinion...
Counterparts is their best album!
Counterparts and everything that came after it was brilliant rock!
Why should it be unpopular, if that's your opinion then fair enough.
The sound of the drums is just pure perfection!
Glad I saw them often just a perfect song
Neil is amazing in this performance
❤
Now I see what Neal once said about his live performances…
“It’s like doing calculus while running a marathon”😂
RUSH is the greatest 3 piece band ever formed. None of them get the attention and recognition they deserve. Long live RUSH!
They have the recognition and attention from millions of fans and also many many fellow musicians from different genres 👍🏽
That's good enough for them they said.
The R&R hall of fame induction was just icing on the cake.
Lol they get the recognition it's just that we are all too busy listening to them to come and speak about them.
I love counterparts !!!! Such a hidden jem

Their last true great album I think.
