I wanted to thumbs down this, but not because I thought it was a bad comment. I just couldn't hit the icon. It's beyond sad. For many of us, a life-changing and truly generational (or dare I say a lifetime) band. For those of us who were lucky enough to see them live, we have been truly blessed. I still can't rationalize that Neil is no longer 'here'.

Jason Goodwin g’day Jason. I love ghost of a chance. Beautiful song. To cut a long story short, I only got into rush after Neil peart’s death, even though I’d been aware of them since the 80s. I finally got the last few discs a few weeks ago... roll the bones, counterparts and test for echo... as is the way of these rush albums, there is always one song that is the breakthrough song, and on RTB it’s ghost of a chance. There’s always a gem hidden way deep in Rush albums.

    • @jasongoodwin6132
      @jasongoodwin6132 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Shane Wilson I’ve listened to Rush off and on over the past 30 years, so I’m well aware of their body of work. Having said that, while Tom Sawyer is their best known song, my favorite is Circumstances.
At any rate, the lyrics are just phenomenal. Some people can’t get into Rush because they are unique in so many ways. But it’s what set them apart from everyone else that helped to create their dedicated fan base.

We are secrets to each other
    Each one's life a novel
    No-one else has read
Even joined in bonds of love
    We're linked to one another
    By such slender threads
We are planets to each other
    Drifting in our orbits
    To a brief eclipse
Each of us a world apart
    Alone and yet together
    Like two passing ships
    Just between us
I think it's time for us to recognize
The differences we sometimes feared to show
    Just between us
I think it's time for us to realize
    The spaces in between
    Leave room
For you and I to grow
We are strangers to each other
    Full of sliding panels
    An illusion show
    Acting well-rehearsed routines
    Or playing from the heart?
It's hard for one to know
    Just between us
I think it's time for us to recognize
The differences we sometimes feared to show
    Just between us
I think it's time for us to realize
    The spaces in between
    Leave room
For you and I to grow
We are islands to each other
    Building hopeful bridges
    On a troubled sea
Some are burned or swept away
    Some we would not choose
    But we're not always free
    Just between us
I think it's time for us to recognize
The differences we sometimes feared to show
    Just between us
I think it's time for us to realize
    The spaces in between
    Leave room
For you and I to grow

I was 12 years young when Permanent Waves dropped and found my odd introverted eccentric self aligned into a kindred spirit with Rush. My mind blown and intellect invaded with such ethereal musicianship and elevated lyricism. Entre Nous is just one of those dainty prophetic tunes that echoes of passerby wisdom and rich humanism that is truly timeless in its existence. I have a Rush shaped hole in my heart since their retirement.

It is a true power trio at work, with that unbelievably crisp yet effortless looking bass solo (3:23 his fingers glide in an other-wordly way), with canon shot, dead center, precision beats, and Alex's guitar filling in with an almost impossibly rich, full and consistent sound.....masterpiece. The depth of the catalog is mind blowing. They can pull out an obscure song like this and it's a masterpiece with a hook from Alex worthy of a top 10 hit.

Now even 40 years after I learned how to play Entre Nous on guitar, coming out of that bridge and back to verse still gives me chills. An absolute joy to cover!

P.S. You've helped remind me that nothing lasts forever; we need to live in the moment and appreciate greatness. Despite seeing you guys numerous times, tours, I viewed Rush as a constant that will remain. I am passed the point of feeling sadness, loss and even mourning. Now, I celebrate every note! Thank you again, Alex, Geddy and Neil. A million times over!

Hard to believe that this song only last live through half a tour in it's existence. I've always loved this song as it remains firmly in my 'Top 10' Rush tunes.

3:06 to 3:10...love this shot of all of them together. Reflects everything about this band, this song, and this song’s lyrics. RIP Neil and thank you Rush for speaking to all your fans through your music, lyrics, and performances.

One of Rush's few so ga without a "proper" guitar solo, yet I love what they worked out in its place. It's more of an orchestral summation of emotion (good name for a band?) than a solo full of notes.
The song has been going on around and around in my head lately the past couple weeks and I think it's the next song on my list to learn. I always loved the chords, on the album it's about the closest that he comes to sounding like bells from a cathedral. Except for the distortion during the verse. So glad the brought this one up from the vault to play live.

When Rush returned from their 5 year hiatus, on every tour, they would play a song that hasn't been played live, Between Sun and Moon (Vapor Trails Tour), Presto(Time Machine Tour)& Losing It(R40) are examples.

The part of this performance that I love is right at the 3:00 mark, where Geddy and Alex come meet at center stage just in front of Neil and jam. It’s like they’re stating , this is what 3 guys can do! Amazing!
