    Really cool video Kurt! I missed this one when it came out somehow. That's an awesome Christmas gift for your nephew, I bet he loved it! Thanks for showing us the difference between UV lights. The UV Beast is on my list of things to get. Now, I'll probably get that smaller one that worked pretty well too! Terrific rocks also, they worked wonderfully for this video. I love the ones that have phosphorescence.✨️ Thanks for another fantastic video and all the great content!✌️🤠🤘

    Thank for bringing up the over heat element that shuts off, I purchased one because I found some great stuff in the field, after about 30 mins it started to shut off, I was mad because I was in the field. I purchased 2 more because I thought it was damaged, and I figure I would have 2 incase I needed an extra one, now I have 3 uv beasts... Lol they are good though, very powerful. Also have the beam one, very easy to cary around, the beast is very bulky. Like them both very much. I have found lots of stuff but no idea what they are. Might make videos about that

      Yeah man I’m glad my video helped. The lights produce a lot of power and with constant use for a decent period it just triggers a auto shut off to cool down then they will turn back on if you don’t hit the button to turn off. They are very good lights. If you need help identifying you can send me some photos on Facebook Messenger or send me a email: rock_hounding_adventures@yahoo.com if I recognize anything I will let you know. Thanks for watching and have a great week.

    Good demo of why not to get a 385nm wavelength light. Minerals have little response to that wavelenght, the difference between the dark beam and the UVBeast is in intensity, because the dark beam has only one Cree led and the UVBeast has 3 Cree leds, and more batteries. The demo would have been better if you had done it on a blacked out surface instead of a wood/laminate surface. To really see the response, your camera can not really do that good, as the photocell controlling the exposure will wash out with the higher intensity beam of the UVBeast. Our eyes are amazing and so much more sensitive to the actual colors revealed by LW or SW UV. All these lamps are in the LW category.

      Informative response, thank you!
      A question posed to a different creator asked the difference between a regular LED flashlight and a gem light. The creator's response was simply, "Brightness." 🤦🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️
      "Wavelength" would have been a much better one-word answer, LOL!

    Great video. Its good because some people dont know the difference. that dark beam isnt bad. I had a dark beam but it was smaller then that one and it wasnt bad for what it was. I think i got two of them for like $12. There is no comparison between tbe uv beast and any other 365nm light thats not a yooperlight! Its a beast! Not fair! lol! But you get what you pay for. You really do. Thanks Kurt!

    Having a decent blacklight flashlight on hand is worth it even if a bit expensive.
    I decided to DIY my own as I like Convoy S2 flashlight, and paid a bit more for the Nichia NVSU233A UV LED for decent results, with a cheap Wood's glass filter, resulting in the clean 365nm light as far as my eyes can see (I apparently can actually see UV, to me, 365nm looks like a very harsh purple hue, as it should be for a 365nm source). Gonna try doing some rock hunting at some point now that I know I have a high quality blacklight flashlight.

  • @Muonium1
    @Muonium1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The main reason for the Darkbeam being inferior to the UVbeast, aside from obvious power output difference, is the fact that the Darkbeam doesn't have a filter. At 365nm, the energy of the photons is so high that practically everything fluoresces to some extent, including the LED's own package and the flashlight lens itself! Thus the light output contains a lot of visible and blue light. You can get a $3 ZWB2 filter to stick on the front of the light that will make it just as pure, if not as bright, as the UVbeast. Note that the 395nm cheap trash "UV" lights aren't ALL bad and you can make them a great deal more useful by simply coupling them with a pair of yellow tinted 'blue-blocking' glasses, which will notch out the vast majority of purple light reaching your eye, but still allow you to see the fluorescence such wavelengths can readily excite. See the video by Rhett Peterson of "448nm Blue Light Mineral Fluorescence" illustrating this with not even near-UV light but just a straight-up blue LED.
    Unfortunately I think we will be waiting a very long time for cheap UVC LEDs. I've been waiting 3 years and the prices are not moving, just inflation! lol. I plan on buying now.

    Yeah, the UV Beast is on the expensive side, but it's worth it. Now we need someone to come out with a relatively inexpensive short wave UV unit that actually works well.

    • @RockHoundingAdventures

    Are those Aliexpress 365nm flashlights claiming 20w, 50w, 60W power any real?

    • @RockHoundingAdventures
      @RockHoundingAdventures  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I looked those up and I don’t believe they will compare at all. Those look super cheap and look like they will likely be a 395 led light with a lot of purple outputs with little power.
      If you don’t want to pay the 79.99 for the 3v 365nm light. Check out uvBeast 365nm mini. It’s filter so it’s safe for your eyes and skin. Come with a lot of power for the size of the light, rechargeable, and will allow the most color to show depending on what your using it for. It’s also great cause it’s small enough to fit in your pocket and take it everywhere.

      @@RockHoundingAdventures I know of no zoomable UV flashlights that are filtered. Not that it is impossible to do. But manufacturers are not doing it. There are some mechanical limitations in doing so with the type of lens they put in them. Similar issue to putting a neutral density filter on ultra-wide angle camera lens.
