The Satre is a super handy survival / bushcraft, or EDC knife, a small fixed blade that is easy to carry and very practical.
A full review will be published on tacticalreviews.co.uk/ so head over there to check out even more details.

    Good morning
Thank you for this video, done really well and with great professionalism
In the comparisons of similar knives like this, in my opinion, it would be nice to have a summary table with the test results at the end
    Good job
    Keep it up

Honestly, I love it. You mentioned that ER has a distinctive design language, and I suppose you either love it or hate it. The size is perfect, and I can tell the sheath is really nice. You can just see that it's good kydex that's thick and fits well. I'm not familiar with the steel, but it's not n690 for once and it sounds like good stuff.

I am impressed by the thoroughness and relaxed approach on getting the details and putting the product under scrutiny from a technical perspective. Your setup works well in getting a look and feel across at the same time.
If I would have to suggest something:
Regarding general attention span decrease because of fast past and widespread media consumption. Maybe it would be a good idea to integrate some kind of short result comparison at the beginning of the video for those eager to condense and rush along. I can imagine that this could help with the views and subscriptions. I understand you have a mixture of written and moving material.
I really appreciate you not pumping along with the oversimplification and false conclusion business which is going on tough!
Keep it up & Best regards

I'm going to buy the black n690 although I like the hss steel. What I don't like is all the graphical embellishment on it. ER did this to the Doberman IV, which put me off buying a knife I really liked.

Hello. Based on your measurements with the laser instrument, all 3 knives had asymetrical bevels from the factory. Is that right?

    • @TacticalReviews
      @TacticalReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi, that is right, yes, most factory edges are asymmetrical. The time available in the manufacturing process for the factory edge to be applied, does not usually allow for the care we would use ourselves when sharpening. A factory edge is typically applied by hand on a belt sander, so the operator does often put a different angle on each side as they need to swap hands for each side.
The first time you sharpen the knife yourself there is often a correction of this asymmetry making that first sharpen a bit more work.

@@TacticalReviews thank you for the quick response. I am considering the s600 Satre version. However, the angles were way too off at your results. 6 degrees are a lot of steel to go through and when finally the knife is properly sharpened, the edge will be completely unbalanced. 155€ for this neck knife. With this price for a neck knife, and coming from a company like Extrema Ratio, i would expect better.

@@theodorosmalliopoulos7231 I tend to find that the first edge I put on almost any knife requires a bit of work. A knife like this, for me, will be going to 35 degrees inclusive, so even if the total angle is being reduced by 11 degrees, it doesn't really matter if more is coming off one side than the other. In fact, as you do sharpen the factory edge, you need not fully reprofile in one go, as if you raise a burr, even only on one side, you have sharpened it.
The full reprofile could be over several sharpenings. I would not dismiss the knife over one factory edge measurement.

@@TacticalReviews ofcourse i do not dismiss it because i like it. Also, i have the sharpening experience and equipment to easily fix such problems. Anyhow, i appreciate your responses. I also read your article at your webpage. You really mention pretty much all the details. Thank you for your work and i hope to see more content from you.

the reason I stop buying extrema ratio knives is they are sharpen by hand and the tips and sharpening edges are never the same .. that makes them ugly.. price is too high for the steels they use.. heattreatment is really bad and not optimal for the steels (they run them soft like really soft) so I will never get another extrema ratio untill they resolve those issues. I love the brand and designs but bad harpenning from the factory and soft steels are big no for me

Please do remember Extrema Ratio knives are primarily designed as service knives. For a service knife it is more important the blade bends rather than breaks, so you will always go a bit softer than a steel can manage.
The edges are also designed for toughness not absolute sharpness. You won't be stropping ER knives like an urban EDC.
You can put a perfect edge on it afterwards, the factory edge is only like the first tank of fuel in a car.
These are tools for hard jobs. Reliable and hard to break.
The models in this review are smaller but with the same design intent.

I need to disagree, non symmetrical tip on a knife just shows the skills of the maker (and they are really poor in that example) also running steel soft to be able to bend will be a great argument if the ER blades are not 5+ mm thick (you can't brake 5mm thick blade stock with normal use so its pointless to run the steel so soft) well if you use them like joe x.. As I said I like the brand I like the design but with such a premium price non symmetrical tips and grinds are just poor italian job.. no other company make poor job as they and demind so high price. Quality control aperantly don't exist even they put a little blue card in every knife box that says it passed inspection.. what a joke. I don't know about other people, but when I pay premium I don't want to grind a new tip on a brand new knife out of the box :)
