True. This film was released seven years before “The Great Mouse Detective”. Great examples of scenes depicting action and pacing.

"Hellboy:Golden Army" is Full of Miyazaki Anime inspiration.
There are a few scenes in seperate movies lupin inspired in this adventure
The art is amazing! From the the car chase at the beginning, to the scenery towards the end of the movie everything is just pleasing to the eye. The animators did an amazing job for this movie!
Hayao Miyazaki (I probably butchered the spelling. If so, I apologize) DID debut in this particular Lupin movie.

@@edwardgaines6561 Take another look. The character movement is filled with intimate little details, both of acting and of texture. There's so much personality in the animation, despite the low budget and unbelievably short production time.
This scene was also referenced in the climax to Batman: The Animated Series' "Clock King" episode. Writer David Wise intentionally set the finale inside a giant clock, and the storyboarders got the reference, if I recall his story correctly.
Also because TMS also animated Batman TAS.

My Childhood Movie and Introduction to Lupin The Third!!! I remember watching this when I was 10!!!
@Kaoklai Siamratanakit This film is one of the more family friendly entries in the Lupin The Third series. The film is rated PG in my country, for both the current Japanese Sub and Family Friendly Dub versions.
@Kaoklai Siamratanakit I watched it at the age of 5 :D Here in germany they aired between some kids movies at a national holiday. The first anime feature film that I ever saw, I think.

@@DuwangKaizer Yeah, it is quite family friendly except for the scene where Lupin and Jigen were smoking. Also in one of the posters for the movie, look closely and you see Jigen is seen chasing a naked woman with a gun on the castle stairs.
I still remember the first time when I saw it !! And that was also the first time I knew Lupin the third. I love him so much !!!

Lupin III is very cool. It also interests the fuck outta me that Castle of Cagliostro, Lupin III’s *third* feature length film also happens to be Miyazaki’s debut directorial role.
This is the dub that features Bob Bergen as the voice of Lupin (or, as he's called in the dub, Wolf). The dub pronounces "Cagliostro" with a hard G.
Most of the time, the name is pronounced with a silent G.

The prototype for this scene was “Puss in Boots” (1969) by Toei Animation, in which Miyazaki participated. The prototype for the subsequent scene in which the treasure appears from the bottom of the water can be seen in “Animal Treasure Island".
I like a Dub of this where Lupin was voiced by Tony Oliver.

I was TODAY YEARS OLD when I found out that the english voice actor for Lupin voices Tamahome in the anime Fushigi Yuugi.
Count Lazare do Cagliostro english voice actor voices Hotohori in the anime Fushigi Yuugi. It is a battle between Tamahome and Emperor Hotohori...My childhood completed! XD.
Why was this film so messed up in 4K?
The version released with the Miyazaki collection was PERFECT. Despite being a blu-ray, the source was a 4K scan, all it needed was HDR/Dolby Vision enhancement and PROPER grain management, and we would’ve had a fantastic UltraHD version.
Instead the colors were DETROYED, DNR was applied, grain removed, and details gone.
The disrespect for the original aesthetic of this masterpiece is insane.

While that method can enhance some movies(like Castle in the Sky) it really gets in the way here.

I don’t get why the Streamline dub gets priority when the Manga has freaking David Hayter. And correct names. And isn’t based on outdated subtitles.
Uhhh, I have the DVD of this and the dubbing is completely different.
That's because there's two dubs. One by AniMaze, and one by Streamline. It's generally agreed that the streamline dub is a bit better.
This is from the 1991 Streamline dub. It's a bit...uhhh...let's be generous and say "loose" with the translation (referring to Lupin as "Wolf" and completely screwing up the whole plot involving the Goat Bills), but the voice acting is *leagues and miles* better than your average anime dub was back in the early 90s.
The Collector's Edition has all the the dubs
The original Japanese is far superior to this. I mean, it brings out Lupin's humour and the count's villainy so much more.

They only call him wolf in some old dubs like in this one or some odler dub of Mystery of Mamo. In the vast majority of the dubs he is called Lupin, although in the 90s movies the pronounce his name as Loop-ín while in all the other dubs he's pronounced Loop-án
