@@BREADSWORD The Breaded One has returned! All hail! Thank you for another banger, man. I watched plenty of Lupin films, but I never thought too deep into them. Your analysis is excellent and helps me appreciate these works a lot more. 😊
no kidding, i just refreshed my youtube subscriptions page, saw the video, and my jaw dropped, coupled with me internally screaming "A NEW BREADSWORD?!"
The best and last line of the film gets me every time, "That thief Lupin stole the most precious thing of all your highness... your heart." Really shows the true goal Miyazaki and the team had in the making of the movie, to sweep us off our feet and lose our hearts to this puckish rouge and his everlasting found family. Yet another great documentary Bread. I understand imposter syndrome getting you, but you create such detailed and factual stuff I find it impossible that anyone could copy your style.
And I love how, when Zenigata says that Lupin stole something again, Clarice instantly turns to him and says no, he's an awesome hero who fought against the Count and saved the day. Just the wonderful fearlessness of her, always standing up to help others, no matter what.
You're a youtuber where i don't care how long it takes between videos because i _know_ that it'll be worth every second and more. The sheer, unadulterated, absolute _love_ you feel for whatever it is you choose to talk about is not just palpable, but _infectious_ every time. Combine that with the fact that you mention every detail you think is relevant to the topic, no matter how minute, and the idea that _anyone_ could assert that you aren't a "real fan" (a silly thing to say regardless) is utterly _baffling_ to me. Keep doing whatever you choose. I'll be along for the ride for as long as you choose to have me and everyone else here.
i can't think of a creator who mixes sincerity, intelligence, and comedy so well. you inspire me so much man please never feel bad about the time you take on videos because it's always worth it
The only TH-camr that comes to mind is Super Eye Patch Wolf. He's done some solid half hour to hours long videos on several topics and media, but personally his videos on Professional Wrestling are my favorites. Specifically covering the long and media defining career of The Undertaker and also the tag team duo The Golden Lovers
Top tier + heart warming + smoothly delivered and edited + Denzel tear + nostalgia for something I have never even watched + existential crisis about are own marks on this world and legacy = a baller master peace
Your videos aren't just entertainment. They are, like, food for the soul. That Patreon payment is the most worthwhile thing I pay for each month. Much love and keep killing it.
I kinda just started bawling at how Clarisse and Fujiko are based on Hayao Miyazaki’s mom cause I could just see all the characters based on them and how his mom now has a near immortal legacy now cause so many characters will just be an echo of her
It will never cease to amaze me that you can create a TWO HOUR video essay and keep me fully enraptured the entire time. Your insights and delivery are truly a cut above. I'm glad we got another entry into your catalog.
HE'S ALIVE AND HIS INTRO IS BETTER THAN EVER. Thank you for all your effort in making these videos, the amount of editing you put into it makes it enjoyable not just to watch but to actually learn about the history of the franchise! Also A+ reaction to the redjacket opening lol
I let out a literal gasp when I saw this was finally uploaded. Can I just say the random jokes you make all always get me. I appreciate how unapologetically yourself you make these videos and it legitimately gives me more courage to be more confident and assertive in social situations! Thank you for being you and thank you for sharing with us!
Your discussion at the end about passing the torch and igniting passions from lost creators, genuinely, brought me to tears. I have no connection to Lupin III but thank you for this video
This video... Actually made me cry, I remember my parents grabbing this film because they saw the name Hayao Miyazaki as the director and thinking it was a ghibli movie and getting it for me, and it opened my eyes to what animation and art could be, that it can always be something more. Thank you for this, even months later after this video's release. 💜
Now that I have watched the whole thing: The way your videos make me feel both strongly secure and at home is an unbelievable experience. I know that when I open up one of your works, while I work on an art piece or an animation or simple in-between steps of a pipeline that I will come out wanting to do more, reach the heights and arts and culture and emotion that you see in every movie and series and franchise you analyse and explain to us. It's unbelievably nice to know that there is one, ONE, person in the big ocean of TH-cam that sees art and optimism instead of all the negativity of current releases. My point being. Your Robin Hood Video is one of my favourites of all time. And this 2h of pure goodness is joining the ranks, too. Thank you for your work. Please take care of yourself, and I can't wait to see what's coming next, whenever that might be :D
I don't know if anyone has said it before but your use of visuals under your script is always so beautifully poetic. I'm glad you finished this video and shared it with us, seeing it on my dash was a delight
The amount of raw emotion in the latter third of this video brought me to tears. The fact that you don't have 30x more subscribers at LEAST is criminal. You put to words thoughts, feelings, and emotions that I personally struggle with every waking moment. You inspire me to persevere and create despite all the negativity I drag myself down with. Thank you, so much, for all you do.
It took me until now to finally get around to watching this landmark essay, ironically because it released when I, too, was still suffering under the boot of Long Covid. Two and a half years of my life burned away, two and a half years of seemingly endless wasted time and effortless loss. I'm better now for the most part, thankfully, but... not the same. I'll never be the same. But I suppose that's the way it's supposed to be, the way it has to be. Time marches on, and we march with it. Anyways, I just want to thank you for always being able to capture the same etherial solace in these videos that lies at the heart of humanity; the feeling that's kept me hopeful for life and love ever since I first recognized it as a kid. Not many things can naturally do so for me, but your work manages to every time. I may not know you personally, but I love you for that. Thanks, Breadsword. Here's hoping to see you around again, soon.
Know what ? That essay was as good as The Castle of Cagliostro itself. I mean, your dedication is so admirable it warmed my heart. And let me reassure you, your hard work paid off at the end. So much that you have just gained a new fan. Considering you also just inspired me to follow my dreams even more, le me give you a big thank you !!!
The section around 1:33:00 about the impact on other creatives makes me think of the quote that floats around about one of the Velvet Underground’s albums (to paraphrase): “not a lot of people bought it, but everyone who did buy it started a band.” Maybe not enough people experienced this movie, but it seems like everyone who did was inspired to create something, too. I love the idea of art perpetuating itself through sheer inspiration. Just a silly thought on this absolute masterpiece of a video.
Breadsword videos always make me cry. It's not sadness, it's not happiness, it's just hope or maybe humanity? It's so apparent the love that you have for the subjects of your videos, the making of them, and your desire to create things for other people to enjoy, and I think those things manifest themselves negatively at times in the way you describe in this and lots of your other videos. I just got out of maybe one of the longest depressive episodes I've had in my life. For something like 6 months every time it felt like I was gonna get out something worse happened. I wasn't enjoying anything, I couldn't sleep, I didn't know what to do or what I would do if theoretically I ever wanted to do anything, which I never did anyways. Either the chemical imbalance in my brain corrected itself or maybe Tears of the Kingdom provided enough dopamine to jumpstart my brain into being happy again and I started fixing what felt like unfixable problems for so long. Today is the end of the first 3 day weekend I've had free of both work and stress concerning the car accident I was in and to celebrate it with a Breadsword video that reminds me that someday I'll be able to do something I'm passionate about, even if life isn't perfect, is something to look forward to. It's apparent to everyone that you're doing everything you can and have the utmost respect for everything you talk about. It was worth the year that it took to make this.
@@AB0BA_69 I'm not sad to be moved by emotions brother. I'm not a stone. You thought you ate showing how insensitive you are, just come off as an edgy kid. Grow up.
@@arcadefever6711 I'm not denying emotions. You can be sad about the really big tragic things happening like death. I'm saying that the bar is now abysmally low for what makes anyone (especially men) emotional or cry. Someone cries over a video review? Yeah, they are a pathetic manchild who has never experienced real adversity in their life.
I never knew until now that someone could make me love one of my favorite films of all time even more. The Castle of Cagliostro is my favorite 2D animated film of all time, and my favorite film directed by Miyazaki. I even named my cat Clarisse after the princess of the film.
Thank you for releasing this video, seriously. The pain behind creating art and putting it in front of an audience is absolutely terrifying, especially when you feel like you not only need to prove something to your audience but also yourself. It's so clear that you pour so much of yourself into your creations, and since these videos are a part of you, your fear of falling short is incredibly understable/relatable; and I am so glad you surpassed that fear and managed to upload this vid. This immense love for the mediums you cover and the joy you get while sharing it with others truly shows, so once again, thanks. Keep doing what you're doing.
About a year ago I went through my first real breakup, it destroyed me for a year. I quit my job. Moved back in with my parents, and basically just sat there waiting for either the end or god knows what. Nothing could motivate me to leave my room. I had even stopped eating some days. Just to depressed to do anything. That is until I saw your treasure planet vid. I really hope this can get upvoted enough for you to see this. But this vid and the gurren lagan vid just hit home so hard that I finally was able to break the cycle. To break from my depressive state. To become myself again. We all find help in the most strangest of places sometimes but I will never regret stumbling upon your chanel. You are the most human and kind person I thin I follow. You seem to get the human condition. We all are lost here and the only guiding light that will see us through is the light of kindness and compassion.
The film is so underrated, I’m truly a fan of Miyazaki’s work, and all of the Japanese animation industry. I believe that Castle Of Cagliostro is one of my favourite works. It’s something about the characters, the landscapes and adventure of this film. And that can be seen in a lot of Miyazaki films, and in that, delivering a message. This film is just amazing, I suggest anyone to watch who adore animation
Man I totally understand the anxiety but you delivered. This is about the production time of a feature length film, you put out a feature length video, it was more entertaining than most movies I’ve seen and most of that came from the passion behind it!
The 48 hours after watching this video were spent diving into Lupin the 3rd, watching the movies and a bunch of episodes and telling everyone I know about how fantastic it is, and its influence. It involved getting them all to watch this too. I don't think anything fake or weak could've ever done that. Your work has consistently been unparalleled, and I'll look forward to it forever!
The ending bit about the long Covid is so real to me, especially as someone who is a writer/creative. Like for weeks after getting it, I couldn’t put together sentences I found coherent. Almost all of my hobbies took a back seat to the brain fog. (I got back to doing the things I love, slowly, and happily but still slowly). Wishing you the best as you continue to create ❤
So glad you're feeling better! I'm grateful that others can relate to that part haha it was definitely such a weird strange period of just "brain go brrrrr" and I'm stoked to be past it :b
You talked a lot about the cars but I find all of the weapons to be incredible as well. A of them were used in ww2 from the famous mg34 and luger, to the rare ppd40. And all of the armor is beautifully illustrated as well. The true passion for the mechanics and weapons of our world is shown in nearly every scene.
Yesss I love the guns too! I had a whole section about it that I ended up taking out bc the runtime was getting too long but Yasuo Otsuka in particular has a super interesting insight into firearms from his time working a bureau job and having field officers show him how they shoot! Super sick how much history knowledge went into Lupin III's development
@@BREADSWORD really good job on the video, this movie is easily up there with my favorite. Thank you so much for sharing your love for the film. It's really sad to see quantity and not quality rewarded on TH-cam when masterpieces like this video existed. Keep up the great work for as long as you want to. You really made my day.
This is a masterpiece. Peak media. Peak editing. Peak philosophy. Peak creator. Banger of a message. No faults at all. Easily best 2 hours I've had on youtube, probably ever. The passion dripping off of every sentence is incredible. Breathtaking video
Been a while since you've released this, but I just have to tell you: your videos, no matter the topic, make me cry in their tender love and care they display towards whatever topic you turn your eyes to. Your doubt is scary, but I am glad you express it, because it shows a sincerity that can be rare among these same groups.
What an absolute masterpiece. Breadsword, I want you to know you bring me more happiness than you'll ever know. Your videos are a blessing from The Holy Light of Creation itself. You have a talent, sir. You can take something that is already beloved and somehow find a way to make it shine brighter than ever. Like polishing a flawless diamond. Honestly, every video you release has brought me to tears at least once. Your soft, somber delivery speaking such eloquently worded phrases... I can't describe the experience it is watching your content. Other long-form video makers I will often put on in the background. But I can't do that, with you. You engage me to no end with your relentlessly interesting context, the pacing making two hours seem like a mere five minutes. Breadsword, I wish I were at a loss for words, but I have so many. You're wonderful, don't you dare ever think that just because something took a while that it means you didn't try your hardest. Your passion and love for the things you talk about is so unquestionable I almost can't comprehend the concept itself. Now don't mind me while I grab your horn and toot the hell out of it, you son of a bitch. You're an amazing writer, an amazing speaker, and an amazing person. You're fucking awesome. As long as you keep finding things to talk about, I'll be here waiting with bated breath. ❤❤❤
I never really understood impostor syndrome until this past year when I felt it myself, so the last part of this video really resonated with me. For your channel it literally doesn't matter how long these projects take to make and release, because we know theyll always be certified bangers
There is always something so melancholic and beautiful about your works that makes me all at once both inspired and forlorn about the world and our place in it. You do not owe us anything but you have given us such brilliant stories in spite of that. Thank you.
Doesn't matter how long it takes, there is nothing like the love, care, attention to detail and passion of a Breadsword video. Phenomenal as always, king. I'm getting on that Patreon come pay day. Well over due ❤️
I've missed you so much my guy, you mean so much for storytellers. I'm so excited to see another breakdown for such a classic, not to mention a work from Miyazaki that was at the start of his career. I don't know another youtube whose as genuine and thoughtful as you, and you've save my life knowing there's someone who thinks and loves stories like you. PLEASE keep doing your beautiful work!!!
I do remember reading comments with people telling him to do this Lupin movie. This was the 1st solo Lupin film I ever saw, the 1st Lupin media I watched was the cross over between him an Deceptive Conan
I watched The mystery of Mamo and Castle of Cagliostro like a billion times on vhs as a kid, as well as the compilation of episodes on 1 vhs tape. I have been wondering what they were called for the longest time. I knew it was Lupin the third, but my memory was foggy of the specific names and details until I saw some footage of it recently. You did a great job with this video, i'm glad I came across it.
1979 was a crazy year for anime. Gundam, Rose of Versailles, and Castle of Cagliostro all were hugely influential works that were released in that year. The talking about the history of Lupin III reminded me about when this stuff was released.
1979 was a good year for cinema overall. On the animated side, we got the movies you mentioned - in the live-action world, we got The Warriors, Alien, Apocalypse Now, Rocky 2, and Star Trek: The Motion Picture. :)
@@OnafetsEnovap although I agree, the anime works I’m talking about are more than just “great tv or movies,” they pretty much set up the next decade or two of anime which would later be dubbed the golden age of anime. Although I would say that Apocalypse Now and Alien are pretty influential although not on the same level of the anime.
I recently rewatched a lot of Miyazaki movies after rewatching a bunch of your video essays - I'm really glad you could share another banger with us, your work has been equal parts inspiring, insightful, humorous, and just disgustingly high-quality (Commenting before finishing bc I know it's already gonna be a hit lmao)
I was so stoked to see this pop up in my feed a day ago that I physically jumped for joy, and man, it so good to hear from you again. The rhythm and cadence of your scripts, the slick nostalgic feel of your edits and intros, the rawness of your personal anecdotes, they form a gorgeous cocktail with an inimitable bouquet and one hell of a buzz. Glad you conquered this magnificent beast of a video, and I hope your health only continues to improve. And if this gets copyright struck again I will travel to the home of Mr. TH-cam himself and release feral pigeons into his foyer, mark my words.
Ok. I couldn't speak enough how great this video is. And that I relate to the struggle at the heart of this production, and the comfort that Lupin can bring. This movie is one of my comfort movies, and well.. This is glorious work. Thank you, Bread.
I extremely, extremely related to your artistic crisis at the end of this one. While I hate that you've had to struggle with that type of agony, I felt incredibly comforted by the fact that you could feel so unsure about a piece of art that from the beginning I was feeling constantly blown away by. This is so, so, so good. I think we both can trust ourselves more to create meaningful work.
You have quickly become my favorite video essayist on TH-cam. The quality you bring from your scripts to your editing is off the charts. Very glad to hear that your health has recovered, and I hope you feel proud of the work that you've done. This video is one of your best so far.
Breadsword, you are one of my favorite creators on this platforms, and I always look forward to your amazingly insightful deep dives. Thank you for all of your hard work
Welcome back bread, your vids have gotten me through some real hard times and have really inspired how I look at art and the art I want to make. It’s amazing to see you upload again, I know the vids gonna go crazy
Every single moment of this video essay is pure bliss. Even the melancholy inner personal bit in the last section, as a lot of your struggles are mirrored in my life atm. I have been struggling to create art for the local community I'm in due to health issues and I feel guilty and left behind due to my health preventing me from participating and creating.
As a hardcore lupin fan, I just want ya to know I think you did an incredible job explaining the soul of this series. Don't know how much that really means to you, but it means a lot to me seeing you put so much passion and care in all of your videos. You're doin great dude, fuckin 10/10 banger yo!
@@BREADSWORD I am honestly surprised you didn't cover CoC before, with all your Miyazaki reviews. CoC was my first Miyazaki film, but one of the last Lupin III content I've seen. It's a magical entry. Miyazaki was stil finding his way whey he was producing the Lupin III part 1 series (athough it definitely had something consistent that to many part 2 episode's didn't have) but his 2 episode's in part 2 and this movie are one of my favorite portrayals of Lupin III.
I think. All I could ever ask is that you try. That's what really reflects some of the most insane, one of a kind moments you give in your retrospectives. What an insane video. Thanks for stickin it out man, I'm so excited for the next one.
I miss you and the love you shine upon my early life and childhood as if you somehow knew me. Please keep giving the things YOU care about the light you think they deserve. You've already earned my trust and devotion. I'll still be here watching the same dozen videos from you even if you never upload again (though I'd love it if you did)
I find that I literally can't help myself from constantly coming back to your videos. You are hands down my favorite creator on youtube, and I can’t even begin to express how much respect I have for you and the amount of effort you put into these videos. You have been hugely inspirational to my own meager attempt at video creation, and I just wanted to say thank you. I know it's been a while since your last upload, but take your time chief. Real fans will always be here waiting for you
you've been a creative inspiration for years, i stumbled upon you in my freshman year and now I have graduated and envy your storytelling skills even more with each passing upload. No matter how much expectation you put on yourself, you can always be assured that your effort and heart put into your videos make them instantly classics that I return to marathon every other week. Thank you for your art and thank you for inspiring me and others to become better artists.
This was an incredible experience. I almost wept at work three times listening to this. The downright exhaustive amount of detail on points and aspects of ananimation I'd never even considered. The obvious care and enthusiasm in the performance. Easily the best video essay I've had the privilege of listening to in my time here on TH-cam. I won't say something grandiose like 'this is your seminal work' but damn if it don't make a strong case for itself. Thank you so much for making this beautiful work of art for others to enjoy and learn from. ❤ Now I better stop typing before I gush too much more. There's a movie I need to watch.
I know what it's like to set up lofty ambitions and expectations and feel like you're not living up to your own standards. I just wanna say that your videos have been a bright point of love and hope in the chaotic world I find myself an unwitting participant in. I've rewatched all of them more times than I can count. I don't care what you make or if you even keep doing it, I just want you to know I see your effort and the care you put into everything you do. You've made me cry over movies I hadn't yet seen, all of which have become personal favorites. You inspire me as a writer and a one piece-esque romantic. I can't wait to see where your career goes.
I am absolutely blown away. This has to be the most wonderful near-2-hours-long love letter to a film I've ever seen. As an unabashed Lupin III fan, I came into this video being all "Hell yeah, let's gooooo!", and then came out of it like "I think I'm gonna cry because my heart is so full of rainbows!". I already love this movie and consider it among my top favorites of all time, but somehow you singlehandedly made my love for Lupin III grow even more, which is saying a lot. I love how beautifully you described the intricate parts that make the whole of this underrated masterpiece, and there were even parts that actually made me choke up a bit because of the raw emotion you put in your writing. No matter what your anxieties may have told you, I'm beyond glad that you pulled through, finished making this, and put it out there. It was absolutely worth it.
God. Like. I wish I could communicate the feelings this has inspired in me after watching. Genuinely you are one of the most passionate creators I have ever come across online. It is a joy to experience the things you put out. I know part of this video is devoted to talking about how nervous you were to put it out and all the hard times you had working to get it done and ready. ON TOP of all the copyright stuff you had to deal with post release. But the love drips from every line. Each video you put out is a distinct part of your soul and I gain so much from every one. I'm amazed at your dedication to this project and could only ever hope to one day create even one thing this monumental much less have a whole catalog of things like this. an inspiration and an icon truly.
like it truly re-ignites my sens of wonder in the world to watch your videos. i have a boring ass office job, but this on a monday morning puts a little fire back in my soul.
You are one of the most beautiful definitions for what a human is. Creating an incredible work of art and then beating yourself up over the fact that it took "too long" to make. Not a lot of beautiful things come to us quickly and I would be lying if I said I didn't get impatient waiting for this to come out but it was entirely worth it. You are the artist and we are the audience and the only thing we can do is see what you have made and form our own opinions on it. Completely useless opinions to anyone other than ourselves which is to say that you shouldn't worry too much about what we think which I know is something easier said than done but it's true. This is all over the place but I do want to say I appreciate that you have made some of the most beautiful works of art I have seen and it is a privilege to have seen them. Thank you.
my brother died july of 2021, and you were easily one of his favorite video essayists - any time a new video would drop, he'd come over to my place at one in the morning and we'd pile up on the couch and watch together. something about this work of yours keeps drawing me back, rewatching it for the fifth or sixth time, and i just know nick would have absolutely loved it. thank you for making this, despite all the pain and anxiety it caused you, for the chance to have a couple hours with my brother again when i need it.
Thanks for the video, I spent a long time waiting for this video to come out, and then saved it in my watch later playlist for 3 months waiting for a rainy day, and it was perfect! Take any time you need to make a video, it'll always be evergreen and worth it! This video got me interested in Lupin III, so I appreciate that.
I haven't seen anyone reference or mention the Pagemaster in literally over a decade of watching untold thousands upon thousands of videos, and of course, it's you that does it. Love your art, you are truly a poet. I'm gonna go watch all of Lupin the Third now.
Every single video I've seen from you absolutely oozes your passion for your craft. The way you express the details of a movie genuinely makes me tear up a bit in kind
You managed somehow to get me tearing up just recapping the film. The love that you have for the film is genuinely moving, and even though I've seen this movie dozens of times you still managed to make me feel like an excited kid again just talking about it
As a artist and a creative myself, the last 15 minutes of this video hit incredibly hard. Looking at one’s own art and not knowing whether it is good enough is a struggle I don’t know if I will ever get over. What I do know is that this video is more than an essay on Lupen the 3rd, it stands as a monument to art itself. From start to finish, this video oozes an amount of quality and care that I’ve not seen in quite a while. Thank you for making this.
Man take all the time you need everything you does slaps mad hard. The tangents and way your out your own feelings and experiences into the works you enjoy makes them all seriously unique and good feeling
I don’t care how many times this video keeps getting taken down then re-uploaded, I’ll still watch it every time and enjoy it cause this video is awesome and you feel every ounce of passion Breadsword put into this video. And the Scooby Doo part still gets me.
This video got me to watch this movie and subsequently plunged me into a three month lupin spree where i could scarcely think of anything else. I always struggle with getting across what I really feel in a comment but I at least had to try. I love when someone's appreciation for something shines so brightly that it's just infectious, and that really shines through here. I showed this movie to so many people after falling in love with it from watching your summary of it alone, and it made some really good memories for me. Thanks for always mixing humor, intelligience and love for the craft with so much sincerity in your videos. Try not to beat yourself up too much about long production times, you're only human!
You never miss somehow, despite your fears about it. Clear words, excellent research, and this full heart towards what you decide to do a topic about. This is super awesome, I gotta now watch Lupin myself! And dig out that old dvd of this particular movie too.
My dude this was a wonder, I admire you so much for the work and effort you put into all of your vids. It doesn't matter to me how long you take on one of these because I know I'm gonna enjoy it. I come back to this channel almost constantly for the comfort of sharing love for works of art, with gorgeous insights and passion poured into every single frame. It's so easy to say, take care of your health, but there's still a guilt that comes with a lack of productivity. We constantly hear that our worth is reliant on what we do, and it's such bullshit. Whether you're writing a script or watching a comfort show for the seventeenth time in a fugue state at 3am, you're still beautiful. Thank you for sharing that with us
I adore all of BreadSword’s videos. This one especially! I always get excited whenever a new video drops and I love coming back to them and discovering more things to love about some of my favorite pieces of media. I love having these videos on in the background while I’m playing Minecraft or drawing. They are delightful, thoughtful and they warm my soul through the writing and emotion in the way the scripts are read. That said; I hope BreadSword goes to therapy. So many of his wonderful, creative and intellectual videos are layered with a hurt that can only be his own. And for as much as heartache and sorrow can breed art, I hope he gets the help he needs. I hope he finds a way to realize in his own heart that he is valid. His art (as that is what these videos are) is beautiful. That he is intrinsically worthy of taking up space and creating and being appreciated both for his craft and just as another lover of media and art. I hope you’re okay, BreadSword.
Breadsword swooping in with a 2 hour video about Lupin III. We call that an instant classic. Edit: Finished the whole thing. Might be crying. Now have the sudden desire to rewatch the entire Lupin III franchise and reflect on my place in the world and the art I create idk
Genuinely one of, if not my favorite video essayist on TH-cam. Insightful, entertaining, emotional, and relatable. Your optimism and takes on legacy are genuinely inspiring. Fantastic video, my dude!
Bro spent half a year built up all this pressure and pain and at the end still released it and it’s everything I could’ve wanted and more these videos have always emanated the warmth and comfort you have for what you’re talking about they’ve always brightened hard times and I’m forever grateful. To summarise you made your own detox and still dropped it. I’m so proud
Your work is inspiring and you are easily one of the most well spoken essayists I’ve ever watched/heard/read. Thank you so much for the time you put into these scripts and videos and know that your work is not for nothing❤
26:55 In France, the country of origine of Arsène Lupin, Lupin III was renamed to "Edgar de la Cambriole", to avoid lawsuits, and it's the funniest name ever, in french cambrioler means to burglarize, so Lupin became Edgar of the Burglary in France
You took 8 months to make this video because you felt you needed to give Lupin III, and more importantly, everyone who had a hand in creating it, the effort and love it deserves... I waited 3 months to watch this video because I wanted the atmosphere I watched it in to be perfect, so I could give you and your work the respect you deserve. You're an artist, you seem like a really cool dude, and you're a real one. Take your time, we'll be here when it's ready. I hope you're happy, because you make me happy. Have a good one.
There’s a part of me that resonates with your work. As someone else said, it feels like soul food, but I think it’s the passion of it. Something about that passion, your whole heart out in these videos, hits such a chord that it grabs hold and makes you feel like you just sat through both a biography and a cinematic treasure each time. It’s the reason I backed you on Patreon and haven’t left. It’s the reason why even though I’m a perpetual lurker at times due to my own mental states, I still make time for your work. I make time for how you inspire me, how you remind me of the passion, intelligence, and compassion given into each piece. Just like running big circles in the sand, some things, some feelings, are a fixed point in our minds. Just like that, some people help remind us of it. I may not personally know you, but I feel I understand you, in so many ways that matter. Thank you once more, friend.

hey uhhhh just so you know, since you said you were using it out of respect, you straight up mispronounced Kato's name over and over and over. If you see the letter "a" in a japanese name, it's pronounced "ah" not "ay" every time. the "ay" sound would typically only come from "e" or "ei". it's especially glaring considering how much effort you put into correctly pronouncing names from other languages, tbh

@@BREADSWORD Ok now that I'm off work and had time to watch through the whole thing: holy shit was this worth the wait. Thank you for everything. This was phenomenal, I love to hear all the little information that I would've never found out about some of my favorite works. You did it with robin hood, you did it with howls, you did it with a bug's life, lion king, and again here. Thank you for all your efforts.
A fantastic dive into one of the most influential and important media franchises in animation history. I've always had a cursory knowledge about Lupin III's influence on media but today I learned that what I knew was barely the tip of the iceberg. Thanks for another amazing video essay for me to add to my regular rotation of rewatches.
An artist who’s canvas is the imagination of his listeners, whether it took half a year or a decade, your work brings me to tears, el dorado, treasure planet, scooby doo and fucking tintin!? All perfection. Lupin the third isn’t something I’ve ever been exposed to before, but your passion has pushed me to take a step into its colourful canon. thank you for your work, it’s dedication is really a monument to the legacy of all these works and is greatly appreciated
Tips for anyone trying to have a Ghibli movie marathon, watch the Castle of Cagliostro along with it. It’s effectively the prototype to what would be.

no kidding, i just refreshed my youtube subscriptions page, saw the video, and my jaw dropped, coupled with me internally screaming "A NEW BREADSWORD?!"

Lame ass line. Literally the worst line in an otherwise golden script

Now that I have watched the whole thing:
The way your videos make me feel both strongly secure and at home is an unbelievable experience.
Please take care of yourself, and I can't wait to see what's coming next, whenever that might be :D
aaaa thank you so much!
Here's hoping to see you around again, soon.
so thrilled to hear you're feeling better and I'm super grateful for the kind words!
@@BREADSWORD Hell yeah, Breadsword! Glad you saw them.
Such a true quote! Love love love Velvet Underground and absolutely see the throughline re: creative impact. Also thank you
Breadsword videos always make me cry.
This man's essays have squeezed more tears out of me than I care to admit.

I can’t believe it’s been almost a whole year since this video. Hoping to hear you again in the future❤
Breadsword and Lupin the 3rd. The crossover I didnt know I wanted is HERE ❤🎉
The ending bit about the long Covid is so real to me, especially as someone who is a writer/creative.

I extremely, extremely related to your artistic crisis at the end of this one.
Thank you.
Always a great year when Bread casually returns after a year

my brother died july of 2021, and you were easily one of his favorite video essayists - any time a new video would drop, he'd come over to my place at one in the morning and we'd pile up on the couch and watch together. something about this work of yours keeps drawing me back, rewatching it for the fifth or sixth time, and i just know nick would have absolutely loved it. thank you for making this, despite all the pain and anxiety it caused you, for the chance to have a couple hours with my brother again when i need it.
Damn, finally this underrated masterpiece getting some love. Hopefully more people give it a shot now.
fr Cagliostro truly the biggest banger of all time
So glad you finally covered this underrated gem of a movie!
And the Scooby Doo part still gets me.
yooo thank you sm!
@@BREADSWORD You’re welcome!
You genuinely have to give me a playlist of the intro/ intermittent/ outro tracks you use. It's an endlessly addictive vibe I crave.
You never miss somehow, despite your fears about it. Clear words, excellent research, and this full heart towards what you decide to do a topic about. This is super awesome, I gotta now watch Lupin myself! And dig out that old dvd of this particular movie too.
thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing that with us
Holy crap, this genuinely blew me away, the editing and the sound and the genuineness of everything was just beautiful, I’m definitely glad your back
Every time I decide to watch one of your videos on a topic I enjoy, you make me enjoy that subject a million times more.
That said;
I hope BreadSword goes to therapy.
We miss you and still think about you.❤
yet another beautiful love letter to art and passion. your essays bring me joy, and i'm glad you're back.
Have a good one.
ive watched this video hundreds of times since its dropped. truly one of the best videos on the internet. hope youre well bread💕
Thank you once more, friend.
this vid got blocked like 3 hours after it dropped and was just un-blocked a week later so sorry if the re-up is confusing :b

hey uhhhh just so you know, since you said you were using it out of respect, you straight up mispronounced Kato's name over and over and over. If you see the letter "a" in a japanese name, it's pronounced "ah" not "ay" every time. the "ay" sound would typically only come from "e" or "ei". it's especially glaring considering how much effort you put into correctly pronouncing names from other languages, tbh
@@bixmcgoo5355 lmfaooo good catch! I was mostly just going off of what I'd heard other English speakers pronounce it as when they introduced him in older interviews/panels but it's def my bad for not double checking
@@BREADSWORD yeah i get it, and it could be worse lol, there are tons of people who say "studio jibbly" and you don't so it's clear you don't skimp out on effort lol
omg i missed you so much..
we getting twitch bread streams back? 🥺
You were the one that ended up convincing me that yes, spending money to own this was a good idea, since I wanted to watch a lupin film just based on the recent one, and holy crap you were right. This is icing on that cake.
ayyyyyyy let's go!

Ok now that I'm off work and had time to watch through the whole thing: holy shit was this worth the wait. Thank you for everything. This was phenomenal, I love to hear all the little information that I would've never found out about some of my favorite works. You did it with robin hood, you did it with howls, you did it with a bug's life, lion king, and again here. Thank you for all your efforts.
Been having a rough few days, here you are, relaxing the hell out of me.
Missed you like crazy.
