The car I have now is the first one I've owned with a timing chain and I'm Glad I hated stressing out about it afraid it would snap I'm glad to hear car manufacturers are moving away from timing belts but engines nowadays are plastic still plenty of things to brake and keep me broke good for Alex the car doc tho
There was a famous issue with Audi TT's from the late 90ies thru 2012 ish where the 1.8 liter engines had timing belt maintenance intervals of around 110k miles, where it should have been around that same number in kilometeres or so. They later updated it to 60k miles on those. Lots and lots of failures on those. Also remember to do those water pumps ;)
Toyota and Honda being reputable reliable vehicles were obsessed with timing belts in the past,I'm glad they done away with it and put timing chains which never needs to be replaced as long as you keep up with the oil change interval
Alex, I'm trying to change the timing belt on my Volvo 2.0t and can't get the center vibration damper bolt and 4 triple square bolts using a breaker bar any recommendations?
You milked that guy that timing belt would have gone at least another 40k miles

Dealership charges $1,800 to replace the timing belt; $586 to replace the serpentine belt and $596 to replace the lower engine mount
Did you have to use a cam locking tool for the volvo?
No I worked my way around it,if you are not that familiar with timing vehicles I recommend using the appropriate tools

You may have to heat them up using a torch get the yellow bottle not the blue one the yellow one burns hotter
150k miles recommended intervel?
Hello Alex, did you replace the water pump or do you need to? Reagrds, Michael
Hey there buddy if the timing belt runs the water pump then yes, highly recommend you replace it but if it’s drive belt driven you don’t have to
That belt didn't have cracks....those are suface cracks.....those are 150k mile intervals on those Volvos. The pulleys will go out before the belt.
Your voice reminds me Chris broussard from ESPN
I’d have to look him up lol never heard of him.
My timing belt lasted 150k
