Kitchari With Coconut Chutney & Smoked-Herring || Eat ah Food + Taste of Trini

In this video, I teamed up with Ornella from Eat ah Food to demonstrate how to make Kitchari with Coconut Chutney and Smoked-Herring Choka. Kitchari/Kitchri/Kichdi is a cook-up rice (similar to pelau) made with a combination of rice and split-peas (dhal).
Ornella also taught me how to make her Coconut Chai recipe, which was so spicy and delicious. It was the perfect accompaniment to the dish.

Back in the day, when my mom made coconut chutney it was job to grind the coconut on a sill. I've never seen made by grating it before or that chunky. Also, when something had plenty pepper we use to say it's hot, funny how the vernacular has changed and now it's "spicy". Progress matches on....
