My favorite feature of the design, which I didn't hear mentioned, is the songbird above the gong, with the red indicator as the beak and the hammer as the tail feathers. So fitting given the complication, and it's subtle but once you see it you can't unsee it. I have the Nero ordered for July - I can't wait!
@@TeddyBaldassarre Thanks, Teddy! I've been watching your content ever since I got into watch collecting a few years ago, and I'm a big fan of the work you do! You've been a huge help to me along the way, so it's an honor to have called your attention to this little detail.
Simply Sublime that Christopher Ward has not put his name on the Watch or any other cheap intrusions on the Dial but just their Logo on the Crown ,perfection.
I haven't ordered a new watch from a manufacturer in a long time. When I saw Watchfinder's first video on this I immediately put myself on the wait list, and mine comes in this June. If this is the direction we want companies to go, with out of the box thinking and incredible value, then the modest collectors among us need to support the companies that are making this level of watch feasible for mere mortals. Can't wait to get mine.
Congrats Brandon. Which colour did you get? I was disappointed when it was initially a limited release, but glad they are selling it permanently and keeping the originals exclusive.
I have been dying to see CW come up in one of your shopping shoot off videos with Kevin. Love their cases, bracelets, consistency, design and overall value. This Bel Canto is so great to see from them!
Thank you for another great video, Teddy! You do such a great job of covering and exploring watches. I'm a long time CW fan, and I personally own the blue dial version of this, and it's my favorite watch. It's been amazing to see how far CW have come, and to see their rise in the watchmaking space. It's going to be really exciting to see what they make next!
Finally! Love these great pieces. CW is the sweet spot for many of a watch that is within reach, yet has a lot of the luxury features enthusiasts want. The CW fan groups are growing and its no surprise.
I own two Christopher Wards and like them a lot. The Bel Canto is a very impressive achievement, even though I am a tool watch guy and this is not my watch. And good for Teddy for giving kudos to a watch company that competes with his and for favorably reviewing a watch that he cannot sell. One mystery to me is why the company keeps the Christopher Ward name after the co-founder left to help his three sons start Tribus, a competing watch company. They may be moving away from the name, since CW's newer watches replaced the name on the dial with the twin flags logo. Just as Wilsdorf and Davis became Rolex a decade after their founding, CW needs to consider doing the same. They are good at naming watches, so I am confident that they could come up with a fine name.
I recently bought my first watch from Christopher Ward having first heard of the brand in one of Teddy's reviews & wanting to support a British maker as I am from the UK - I love wearing my C60 chronograph & I now also have the C1 Morgan 3 Wheeler Chronometer which is a lovely contrast. I have been watching the reviews of the Bel Canto & I am so glad that Teddy took the time to give us his view - I am new to the watch collecting "disease" and he is the best source of balanced, unbiased information that I have found. I may have to put one on order - a year to wait so can save the rest up! Keep up the great work Teddy
I was lucky or fast enough to get the first limited edition of the blue one. Teddy your images of the watch are stunning, but having the watch in your hands is way better. I absolutely love my watch and I never had so many questions from strangers about a watch I am wearing! Love your videos Teddy!
I was early enough in the game to buy the watch. The green was sold out but there were some blue left. I passed for two reasons: (1) the dial lacked contrast and given its small size appeared difficult to read, and (2) the mechanics seemed complicated and given it's proto-type status and the relatively obscure name of the manufacturer, I was concerned about reliability and the difficulty of repair and maintenance. Hope these issue were my imagination and you continue enjoy your watch. Cheers!
I'm really curious about your sense of depth on the dial. I love when watches are able to give that impression. It pulls you in, like great photography composition. MB&F really seems to do this well. It seems like Chris Ward nailed that here as well. I ordered the black dial version because I suspect it'll help accentuate that sense of depth, as it will contrast significantly with the bridges and works above. Hope we start seeing new innovations at more attainable price points from all brands! Torbillions, thin perpetuals, split chronographs, etc.
Teddy as usual a good review. I first saw this watch a week ago. And order one to be delivered February 2024. You didn’t mention they are limited editions (300 I think). First edition is a blue dial… Second is a green dial. Now there are a variety of options. Also, there is no logo or markings on the dial. As you mentioned an awesome value especially once you know who has contributed to the final product.
Nice review Teddy. Give props due where props are due. Christopher Ward absolutely hit it out of the park with this watch. So innovative and creative, but at a price point the average working man can obtain. Well done CW.
I am lucky enough to live close enough to CW to visit, which I did last week, super company, super people, super watches. I went to see the Bel Canto, as you say it is wonderful. So I ordered one, and also walked out having bought another very different, but equally unique watch that I had somehow missed on their web site. Thank you for your review .
Thank you teddy, I always see and learn so much about watches that I wouldn't otherwise, and this watch I find truly special and will look into it further, as always love from switzerland
Thanks teddy for this video.. I am currently doing my research for my first high end watch to get when I go to Switzerland later this year. Your videos have given a confidence that I know I have made the right decision when the time comes. This Christopher Ward watch is beautiful and I have fallen in love with it.
This is the watch that got me back into being a watch enthusiast. I've always owned watches since the 80s and 90s but fell out of touch in my thirties. I was working too hard. But I saw this watch before it came out on a special preview on some channel and it the me into a frenzy of researching watches again. I'm now collecting and servicing my own watches. It was all due to my interest in this watch. I still don't have one though.
Great video Teddy I pre ordered the purple bel canto around Xmas and had my email say I’ll be receiving my watch no later than July 2023 also got it on bracelet…love the watch can’t wait to wear it. Also price point is amazing hopefully can get the purple strap from them to match also asap
I love your work Teddy, it is unique and delivered with such knowledge and passion. I am in the UK so will struggle to use your retail brand unfortunately, I find the end to end process of watch buying very personal so I would love to come and meet you in person some day and make a purchase. I will however, continue to listen to and watch all your great and informative content so please keep it coming. I received my original blue limited edition Bel Canto in February having ordered it in November 2022. I have to say that I really do like it and it sits perfectly in my small collection alongside my Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean GMT and Seamaster Aqua Terra (Skyfall Blue 41mm) on although it is an entirely different proposition, it is in no way inferior to that of my way more expensive Omegas and is full of character and a great talking point if ever anybody notices it, hear it they do. I primarily bought it for the chime as it is both different and a lovely noise, as well as the fact that I was never going to be able to afford a Patek repeater.
Hey Teddy 👋 Thank you so much for the quality of these videos. I would be keen to see a top 10 of your favourite gold tone watches under 10k. There is no so many great videos out there on this! Thanks
Absolutely amazing. Great review. It just shows how ingenuity and hard work can deliver incredible results for a fraction of the price we would normally expect.
So glad you did this video Teddy. Thanks! The Bel Canto isn't my taste either, I'm glad it exists. I bought their newly redesigned Trident Pro 300 recently and love the watch. Please add it to your next video on micro-brand watches.
Thanks Teddy! It is fair from you to show this amazing watch (currently on my wrist) that your company can not sell. As always, your videos are accurate, unbiased and very interesting. Thanks for what you do for watch enthousiasts
Have been a fan/customer of this brand for a few years now, i agree with what you said, groundbreaking, quality control could be better though, noticed a few problems in your clse shots.
The bel Canto is a beautiful engineered time piece. I didn’t knew about the songbird detail, i can’t unsee it anymore. I really like the Cristopher Ward watches and I have one in the collection (C60 Trident Pro 300 white dial) the quality / finish is very good for the price. My daily watch was the Breitling Aerospace but now my CW Trident stole that position 😂.
Nice video - definitely an innovative and stunning watch. Like (probably) everyone else watching this video, I was immediately taken by this piece - the style, the tech, the buzz. But since the launch, my thoughts have changed: 1) Is this complication desirable? Not for me. As much as I love the form and tech, I don't want a chiming hour sound on my wrist. My Casio can beep at the hour, but I always keep that off. It would be obnoxious to have a dress watch chime at the office all day long, and it would be annoying at night. So, I probably wouldn't take advantage of this complication ever. This watch does not offer me something I don't already have access to and have chosen to reject. 2) I don't believe this will open the flood gates for lower-priced brands moving into high complications. As you noted, if CW really understood the costs and timing better beforehand, they would not have created this piece - that means the business case is not there. AND CW had first mover advantage. There is an argument to be made for the halo effect (that it brings visibility that can drive down-market sales), but that's a tough sell for lower-priced independents being asked to make a multi-year, large capital investment. Swatch can probably pull it off with some of their mid/low tier brands. However, I'm sure some brands will see this as a marketing success and follow. That being said, I commend CW for doing something as innovative as this watch, and it has certainly made me take a closer look at the brand - which I knew very little about before this launch.
I'm so glad that you reviewed this watch, but I wasn't able to wait for the video before ordering one for myself! What's interesting for me was that when it was first released, I thought "wow, I'm really glad that this exists, but it's just not for me." Then I kept looking for more reviews and videos...but, nah, still not for me. Then the green dial came out, and I started to feel upset that I had missed the run...but, I mean, I wasn't going to actually buy one though, right? Not for me. Then the new dials came out and it took about 3 minutes before I put a down-payment on the ice blue dial. This watch is *definitely* for me 😁
The thing is that making one of these is probably 1-2k but most brands want a crap ton of profit and sell something like this for multiples of this price. CW is smart in their marketting as they know lowering prices will make big youtubers catch on and advertise their products.
Long standing fan of Christopher Ward. I own six of their watches, the first purchased in 2008 and the most recent a few months ago. Each has been a highly reliable, durable, and accurate timepiece. And like most observers I'm impressed by the technical achievement represented by the Bel Canto. With all that in mind, I have to admit that I find the Bel Canto to be a hideous object. The first time I saw a photo of the dial I was reminded of a grinning cyclops. I've never been able to "un-see" that. To each his/her own, of course. The Bel Canto is a masterpiece of value engineering. I just hope CW won't give up producing more attractive watches.
@TeddyBaldassarre Thank you so much for how you cover what you cover...from high high end to price ranges where people just starting out can consider a purchase as well! Just saw your review today (and a few weeks ago ordered my own Bel Canto!). I was wondering...you mention in this video you "would even consider getting one" though it was not your style. Have you chosen to pick one up?
As a collector for me a watch has to have something interesting about it. So many watches look the same and don't stand out. Sure they might have the highest quality but if they don't look interesting then I don't like it. This watch is lovely to look at and the sound they have engineered to come out of the chime is fantastically addictive. I would have this in a heart beat. Teddy, have you purchased one?
The Bel Canto shows there is great promise in CW and what they are capable of designing and delivering. Thanks, Teddy, for a great video highlighting the BC. I’d like to own one some day.
I just yesterday learned about the MeisterSinger Bell Hora. Decided to revisit this video again (third time now!?). I’d be interested in seeing a comparison video between the two, or maybe a list of watches in the same price range with this exact complication (sonnerie au passage). I’m thinking of getting one, but can’t seem to find any others?
I have an order placed for the Cielo, coming in December. An incredible piece from CW, given its price point. I can’t wait to get my hands on mine in December. Another amazing video as usual, Teddy.
The most beautifully designed and unique gmt ive ever seen. My one issue is we already have enough black dial watches, im never going to turn to a microbrand for a monochrome colored watch, i want something different, fun, colors!
I bought a Christopher Ward watch back in 2015, before my watch journey had really begun. Since then I have moved on to the usual higher end brands and a couple of exotic pieces and hadn’t given C W a thought since. Well, that has all changed with the release of the Bel Canto - I have paid my deposit and hope to have it by the end of the year. In my opinion this is an almost irresistible value offering which I hope shakes up the complacency of some of the more prestigious brands. On another note, my old CW which has been in a draw for years (quartz movement) is till running on its original battery and is telling the correct time!
the best watch in this price range, CW Belcanto gets it right in every way possible: size, weight, dial, feature, sound. A marvel of modern day watch where 99% of them either look like a Sub or look like each other. Love it CW, keep going in this direction !!!!
Kudos to Teddy for giving a glowing review for a watch he can’t sell. It shows integrity and honesty.
Teddy’s got tons of that!
Does it? How do you know he's not getting a kick back from the maker?

@TeddyBaldassarre Thank you so much for how you cover what you cover...from high high end to price ranges where people just starting out can consider a purchase as well! Just saw your review today (and a few weeks ago ordered my own Bel Canto!). I was wondering...you mention in this video you "would even consider getting one" though it was not your style. Have you chosen to pick one up?
Can’t wait for mine to arrive later this year 😊
Great to see CW featured on the channel. I can’t say the BC is for me but I am a proud Sealander C63 owner.
I’ve ordered this in black! ❤️
Well said Teddy…well said
This is an amazing piece, wow.
My one issue is we already have enough black dial watches, im never going to turn to a microbrand for a monochrome colored watch, i want something different, fun, colors!
cover more CW please! i'd love to see your thoughts on their current LE in-house offering.
Have this on pre-order hopefully arrives in Oct. Happy bday to me
hey Teddy long time fan here, keep up the great work! Would love to hear your thought on the Christopher Ward Twelve 🔥my fav is white
Great video!
the best watch in this price range, CW Belcanto gets it right in every way possible: size, weight, dial, feature, sound. A marvel of modern day watch where 99% of them either look like a Sub or look like each other. Love it CW, keep going in this direction !!!!
It’s spectacular, it’s a game changer. I’d love to own one and this is a great review.
That was interesting and I did like the apt comparison with the achievement of Roger Bannister. But I would have liked to hear the chime itself 🙂.
