"unbreakable couple" LOL. You do have a point though, because no matter if you defend a castle or engage in battles on the adventure map you do have both these creatures on your hero. So, valid point :)
hehe, one of my favorite creatures cause I'm a defensive type of player (Tazar / Mephala / Neela / dendroids / titans / hydras / unicorns / dread knights / naga queens are my favorite things in Heroes 3)
Slow factrions with high level archers seem to be losing merely on the basis of not being able to shoot with their archers. The only exeption (that proves the rule) is dungeon - both of the archers have no melee penality.
yep. Whenever my friend would beat me some 15-16 years ago when we played this game weekly in "internet cafe" type of clubs I would get pissed and play Rampart (Mephala or Ryland all the way, because we made a rule to never pick logistics specialists because they're cheat heroes).... So, I would pick Mephala or Ryland (usually Mephala cause I LOVE armorer) and would teleport my dendroids (when their turn to act came) near his (usually) Archangels or Titans and there's little he could do against this strategy because dendroids die awfully HARD on armorer specialist, especially since my friend rarely played offense specialists (he was a fan of Castle / Necro / Tower factions, and he'd usually play Sir Mullich / Tyris / Isra / Lord Haart / Neela).... So, teleport the dendroids near his stronger creature (Archangel or Titan) and from that moment the win was easy for me. Kind of lame, I know, but so is getting butchered all the time by cheat towns (Castle and Necro), so you gotta fight fire with fire :p
No matter, what I try, I cannot defeat Rampart with stronghold. In first move, you lose all wolf riders, gold dragons just smack them. Then pegasai kills like 30% of orc chieftains. All Rampart units are pretty strong, 800 dendroids are crazy, they are strong with stats, and have +33% production. pegasai have also +200 population for nothing. Dwarfs are pretty tanky. Centaurs are best tier 1 unit. And elves are crazy strong, you just cannot get to them, cause stronghold have no fast unit. Basically, you begin fight without tier 2 unit, wolfriders, and without 33% orcs. You just don't have enough power in army, all you have are behemots, but they get owned by elves, are tied up by dendroids. Cyclops are always blocked by eighter dragons or pegasai. So your tier 6 unit do half damage. And there are unicorns... no matter what, they blind some of your units, separating even rest of army. goblins fall basically after 2 attacks too. So you have only ogres, behemots and thunderbirds left for whole battle. But one of these unit almost always got blinded by unicorns, which are pretty tanky, and even in small numbers are blinding your units, still possessing thread, even 20 unicorns are still quite influental, you need to sacrifice attack on them, to finish them to 0, or they keep blinding your units. You need to avoid dendroid, or they bound your units, of course eighter thunderbirds or behemots. And one more think, whole battle you are limited, to not put 2 units together, or gold dragons go for double damage. This often cause you, that one of your unit cannot go for no-retaliation unit, because, there is no more room around that unit, without beign double-damaged, so you need to go to new unit, and thus, being retaliated. You are in so much disadvantage in this battle, that to win with stronghold, you need really luck (unicorns put no blind whole battle, and terrain placement will go against rampart). Yet didnt find any strategy.
in this scenario (AI vs AI) you are right. Well, you are right anyway because in reality Rampart is indeed stronger than Stronghold, but... there's a reason Stronghold have 2 heroes with offense specialty. The lack of HPs for Stronghold's creatures is compensated by the increase in damage the remaining creatures deal under the offense specialists. And let's not forget that Stronghold usually gets behemots, thunderbirds and ogre way faster than Rampart gets dragons, which helps, too because, as you can see even in these AI vs AI scenarios, the last standing Stronghold creatures are indeed the ogres, thunderbirds, and behemoths. So, in a normal game Stronghold does have their chances against Rampart, because most likely when you engage in a fight the enemy won't have the annoying dendroids on their main hero due to their slow speed crippling the hero's movement on the adventure map. And that's another aspect that Stronghold players can capitalize on
@@blabla-rg7ky Yes, you right. But for defence of towns, they have dendroids. And also, rampart has better magic. I still see stronghold in disadvantage. They should make some of their units little bit stronger, for example wolf riders could have more HP, and cyclops should have no melee penalty.
@@warrax111 these changes are only good if they remove Crag Hack, otherwise CH will be the only hero played and will guarantee 100% win against anyone. If they remove CH, sure, the wolfies could use some more HPs, and also the cyclopes should definitely have no melee penalty
There is one more thing about real scenario that actually goes against Stronghold. The first three units are bellow average overall. Especially massively bellow average in terms of staying alive. That doesn't go well with early expansion and especially with winning small battles with zero casualties. And since the first strong unit is super slow, it doesn't seem they have such a great movement advantage over Rampart after all. The 100 week growth is a nice theoretical scenario. But in a real world scenario, in 100 weeks the Stronghold army would probably be without Hobgoblins and Wolf Riders because almost everything kills them in one shot, so they would be killed from previous combats. Also, the Stronghold army would probably have massively reduced number of Orcs and Thunderbirds. Orcs are targeted by every shooter in every combat and are sniped by castle towers. And Thunderbirds are usually focused down in important combats with losses. Their speed and flying gives them so much utility that the enemy wants to get rid of them first. There is no way Ogres and Behemoths who are the toughest can kill all your enemies fast enough to prevent losses. Especially since terrain works against them almost always - Behemoths for being big and unable to fly, and Ogres for being slow and unable to fly. And yeah, I also think Cyclops should have No Melee Penalty. At least it would justify their building being so expansive. And it makes sense from the fantasy perspective. They are supposed to be huge, have superior physical strength... and they smack you with a boulder that is probably 100 times heavier than you. How are they having a penalty? Friggin frail Mages, Enchanters and Zealots don't have a melee penalty, but a mythical half-giants do?
@@ShadowTheHedgehogCZ I agree with you. Especialy with cyclops. They were also strong melee attackers in Homam 1-2. Even with paralyze and 2 square attack. They should have other animation, when attacked by melee, they could let boulders on the ground and attack with that cool laser attack from homam 2. So no melee penalty, and chance for paralysing. This would be reasonable upgrade for stronghold. Original cyclops should be without paralyze, and upgraded would have even chance for paralyse.
yep. Rampart is one of the my favorite towns (along with Fortress and Conflux) and whenever my friend beat me in hotseat games some 15-16 years ago I'd get pissed and pick Mephala and teleport the dendroids near his strongest creature (usually Archangel or Titan cause he was a fan of Castle and Tower and he'd play these 2 factions often), and there was nothing he could do about it. I would win most of those fights and I didn't even need to cast slayer because dendroids on Mephala (especially in late games like we used to play where we'd fight in month 11-12) would outlast all other creatures on the battlefield because: high HPs + high numbers + high defense + armorer specialty of Mephala + high level of Mephala (usually level 40-50). Oh, the fun I've had using my lovely trees :)
me, too. Stronghold is a fun and easy town to play, and still strong if you know how to play it well. But it would be boring if it wasn't for these small details (ogre's bloodlust casting, or thunderbird's lightning bolt). With a few exceptions Heroes 3 is pretty balanced overall, but I still think there's room for improvement and 4 of the things I'd like to see improved are 1) increase Thunderbird's lightning chance (or damage) by 5-10%... 2) reduce Ghost Dragon's aging ability to 15% instead of 20% but make it uncurable / undispellable.... 3) decrease necromancy to 15% at max level (instead of 30%). This will still give Necropolis the advantage but it will also make it more balanced.... 4) nerf the fucking Castle faction cause it's too fucking strong. At least lower the stats of the Archangel for fucks sake, by 5 (attack, defense, damage, etc.) and its speed by 1-2, also remove the morale bonus, too. Even with these adjustments Castle will still be strong enough to win most battles, but at least you give other factions a fair chance of winning
not sure if Stronghold too weak, or Rampart too strong. Well, I know that Rampart is a strong town, but I hoped Stronghold would do better than this. I'm disappointed with it to be honest
The series itself is really interesting and enjoyable but I think AI will never equal pure skill which could outmaneuver the advantages of potentially stronger towns. E.g. AI notoriously ignores the powerful dendroids because of their low speed and focuses on the one-shootable faster units instead. Nevertheless, I find H3 a little imbalanced because some tier 7 units (Archangels, Gold Dragons or Titans) are just too op and they could wipe out the whole army by themselves. Waiting for Castle v. Cove to see if Haspids are able to destroy Archs with they sick ability.
haspids are even a bigger cheat than Archangel (I've seen proof in a video where the haspids literally defeated ALL creatures, upgraded and unupgraded)
I'm honestly NOT surprised that the Rampart has won in both cases, even if it's the (stupid) AI playing. Rampart has always had strong creatures (the dendroids are tanky as fuck), while the elves, dragons and unicorns can do quite some damage, themselves. Moreover, with the exception of the monkeys and the ogres, the barbarian's creatures are pretty weak overall. Only the wolves do some nice damage, but they die faster than even centaurs. But the firebirds, orcs, and hobgoblins are a joke of a creature, and the cyclops... well, block them and they're useless. I actually feel sorry for the monkeys. The entire Stronghold faction relies on their strength. Once they're gone not even Crag Hack with all its offense can do squat against 8 dendroids per week keeping you in place while the Grand Elves butcher you from afar :)
I think that concludes how pathetic stronghold is.... reason why they did it this way is unknown to me. My guess is that stronghold was suppoused to be the fastest, becouse 1-3 level units are cheap and weak, while higher levels are quite strong and expensive. In paradox rampart is fast. Just compare elves to orcs (I think there were times when wolrd championship was won mainly by elves). Orcs dont even have no mele penalty, and they are using axes - weapon designed to be cheap and efective agains other mele comabatants. Necro is preety fast too, and fairly powerfull at latter creature levels.
+Noniii 92.... to be honest Stronghold got butchered even when they gave the Behemots bonus damage, so I'd imagine they'd get r4ped even harder without the bonus. So, don't bother redoing the battle :)
neither specialty mattered in these battles, though, because - as I recall from other video where I addressed this particular topic - OP removed all skills from the heroes before battles started, thus no hero could make use of their specialties
Dendroid and dwarf are the unbreakable couple, no one can stands again them even the badass behemoth
he kills them eventually , since behemoths destroy tanks like fortress gorgons, however, the were stalled long enough.

Dendroid the executioner. Again.
they do well in all out games, when you are forced to deal with them in a large army.

Behemoth focusing dwarfs...
any particular reason you changed the creature positions for Rampart?

because if behemoths attack the gold dragons then stronghold wins
