A-ha, one of the most brilliant underrated bands ever! Hunting High And Low, Stay On These Roads, I've Been Losing You, Cry Wolf, The Blood That Moves The Body, Sycamore Leaves, Scoundrel Days, The Swing Of Things, Love Is Reason, We're Looking For The Whales, Touchy (Video version), Velvet, Summer Moved On (Live at the Valhall is the best version!!!) and the most successful solo song by Morten Harket: A Kind Of Christmas Card... ...just to mention a few of their greats!

Hello Dereck, finally subscribed! I've discovered you when you reacted to Dimash and I'm happy to see you reacting and enjoying my fave band! I've been an a-ha fan since day 1 when I was only 11. It is surely one of the most underrated band. They have wrongly been categorized as a teen pop band. To me their best songs are for most non hit singles ones as those released as singles were made to be more commercial. To me a-ha is melancholic rock, profound lyrics, strings... and I defenitely have my favorites of them : Cold as Stone (from Memorial beach album) and East of the sun (from East of the sun west of the moon album). Both songs are masterpieces to me and I would love to see you react to them although they are not singles so there's no video (unless live but I would recommend listening to the album version for a first listen).
By the way I'm French and I really enjoy watching you react to our French music!

This pretty much mirrors my initial reaction to this song. And when I first heard the extended edit and NRK versions of the song too. This convinced me there and then to buy all of their albums. Ultimately led me to see them over 20 times since 2005 (Analogue is such a fantastic album). No regrets; they are a great band where even the weakest albums have songs that are utterly beautiful and well crafted.

A-ha were always given a raw deal by Warner & MTV in the USA while they continued huge success around the world. At a Rock In Rio festival in the late 80's A-ha sold out the venue to capacity at 198,000! A world record. George Michael & Prince also played separate nights at this same venue that year but only sold 60,000 each. The thing was, international music press were there, MTV was there... All the other artists, except for A-ha, were interviewed and promoted on US TV. It's incredible that A-ha were THE biggest deal and America pretended like they didn't exist

Here in Quebec, Canada, i remember hearing just a few songs of them on radio and in dance-club in the 80's and early 90's... @@sylvieouellet212 That's great that you continue to follow and enjoy a-ha's music. I guess I shouldn't be too irritated by those events, but I do know how much it affected the band and their frame of mind. A certain frustration, depression and anger began to grow in them because of it. When they could have been celebrating such an achievement like Rio, instead they were heartbroken and felt ignored. I think anyone would feel that way, being kept out of "an important room". Eventually irritations drove them to break up following the "Memorial Beach" album. Morten recalls this album as "very dark times". Luckily an invite from the Nobel Peace Prize concert in 98 drew them back together and it appears that they appreciate the world still loves them. Obviously the story will be more complicated than how I've put it, but you can see how irritations like this could cause bad blood even among the best of friends 💗

Wow I just adore you and your a-ha reactions! Imagine me, a 15 year old, heard Take on me and I was, in your words, "losing my bananas!" Then I saw that face on that video and my "bananas" were completely lost....! Then came more, and more, (I'm from the UK) and by the time this one came out, you felt it just as I did...your words are just perfect, you feel it as we did! To quote "I love it! I love it!....I don't know what to do with myself, ah god! I mean how do I...recover from this!" Just fabulous! If only you could have seen them live. You would be blown away!

Hi Dereck, 1986 song, you are absolutely right, a-ha has been known around the world since 1985 with impressive tours, and hardly any in the usa👍It's like that ! '' Vevet '', '' MaryElen makes the moments counts '' very good also for example. Personally I find a-ha good, live. Happy that the usa are rediscovering a-ha !Glad that an American is discovering French songs as well.Balavoine, Berger, Lavilliers ... Cheers to you Dereck from France🍻 Skål !
