To be honest, almost every time I hear one of their songs I think "this is one of my favourites" and then I hear another one and I feel the same. Fact is that most of their songs are so great that they are all my favourites. Check out Driftwood when you have time. That's another gem from the album Scoundel days.
It's a crime that this amazing song (the best on the album) wasn't released as a single! Imagine what it could have done for the bands image compared to Touchy and You're The One. Oh and I absolutely LOVE the long outro - so many fine details!
It was considered to be released as a single, the "alternative version" was edited in order to act as a "radio edit" (released as a bonus a only a couple of years ago). The company went for another song back in the 80s ..I think they chose "Touchy!" instead.
They even discussed using it as the Album title. This should have been released as the third single after The blood that moves the body. It would have been a more rightful third single.
My favorite A-ha song. Morten's voice is off the roof there. I love it ! And the music is very beautiful too, so powerful, so amazing. ;) It should have been a single. But on the other hand the fact that it wasn't released as a single make it a gem, only real fans know. Personally I love it's length. I love every second of it.
You're right! This one should have been a single. I'm a real great fan of this band, I'm 52 years old and I began to listen to A-ha when I was 15. Immediately I loved the style, the voice, ewerything about them. This song is one of my favorite with "Manhattan skyline". I apologize if my English is not well, I'm French...
What a pleasant surprise for me to find that in 2022 people are still talking about one of the most incredible a-ha songs ever. Thanks for the review. Years ago I found an extended version of this song and it was fantastic. As for your comment that the song could have been shorter, I think the reason is that the song ending is long is because it represents the young man moving on in life.
This is one of my favourite A-Ha tracks. It's a song about a relationship between 'your' father; 'your' mother; and 'your' younger self, which can be quite complicated.
This song is so deep. You found the right word, Dereck. Anyone who has lost one or both of their beloved parents knows the feeling of emptiness, of losing their roots, of drifting, out of control. A feeling that comes even if you have had them for a long time in your life. As always, A-ha manages to capture the emotions. Regarding the title, I agree about the blue water and green growth, but there is a double meaning. Blue also contains a feeling of sadness, as in blues.
This beautiful song is the only one that makes me cry or drives me emotionaly bad. One of my favourite from A-HA... When Morten says "Father, proud that I am to be born into such hands...", well I can't explain but it's ohhh...
This song is one of my favorites on this album. It's beautiful and full of nuances, when Morten sings the chorus - Don't matter My eyes have seen For better Out of blue comes green - I cry
A LEGENDARY song, with incredible lyrics and delivered with the kind of power few possess. Check out Scoundrel Days Live from the early 90's for the ultimate Morten Harket live performance...
This is one of my favorite a-ha songs, and the lyrics are indeed very deep talking about life and family. I even have a tattoo inspired on this song, I got it in 2020, after all the horrible things we were experiencing because of the pandemic, I tried to hold myself on to the good things that I still had, I started noticing "greens" coming out of the sad things (the "blues") that were happening in the world at the time.
Morten Harket a vraiment une super voix. Forcément chez A-Ha, il y a take on me que tout le monde connaît. Mais je recommande particulièrement la version acoustique de cette chanson qui est juste magnifique.
This was an album only track, one of the hidden gems from Stay On These Roads. Another one is Hurry Home & The Bandstand from a later album too …. Both stunning hidden gems like this one. Keep up the awesome videos you gorgeous man xxxx stay safe and look forward to the next video !!! Xxxx
Wouldn't say a hidden gem, when this was off of a hit/very big hit album in many many countries-Stay on These Roads which obv Dereck showed pic of! Millions + Millions know this.
@@mikekaraoke If you look at all the reactions across all the channels for a-Ha songs you would be hard pushed to find more than 10-12 that have reacted to it compared to the thousands that have reacted to all the singles and the tracks that are often In the live show but not a single. Hurry home, The Bandstand, no and The Blue Sky. I’ve heard them on many concerts over the years but not singles and a lot of Reactions to them too. Compared to them ….. it’s a hidden gem as it would not have been one that Derrick would have pulled out going On the number of times it was Suggested. There are still at least 15-20 singles to get through before hitting the album tracks although he’s done a few and it’s ones again that were popular on tour too ….
@@Islendingar Ummmm, there are a shit load more than 12 different TH-cam channels that have reacted to: this song lol Yea A-ha always play there other songs off of their hit albums and not just the hit singles! The reason why he has just got round to this song was because he has soooo many requests. Like when I + many others asked to to react to:Sandra-In the Heat of the Night that took him like 7 + half months to finally get to it lol A-ha have been playing them famus album tracks since the 80's on tour and on programmes like: Blue Peter....etc Where you from?

Agree 100 per cent when hearing songs for the first time you are better off with a video and just listen. Live performances though probably different experience.
I haven't heard this one yet, if it is a banger it goes on my list as well. Please take your time and do all of them a-ha songs, album by album. Edit: The pacing is a bit slow but I love it --> To the list it goes. I need to start to listen to all albums one after the other.
Hands down my fave song by A-ha! Such an emotional roller coaster ride. My second favourite is this one and it’s a live version - you’ve been wanting to review them live. The Swing of Things! th-cam.com/video/UbDWGr7AEIQ/w-d-xo.html
The cover of the album Stay on these roads, where it originated from is used as the cover when you play this song. The cover were made with the three guys centered in the middle and various blurred people surrounding them in the background. In the cover photo for the single You Are The One the same cover photo session is used but this time the photo is in color and Morten has a red parrot on his left shoulder. You can more clearly see the people in the background in that particular picture. I would recommend you look it up, it is a nice selection of photos. I totally agree with you on the ending on the track, and as a funny anecdote I do remember quite clearly that the original reviewer in the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten had the same remark. He also meant the song was too long and should have been cut down to around 5 minutes. The meaning Out of blue comes green refers to that when you are sad (blue), sooner or later you will view the world differently and more positive (green).
If you want some live version suggestions then, the song analogue live from frognerparken. Or manhattan skyline at the NRK studios. Or summer moved on from the Valhalla show.
Always loved that deep cut. This one was written both music/words by Pal, Apart from this one, " There's Never a forever thing" and "This alone is love" are some of faves off their 3rd album.Morten still shoots straight to the heart with his epic vocal arrows!
If you want to hear them live then the NRK session from 1991 is a Must-Listen, especially Manhattan Skyline (th-cam.com/video/QgqZbe-8Mm8/w-d-xo.html), I've Been Losing You (th-cam.com/video/sL_GGtlSWbc/w-d-xo.html) and East of the Sun (th-cam.com/video/UO5plzhd8c8/w-d-xo.html)
HH is for me the weakest one on the album though i still quite like it. But TBTMTB yes!Morten's performance on this is greatly playful and he handles it such an artistic way. That song has also got a very good video clip!
There is an "alternate version" that was supposed to act as a "radio edit" but the single release for this song was cancelled and the company went for "Touchy!" instead if I remember correctly...
You should react to «Analogue» and «Cosy prisons» (love both songs) live from Frognerparken in Oslo, Norway. There were over 120.000 people there in 2005. There is a video with those two songs/performamces from that concert in the same clip.
