    Fun fish to catch. Lynx lake is one of my favorite spots to catch carp. Someone threw goldfish in the lake years ago that mated with the carp and now they have 20 pound bright orange carp swimming around.

    I fish for carp in W.N.Y. I use a tight line technique with a steel sinker at the bottom,bout 10lb test for a max.. For some crazy reason, some areas dont allow a sinker at the bottom? It makes no sense to me at all for any reason,except your allowed to buy the license ,but not allowed to actually catch fish & avoid snags. If it breaks off in either instance you have a mouth hooked fish with a sinker hanging down ,no matter how it was rigged, so no difference usually unless the line snaps above the hook & below the sinker which is seldom if ever the case? To me rigging the hook on the bottom ensures leaving more hooks & sinkers in the water no matter what the bottom conditions are. Either way,no more wieght than needed to just hold the line tight without moving the sinker ,the actual sinker size needs to be bigger when there is more current &/or wind. I put the sinker on a snap swivel at the end of the line,then about 18" /24" up I have another snap swivel with a baited hook on about 12" of mono line. It doesnt seem to matter if the bait floats up,settles down on or near the bottom,if they are hitting,then they are hitting & it does not matter. If they dont hit,then offer up other baits. Best baits in order of preference & performance for me is ,#1 white flour dough balls or kneaded bread balls i make myself round or grub shaped. #2 sweet corn,#3 crayfish tails, #4leaches ,#5 worms. Carp feed mostly on food on or near the bottom or drifting towards the bottom so keep that in mind. Hold gently tight to the sinker with line hooked in 1 finger & pulled snug between 1st pole eyelet & real. This is tight lining & is very,very effective, do not set the pole down or let loose of the line with that one hooked finger until you set the hook. Carp suck & vacume in bait as they hover motionless over or beside it & never hit,run or move. They will suck & gum the bait off with out ever moving & then blow the bare hook or yes, even lure out with an effortless puff of water opposite of how they sucked it in. You may never even know they were there. Often times anglers think the bait just soaked or fell off when they reel in to check & it's gone? The bite is almost undetectable, often feels like a 1" minnow bumped your line,almost not noticable! Just jerk when you feel the slightest sensation & set that hook. You trust me,that prick is there & he has it in his mouth every time, likely never get one foul hooked this way,its always dead inside the mouth. Once you get a feel for it several 100 lbs of carp is possible in just a short 4 hr day in the right places. Once the carp have over populated ,they destroy a water way,lake or pond for most any other fishing except carp. It is long term damage & will continue indefinitely until the carp numbers are brought back under control where the game fish can keep them in check before they get so big. Once grown,they have no predators anymore,they dont fit in anything's mouth any more & have golf ball sized armor plate scales? We are the only measurable predators they have at that point. They starve the game fish young out with their own young through over population & yes,that means their young starve in mass too. But they now own the body of water. Carp will take floating baits & top feed occasionally, moths,grasshoppers & even pop corn.

    Loved your video but I love you White Mountain vids more lol. I'd love to see some Black River fishing or exploring some of the hidden gems like Luna Lake(for cutthroat), Aker Lake(for arctic grayling), or the Greer Lakes(for trophy browns).

    Nice fish Jake! Fun video. It might be called a Bolt rig with the big sinker. 2 poles can be a challenge sometimes. Caught a few carp at the river this week, two were 11inches. Didn't know they came that small . Have you ever tried a dual drag reel? They work good for this type of fishing.

    • @GOALFishing
      @GOALFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ron 1986 thanks man! That is a really small carp for the river, I’ve never caught any that small Just the sanora suckers on occasion. I’ve looked into the dual drag reels, they look awesome, but since I don’t do carp fishing as much I just use some of my older cheaper gear for now. I’ll upgrade as I can. It would be nice to have the drag set just right at the flip of a switch though.

    Could you let me know where this place is by any chance? I live in MN and is here for a trip and wanted to find somewhere to fish because I had no luck on Saguaro or canyon for yellows bass.

      @Spencer Davis just pick one close to you that is okay to fish and give it a try. There are quite a few carp in the canals.
