Congratulations. Been following you for a couple of years now, and your joy today was a thing to behold, as was that 23 pounder. Pleased to be sharing in your success 😀
Being a carp angler I only use barbless hooks and take my time landing the fish, never have a bleeding wound. If there is I put a special antiseptic fluid on it so it diminish the risk of infection.
Great catches!! About the bleeding, its not the hook but the amount of pressure on the fish with rod and line. Heavy tackle can inflict wounds on the fish and so a bit lighter tackle takes away this issue. Done carpfishing for long and caught thousands and slowly moved from ultra heavy to soft rods for the sake of the fish. You can still use a thicker line on a soft rod with no problem and using thin small barbless hooks makes no difference also, as with a soft rod your hook is safe from bending out or ripping through the mouth of the fish. Love to see whats swimming around in that canal😁
You STILL manage to get so worked up, by the sheer joy of the moment, that you forget to record. I buy THAT any day over all these perfectly arranged videos on the net. Thanx for sharing this awsome session and keep em comin mate! Cheers from Sweden!
Chris is the best angler in the uk his videos are 100% love everything hes ever done. Always gets me in the mood to rip the rods out.. get out there.. my hero
Chris, I use micro barbed and have never seen bleeding like that. Although you did bring the fish in pretty fast especially as it was a grass carp! I tend to play the fish in a more sedate retrieve and enjoy the fight. Great catch.
Tiring a fish out completely that way is doing more damage than a barbed hook mate, regardless of how paramount your fish care is, your still stressing a fish out by hooking it in the first place
Grass carp fight hard and fast, in a canal i guess having to bully them into the net doesn't help with hook hold bleed, should always carry and use a carp care spray for hook holds......I would only use micro barbed (most decent fisheries insist) and you wouldn't get the bleed if had room to play the fish, with a large grassy even half hour gentle battle it will still go nuts in the net and bitch slap you on the bank 😂
Great catches , and been following you for years now , but I must say this time ,I would of liked to see the fish not man-handle so much in the fight and yes carp spray on is what we as fisherman must use to preserve these amazing creatures we spend our live pursuing . I know you had a small swim there and plenty of snags so wont hold this one against you fella , cracking vid and amazing catches .
You are a legend, your enthusiasm just keeps shining through...It really is such a pleasure to watch. Your videos never fail to lift my spirits and put a big old smile on my face. Thank you for your excellent content.
I am not a Carp fisher at all but if I were Grass Carp would be top of the list. What you did there has to be some kind of a record. Love your enthusiasm and respect for the fish. Always a pleasure to watch.
Your enthusiasm for fishing Is so infectious I love it, you don’t just flick a line in the water and hope for the best, you explain in great detail the watercraft that’s connected to this sport. And this is what keeps me enthralled with excitement about your videos, keep up the sterling work and sport we call angling.👍🏻
Getting out there and living the dream through determination and believing that the fish are there somewhere, awesome footage, very inspiring well done Chris 👍👍
You so deserved that absolute creature. Your knowledge, expertise and techiques are only outweighed by your positivity and enthusiasm. Brilliant angling
Wow, thanks for this. It was so fantastic to see such a productive, healthy waterway. And your face says it all. 23lb pb grass Carp from a canal Wow again.
I stopped fishing quite some years ago but used to use barbless carp hooks only and even then occasionally the mouth would bleed. I hated catching fish where all their mouths were distorted from scar tissue. Some of their mouths were so badly scarred you wondered how they could still feed. At the time there was some discussion about bent shanked hooks being the problem due to them rotating in the fishes mouth whilst being played and thus tearing the flesh in the mouth. I fished with one and three-quarter test curve rods and would play them rather than force them in, but you would still have the same problem. The only thing I used to do would be to treat the wound with an anti septic, I think it was called Klinik. As a matter of conscience I did it every time whether it was bleeding or not.👍
I'm not a fan of barbless hooks. I've used them where fisheries have barbless rules, but have seen them move around in the hook hold and cause nasty slices. A quality barbed hook (micro barb), I think is thd best all rounder.
Yes, I think you could well be right. On the discussion of barbless hooks versus barbed or micro barbed hooks, there was an argument that the barbed hook held its position in the fishes mouth rather than moving around and causing tears which could be more likely to happen with a barbless hook.
I've not fished for a few years now but used to use Drennan Super Specialist hooks, and flatten the barb, and had few issues with them - caught fish up to 28lb no problem. Lovely video by the way, fantastic result, well done!
I've been coarse fishing for decades and I recognise your skill in catching specimens of various species, selecting the right swims, methods and baits. Those Grass Carp were very impressive. Well done !
Hi ginge think you should come up to Poynton and fish some of the canals near there. Some beautiful fish saw a close to 4lb perch get caught the other day on a dark green fluke style lure.
Chris lovely grass carp love watching your fishing channel you hope you win next year over on the continent show those boys over there who is the boss.
Free lining bread is exactly how I caught my first carp 3 decades ago. It's so much fun! *About the bleeding mouth, I hardly ever experienced it. Only thing I can say is I've been using softer rods 2.5Lbs test, 0.40mm nylon and microbarbed fox armapoint hooks mostly in size 8. Congrats on the PB!
Chris another cracking one As a carp angler I use barbless hooks Still get the odd bleeder but seems to occur when hooked in scissors Suspect more blood vessels in this area More prevalent in spring
From the look of that bigguns tail, they're on borrowed time 😞 cracking video, gotta love the endless passion and pure joy fishing brings you and you display in these videos Keep up the good work 💪
Like a mermaid. 🧜♀️ 😂 Definitely should be the ginger fisherman’s new catch phrase. What an amazing creature well done Chris thanks for sharing the video.
A man after my own heart! I only fish for Carp off the top, its the best way and more like lure fishing. My one tip is to take some dog biscuits as well, cheap and plentiful (Tesco own brand beef and Veg is the best I've found). They also make a great dinner bell-esque plopping noise when you thrown them in that often attracts the Carp. Dog Biscuits are best used for locating the Carp, then once you've found em, fish for them with bread as you were (personally cant be bothered to hair rig a dog biscuit!) I used the barbless Korda Mixa hook for surface fishing and don't generally have the bleeding issues. Well done again Chris, super chuffed for you.
If you want more secure bait use uncut tiger bread works a charm for me push the hook up through the bread twist 180 degrees and push through! Happy fishing
Thats a great session Ginge well done. Over the last few years ive walked / ridden hundreds of miles on my local Canal and ive not seen a sausage ( although the water is extremely dirty ) Id love to catch a canal Carp of any size. Well done old boy
Omg what a session and incredible fish and your enthusiasm is just great to see you have watching you over the last year has got my about to start fishing again can't wait for my new adventures
Awesome session. I would say the bleeding is from freelining and irregular hook holds in the side. Most normal methods of carp fishing is done on the bottom using hair rigs which means the rig flips over into the bottom lip which is mainly just cartilage
Amazing session, the look on your face when you got those fish was a picture, the sheer excitement is why we all go fishing. Have some stonking Carp on the Grand Union near me but have failed to catch any so fair play on getting those beasts. Regarding the bleeding from the hooks, I use Pallatrax Gripz most of the time and have only ever had one fish bleed on me (That was a Tench)
Nooo, you found our secret fishing hole🤫, Been fishing here with my lad over the last couple of years. Bit of a trek but well worth it. Some good sized bream and tench to be had as well on the method feeder. Top video well done Chris.
Awesome, with the Carp Hooks, the Wide gape or Mixer pattern hooks work well for surface fishing and do tent to avoid that issue. Another consideration might be a finer mesh net to protect the fins from getting split when they go crazy. Loved this video, you have us all grinning ear to ear just watching from home🙌😁
@@bellson666 I’m in Nuneaton and the same here… did 4 or 5 sessions for pike and didn’t see a single one, one visit to the local pond and one within half an hour! Coventry canal is deffo dead in a lot of stretches
Up here in Scotland too. I only really fish for pike and perch on them and have never really caught much. Probably says more about my skill level than the fish 😂
That was an amazing video. Enthusiasm and passion shines through. Grassies are my favourite fish and you hit the jakpot here. Well deserved and absolutley amazing captures.
I'm old enough to remember when they were stocked at 3 to 4 inch long to help keep the weed down it didn't work but atleast we still have some of the fish
Council did it years back in a little 3/4 acre pond near me, the pike found them particularly tasty and now there's just one really big one left swimming around on top of more weed than it could eat in a lifetime🤣
That was an impressive haul by anyone's standards..three grass carp on the same day ! ...I think you need to mention the name of this stretch of canal..if only to give the rest of us a fighting chance. Keep up the good work, we are all loving your content.well done.
Great video as always! Congrats on you're captures. Grassys from a UK Canel is one he'll of an achievement, well done! I would recommend barbless or micro barb closed down for less trauma and bleeding from hook wounds.
Awesome video, great fish! You can say what you like, catching a big carp from hard water is one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had. Pike and chub are all well and good but nothing makes my heart pound like having a massive wild carp on the other end of my line.
Great video awesome result. Not sure if someone else has already answered. Is it micro barbed your using, did see the full fight but perhaps may have needed to play the fish little longer. May have been how much pressure you put on to get it in. Although understandable when surface fishing and narrow area

I agree, proper carp, not puddle stock.
