    I have an old AV that stopped growing and I have a very small piece of crown I saved. I put it in a cloche and there's roots sprouting. It was my favorite and bloomed very heavily. I just couldn't throw it away.

    Instead of individual glass domed units, I use a clear plastic storage box with a clear lid, and I place as many prepotted leaf cuttings or baby plants, which have already been watered, inside the box, and snap on the lid. I place the box by a window, and forget about it. As long as you see condensation formed on the top of the box, you really don’t need to water. Just check for that moisture every so often. I usually open it up and look inside about once a month. Your babies will look so green and lush if you let them develop like this. Sometimes you’ll even find one blooming when you check.

    Was happy to see another AV video on your channel! I usually start by propping in water and then when I see the first few roots forming, I will move them to 5oz dixie cups. I usually have terrible luck with propping in soil. Stem rot just slowly eats it no matter how lightly I water. Doing it this way, I avoid the stem rot and get a good strong plant.

    I saw one of your older videos about african violets and decided to give violets a try (another one after over 30yrs ;). I chose water propagation and after half year I have bunch of plantlets on cut leafs but no roots yet. Do you have any idea why this happens?

    Glad to know I’ve been doing it the same way as you, Danny! Funny how odd some of our tools are: bamboo skewer, paintbrush, scalpel, tweezers, string, clips, cinnamon, tiny pots and jars. I use all of these!
    So addicted to African Violets now! First one was given to me by a coworker at the same time you started making videos on them. I actually have it in bark and sphagnum moss on self watering and it’s doing great. Self watering never worked with soil for me, always seems to overwater. Just recently found more exotic ones (trailing, ruffled leaves, etc.) at a local nursery. It’s dangerous that I pass the nursery on the way to work every day!
    Just potted my water propagated leaves. BRB, off to cut more to propagate!!

    After watching your video, I might try this. I feel more confident that I could be successful with African Violets. In the past, they always died. Not sure why. I do great with orchids and other plants. Thanks Dani!

    For me, I only use soil propagation. I have very good luck and better luck than water propagation. Thanks for the video.

    I need help. I have 7 violets and I’ve crossed 6 of them for the past 2 months. So far I got one seed pod that lasted 7 weeks and then suddenly dried up. I opened it and no seeds. So I’ve tried self pollinating and still nothing. What are the chances that all of these violets are incompatible?

    Help needed!!
    I have a rather large, well established violet that has put off a baby plantlet several months ago. The baby now has two layers of leaves, & it blooms.
    I need to repot the whole thing, but how do I separate the baby plant from the main one? Is it the same as you showed in this video for separating baby plants off a propagation?
    I’m really scared to damage or mess up the main plant! It’s my oldest & favorite violet 😢

    • @chemenginecat3940
      @chemenginecat3940 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Separating shouldn’t be difficult.
      I find that when I separate my baby plantlets, sometimes they can break off with no roots attached. In that case, I put it in a glass with water only up to the bottom 1/4 inch of the stem or so where the roots should be. After a while, they will grow roots, and I plant them normally. You can try that if there’s no roots.
