    Thanks for this! I’m getting a chemical peel at a medspa called micropeel plus. Is it safe for dark skin?

    • @CitySkinClinic
      @CitySkinClinic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome. I don't know this brand of peel but from Googling it seems to contain salicylic acid which is safe for darker skin tones if used correctly. I would recommend you ask them to do a patch test first just to check that it's ok for your skin.

    Is a yellow peel appropriate for melanin rich skin - which consists of Vit A, Lactic Acid, Kojic Acid and Arbutin etc please?

    • @CitySkinClinic
      @CitySkinClinic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! I'm not familiar with yellow peel so I had to look it up! There seem to be a few different yellow peels but the one that has lactic acid, kojic acid, arbutin, phytic acid, azelaic acid and retinoic acid (Vita A) should be fine for melanin rich skin. Just remember to have a patch test done first though (its the case for any peels/chemical exfoliants). There are other yellow peels which contain TCA which needs a little more care and some skin prep in order to prepare melanin rich skin for it to avoid post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

    I always thought the TCA peels were one of the most dangerous peels for our skin .

    • @CitySkinClinic
      @CitySkinClinic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Brianna, you're right that greater caution has to be taken with TCA peels because they penetrate deeper. However, with correct skin prep and using a lower strength peel they can be safely used on skin of colour.

    • @CitySkinClinic
      @CitySkinClinic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wasn't d\familiar with this brand so thanks for bringing it to my attention! I had a look at what they offer and I think that mandelic acid is great but don't use more than 10% strength. So the serum will be fine as its 10% but definitely not the at home peel which is 40%. Remember to patch test the serum on your arm or collar bone area before using on the face to make sure you aren't allergic. Please let me know whether you end up using it and what you think of it!

      Yes it will help to brighten the skin after a tan without bleaching. You can also use Vitamin C serum to help with that. Make sure you use SPF to protect your skin from sun damage especially whilst using peeling agents.

    What do you think of the VI peel? It’s meant to be safe for skin of colour.

    • @CitySkinClinic
      @CitySkinClinic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've read and seen that its safe to use for skin of color and in the promo info they've sent the results look good however I have't tried these peels. They do however contain some ingredients that I like using in peels for skin of color such as retinoic acid, low dose TCA and salicylic acid. I personally prefer the control of using separate peels and combining/tailoring them to the patient's specific needs.

    I used a 20% Salicylic Acid peel and it gave me a few dark spots around my mouth. I used it one time before and I didn't really peel or get brown spots. I really hope the dark spots will go away. I did a glycolic acid peel a long time ago had no idea what I was doing. Burnt my upper lip really bad, didn't use baking soda nothing, just rinsed it with cold water. I had scarring for a while but it went away. So with this peel I used a baking soda like spray and cold water. Did everything I'm supposed to and still got frosting and dark spots. Guess if this doesn't work I'll use lactic acide from now on

    • @CitySkinClinic
      @CitySkinClinic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I am very sorry to hear about that Bianca but that's why it's not a good idea to use high strength peels at home as there is a danger they can burn the skin or cause post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. I would immediately stop using professional peels at home to avoid damaging your skin as this can be permanent. I know its hard due to the pandemic but if you can get a doctor to look at them and ensure there's nothing that's needed to speed up their healing or prevent them getting worse like a dressing. in any case, avoid using any kind of exfoliant until they heal so that they don't get worse.
      Moving forwards, please either go to a professional for clinical strength peels or with a bit of time and patience you can get good results with exfoliants/peels that are designed for safe use at home and can be bought over the counter. The ordinary peeling solution is one example that can deliver god results over time and is designed for use safely at home. It contains both AHA and BHA. Lactic acid or mandelic acid or enzyme peels (again ones designed for use at home and not a clinical strength) can also be a good gentle option. Also remember Retinol and Vitamin C when used regularly have many of the skin smoothing and brightening properties that peels have. I'm sure a good routine with these over the counter products and some time/persistence will be much better for your skin and peace of mind!

    Hello, Dr.! I love your video. :) Please give me your advice. My skin tone is a 5 on the Fitzpatrick scale. I only have discoloration around my eyes. It looks like I have owl eyes. No acne issues. I'd like to get a peel to specifically address the dark circles around my eyes and lighten that part so they match the rest of my skin. Is this possible? Thank you so much!

    • @CitySkinClinic
      @CitySkinClinic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Becks, that's a great question! It really depends on the cause of the discolouration but peels can help and different peels will work for different skin tones. Alternative solutions could also include laser treatment or at home hyperpigmentation treatments. The best one will depend on what is causing the dark circles.

    I do appreciate your videos so much! ❤️🤗Also talking about brown skin and how to navigate through salon treatments etc.😍 Dermapen and mesotherapy for brown skin is also a question of mine. 🤔❓

    • @CitySkinClinic
      @CitySkinClinic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much for the lovely comment 😊 Dermapen if used correctly is perfectly safe to use on brown skin and all skin tones really. In terms of mesotherapy, if we're talking about applying serums and micronutrients during the Dermapen then that is fine. However, mesotherapy as a treatment on its own (ie when the micronutrients are injected into the skin) can cause problems like hyperpigmentation and scarring.

    What do you think about BioRePeelCl3 for dark skin tones ??

    • @CitySkinClinic
      @CitySkinClinic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question Elizabeth! I have no experience of using BioRePeelCl3 but it seems the main ingredient is a TCA peel. These peels are strong and can cause post inflammatory hyperpigmentation in darker tones however that doesn't mean they can't be used. It generally means that a period of preparing your skin at home maybe required which the practitioner can advise you on. It may also mean needing to use a pigment suppressor afterwards to reduce risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

    What do you think of Ellen Lange peel?

    • @CitySkinClinic
      @CitySkinClinic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not familiar with that brand but have looked it up to see what's in it. The main ingredient seems to be glycolic acid and an enzyme scrub. Glycolic acid is great for skin texture, brightening and lines/wrinkles but it can also cause post inflammatory hyperpigmentation in medium to deeper complexions. As this is a home peel, I assume that its a low concentration but I would patch first to be sure it won't cause issues with your skin. Alternatively, look at enzyme, mandelic or lactic acid peels designed for use at home or if you have oily skin then salicylic acid as these will do the same job but are gentler. In any case, I'd strongly advise patch testing first. The great news is this are plenty of safe and effective at home peel options on the market. Please let us know what you decide to do and how you get on with it!

    Mam...I am having darker FEET,KNEES, ELBOW with light brown skin tone... NORMAL,DRY SKIN.... which chemical peel will work for my BODY PARTS not for face and at wat percentage!?!!

    • @CitySkinClinic
      @CitySkinClinic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey darling. This is a great question and we'll do a full video on it as its something that a lot of our audience ask. The same rules and ingredients for your face also work on feet knees and elbows. Generally lactic/mandelic acid and enzyme peels have reduced risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation on brown skin although you should always do a patch test first and ensure the product is safe for at home use. These peeling agents are probably best to find in the form of a mask/pads or a solution that you then rinse off for ease of application. You should also consider moisturiser that contains urea for dry areas like the feet/elbows knees and shea butter or even vaseline to lock in moisture and make the skin smoother. This can be a routine you do up to 3 times a week. On a daily basis, use Vitamin C and Retinol on these areas to help speed up the brightening effect if you already use these as serums on your face. Remember to protect elbows and knees from trauma (even things like kneeling for long periods or leaning your elbow on a desk for extended periods will also cause hyperpigmentation over time).

    I have severe pigmentation and I discovered that acids are bad for me. I was advised by some skin doctors I saw to do an acid peel. I am skin tone 5 and really need your advice.

    • @CitySkinClinic
      @CitySkinClinic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm so sorry you've had such a tough time. If you have had problems with acids in the past then you can try other options such as hydroquinone/tretinoin based systems depending on what the cause of your hyperpigmentation is. There are a few peels that are safe and effective on deeper skin tones but you would need to see someone who has experience of treating more melanated skin tones as they will select the safest and most effective treatment for you.

    • @CitySkinClinic
      @CitySkinClinic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Valerie, the best peel will depend on the skin problem/target/goal we're trying to achieve and you skin type (e.g. oily/dry etc) as well as your skin color. For example, for blemishes there are many options including enzyme, salicylic acid, Jessner or Lactic acid. So there is't one peel that works for everyone but there are usually 1-2 peels that will work the best for you :)

    • @CitySkinClinic
      @CitySkinClinic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't recommend glycolic peel for under the eyes as the skin there is very delicate and there is a risk of burn which can worsen it. There are other treatments for dark undereye circles that are safe and effective (check out my under eye circles video).
