  • Bolstering both the Dreamcast launch and fulfilling the extreme sports craze of the time, TrickStyle would mark Criterion's debut on consoles. But did the studio pull off this trick flawlessly?

    Easily top 3 of favorite Dreamcast games and the first one I bought in my adulthood. I was so pumped as a kid defeating the Japan race.

    Definitely looks like a lot of fun! Also love how when you crash the characters body still acts as a hover board 😂

    I've always hated the long epic trails that the opponents have, meanwhile you get that short poop trail...

    I would've been all over something like this if I'd owned a Dreamcast back then. Quite like the art style, even if the visuals have aged a bit.

      Me too, I love the late 90s gear clashing with the future 😅

    I played the crap outta this as a kid! Was crazy fun at the time.

      I would have loved to play this as a young kid. Reminds me of the early 2000s extreme sports titles

      SteadySphere - Pixel Empire Video Reviews Man I had so many nights when I was about 10 or 11 years old that I did all nighters playing that game! I still never could beat that damn last level.

      Between this game and Tony Hawk Pro skater, 1080 snowboarding, there were some awesome Extreme sports games.

    Played this around the PAL launch but never owned it. Felt fun and now your excellent review has both reminded me of it and convinced me to try and pick it up!

      They are very similar indeed! Though I think Airblade is more story driven.
      I haven't played it but a friend of mine did a great review on it: th-cam.com/video/3OWspWI3I8E/w-d-xo.html

    Nice review mate I hadn’t heard of this but it does look fun. You’re right that it is reminiscent of SSX. Will keep my eyes peeled for a copy

      It flew under the radar to most peeps. It's good fun though! If you cant find a DC copy it's on PC too and got a Steam release!

    Played this radical 90s futuristic hover board game in the original Dream On Vol.1, a cool demo disc, and man, did I extract lots of fun out of it.
    Never played the full game; bet I would have loved it.
    As for its visuals, it's clearly not a good looking game in a technical sense; it came out early and at a time that no game engines had been yet built around 128bit gen hardware.
    It more than makes up for it in style and personality, though.
    What a lovely yet radical game!

    I remember this game well, Shin and King were my characters. It's really fun game to play, i tried my best as a kid to try and complete the game and learn as many tricks as possible, there are so many to pull off. It was a challenging game too. Thank you kindly for the review, nostalgic this 1 is for me.

    • @Steadysphere
      @Steadysphere  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah Shin was my pick, as you can see from the video xD it is real fun and latter stages are quite tough! Thank you for watching and glad to bring back good memories!

    Pity I don't own a Dreamcast.... this game looks pretty fun... especially when it's developed by the same studio that later made the awesome Burnout gamess! I still play Burnout 3 and Revenge to this very day.

    • @Steadysphere
      @Steadysphere  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is fun! Criterion would only go on to make even greater stuff like the two you mentioned :)
      If you have a PC and game on it, you can get Trickstyle through Steam or GOG

    • @zpbstudios9551
      @zpbstudios9551 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Steadysphere I strongly agree! Criterion made so many great games, they have a very respectable track record. They were essentially the British equivalent of Neversoft, they both released truly phenomenal games, with THPS2 and Burnout 3 being one of the greatest video games of yesteryear!

    • @Steadysphere
      @Steadysphere  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zpbstudios9551 Definitely an apt comparison, I miss Neversoft a lot as they made so many of my games I grew up with. I know Criterion are still going technically, but they seem quiet these days.
