Oh NOOOOO ma'am.......that first shower after giving birth......was the BEST THING ive ever experienced!!!! Yes, it was in the hospital but it made me feel literally....like a new person! It was sooo needed!
I have probably watched 10 hospital bag videos on TH-cam preparing for this baby and you are the first person to mention the importance of packing a go-bag for your toddler! Such a great idea, and something I hadn't considered but will certainly need!!
I love your videos because they're fun and chatty, but you also think through all the content in advance so it's well presented and I can learn a lot. I'm 33 weeks pregnant right now with our first, and I've just starting to think about packing my/baby's hospital bags so this is coming at the perfect time for me. Wishing you a smooth and safe arrival of little acorn #2!
When I had my son I had to be induced because he was measuring small. I knew there would be a possibility of him going into NICU and in that case I would be there for several days. Turned out we were in the hospital for a week and I was glad to have packed a duffel bag with a weeks worth of clothes (my hospital was 3 hours away from where I live) I’m glad I packed the way I did!!
For nursing, my daughter wouldn’t latch and was in the NICU for a few days but I brought my pump with me and pumped so she was still able to get my milk still. Just an idea for folks who still want to be able to feed your own milk. The milk came in just fine and I was able to pump quite a bit.
Lactation consultant here. I love when moms skip the shower because baby loves the o' natural smell of mom. I completely understand why mom might want to, but its great to avoid scented things.
Happy last few days/weeks pregnant ❤ 🤰🏼 im 25 weeks with my second, havent prepared anything yet for baby 😅 its so different second time around.. way less stress but also time to get ready for baby number two. I think ill be packing my bag last moment as well 😅
Great prep! I would even say no need for robes because with bleeding and baby nursing they get dirty every four hours or so. Not worth even bringing them, I stayed in a hospital issued gown the whole time but I was also in the hospital for five days after a c-section. That would be the equivalent of 20 plus gowns. I would recommend bringing a really long phone charger, a portable battery and a clip-on phone holder that can be attached to ur bed without having to use a wall plug, so that u can use it hands free if calling family after or playing music during or after labor and for watching videos etc in the quiet hours. I brought a holder and my nurses thought it was so clever! Good luck with baby number two, so happy for you and Matt and for Sagie ❤
I hated the hospital gown with a passion, was so happy to get out of it as soon as possible (after 28 hour labor - our hospital stay here is 3-5 days after you give birth) and change into my robe. Loved it and it did not get dirty that fast.
The hospital disposable underwear is really great and you can even ask for extras and take them home. My hospital had mesh ones that were super thin so they were great and not too high cut either so they didn’t squeeze on anything that was painful. Hospital grade witch hazel wet pads are also great and I thought they were much better than the homemade ones I made.
Diapers for myself were literally my best purchase. I wore them for I think nearly 2 weeks because I tore and was sooo swollen and sore that even underwear felt too tight. Hope your labor and delivery goes smoothly! It might be worth having the absolute bare essential labor items separate just in case you have a really fast labor. My sil’s second labor was 45mins (and her first was super slow) 😱😅
I brought electrolytes, bone broth and maca cashews as snacks for during labour and postpartum and I feel like it helped give me a little boost when I was exhausted.
Went to the hospital with the clothes on my back. Didn’t bother taking anything. The hospital provided everything and honestly it was great to not have to worry about keeping up with anything.
That is great but is not possible everywhere. We got a list of things to bring and it was quite long. And I was happy to have extra items for mine and baby's personal comfort. We both went through a lot of clothes during the hospital stay. (5 days total)
If you already don’t know, put coconut oil on the baby’s bottom before his or her first stool and it helps tremendously to wipe off the tacky meconium.
1:54 lol! Your face expression! 😁😂 You know what, I have a fiend and she totally had her baby on HER BIRTHDAY! lol The little dude was like, here I am, ma, Happy Birthday!😁😁 But she loves it😊 sharing her birthday with him, I mean
I didn't shower in the hospital after my previous 2 births and dont plan to for this one(due in early March). My mom has been a nurse for nearly 30 years now...there's nowhere more dirty/germy than a hospital. Our philosophy is get in and get out as quick as we can. Gave birth in the afternoon and then were checking out at 8pm the next day. Let me outta there! Lol.
I believe you are having another girl baby. Good luck on a safe and beautiful delivery. ❤️ Back in the 80’s, we didn’t pack hospital bags. We didn’t think about makeup. (Kind of wish I could do a do-over.)
Hope I'm not too late to add a suggestion (I know you could go into labor anytime now 👀😄🥰) Anyway, I highly recommend adding AfterEase to your bag! It's an herbal tincture (I got mine on Amazon) and it's supposed to help with cramps afterwards, which for most people they get worse with each subsequent birth. I used and it worked wonders! As soon as I felt some coming on I just squirted a dose into my mouth (you can mix it too but I find doing it straight is so easy) and the cramps got SO much lighter! And breastfeeding can make the cramps even stronger so I just can't recommend that stuff enough! Anyway thanks again for sharing your journey, it just made me feel so much less alone with mine (even though I was about 7 months behind you😅) - I even rewatched them all for my second! And your birth vlog was so inspiring! Wishing you a very smooth and happy labor & delivery!🤗💖
So true about packing the sandwich 😂so delivered at 10:30 pm and by the time I was moved to the postpartum recovery unit I was STARVING! The snacks were NOT enough. Definitely going to have my husband at least order me takeout to the hospital when I get close to pushing so he can grab it for me to eat immediately 😭😝
Omg I love this - were talking about having another baby so I texted my husband that I expect him to order me food if places are open when im delivering 😅 thanks for the idea!
I love your minimalist approach!! Definitely doing the same thing and limiting myself to a duffle bag this time around! Just a note about the shower…in the case of a c-section, they may have you shower after to loosen and remove the bandage. You obviously don’t have to take a full blown shower, and can literally just soak off your bandage and call it a day, but thought I’d mention because I was a little shocked after my son was born 😅 Can’t wait to hear about baby acorn’s arrival!! ❤
@@Gavivi87 far more minimal than some I’ve seen! She’s not packing bedding/linens, a diffuser, candles and twinkle lights, Bluetooth speakers, full glam makeup…I could go on 🥴
Essential oils are...essential for many people. She packed very little compared to all you have to bring where I live. We get a huge list. A suitcase was needed in my case.
My milk came in within 12 hours of having my first. And I had to use the milk-pads because the boob the kid wasn't feeding from would let down milk and drip (which is why I also used the haakaa to catch that milk at my peak producing time of day)
Where I live the hospital stay is 3-5 days (after my first I stayed 5 days total including the 28 hour birth - protocol for jaundice) so I packed a small suitcase and needed a lot of stuff. The only thing I received from the hospital was some diapers and some pads for me. I needed a lot of clothes for baby and me for those first days with spit up etc.
Oh wow! In that case I would def pack more stuff with me. The good news is theres a mall down the road from my hospital so Matt can grab extra stuff if need be I guess. Or have family bring some stuff up. I really dont suspect us being there long though since I dont have a high risk pregnancy.
I’ll pack two bags, one that looks like yours and then a second with extras of everything that we will leave in the car and can grab bits if we need. I stayed 4 nights with my first after an unexpected emergency c section.
I'm in Australia. My first was an un medicated "normal" delivery, 5 nights stay. My second was a c-section with a 9 night stay so definitely needed all the things in my Hospital bag both times.
the bumco pouch is not just for wipes, it's for diapers and anything you can think of, it holds a ton and it's very misused if you only put wipes in it. 🤯
Wish everything goes well and smooth 🙏🏼 and those bags looks so beautiful and lightweight and I’m not pregnant but I want them for travel or update my toddler one 😂 Cheers
Exactly. All those items packed won’t even be touched. I’m having my third in August, and all I’ll be worried about is sleep & breasts feedings. Also why do people pack a bag for the baby. All the baby will be doing is sleeping & breastfeeding & going for tests. Like who is filing nails & such right after birth.
Can someone clarify for the lounge wear/track suit pants, is it best to bring maternity or normal? At 34 weeks I’ve currently outgrown many of the maternity clothes I’ve bought (I thought it would last but no). Obviously not wanting to spend more with not long to go, I’m now in my husband’s track pants… so looking to buy some cheap loungewear. Do I buy maternity or normal?
After birth, everyone's body changes differently. Mine was still swollen to the size of about six months pregnant for the first week, so I was still in maternity clothes but also could fit in my non maternity that had a good amount of stretch (leggings / tops with elastin/dresses, etc).
For my 1st I brought with so many PJ’s and such and I ended up just wanting to wear my hospital gown, and it was nice to not need to bring all those clothes back and wash them. So next time I’m just bringing my robe, I wore that over my gown. I brought so much stuff with my 1st when I have the next it’s going to be so much less 😂
I didn’t like the pump there had at my hospital so I would bring my own the next time, comfy underwear and clothes, a lot of snacks, maybe a journal, also didn’t shower for 3 days, I wanted to shower at home, hot steamy shower, I did bring everything in case. Breastfeeding pillow 🤔 and certainly a nipple shield because my daughter was having trouble latching and didn’t drink enough until I got one once I was discharged from hospital. Wish you a beautiful delivery and meeting with little baby ♥️
At the hospital where I had my first, they had paper bags packed with sandwich making Ingredients in the fridge for Moms who gave birth when food wasn't available 😊.
When you birth at hospital in states they over charge for each diaper and mama pad and item used. And if you use more natural shampoo, toothpaste etc will definitely want to bring it. Combs for labor if you use them
They probably overcharge but with health insurance it still comes out cheaper just because you use so much, especially if you’re in there longer than one day due to complications.
@@HealthNutNutrition Thank you for your reply Nicole! I will try the oil massages as that’s the only thing I’m not doing for it yet, determined to grow my hair back! :)
When I gave birh after the first day I asked my partner to go get me my regular underwear, I was hating the hospital disposable ones. Best decision ever for me to be comfortable! Best of luck with your birth!!!!
I think it all depends. I mean it doesn’t hurt to start preparing as soon as possible. With my first baby, I didn’t prep until I was about 32 weeks. This time around I’m 24 weeks and I have my bag almost completely prepped. You never know when baby will arrive, so I say as soon as possible doesn’t hurt. 😊
Oh and if I have dirty footwear to pack, I wrap them in disposable shower caps. The elastic will keep the plastic in place. I also bring extra in case any of my other footwear gets dirty.
My first was born around 12 so i got lunch right after she was born and my second was born around 7 (pm) - just in time for dinner. I never had to wait long to get food and it was great.
@@HealthNutNutrition yes both were induced but the first labor was 28 hours so baby was born at noon the next day. Baby could well have come during the night, i got lucky!!:)
I was "Private" with mine, so that's 24/7 on demand in room dining (like a 5 star Hotel room service menu) so luckily it didn't matter when you delivered you could order up a feast.
@surlespasdondine : Nothing makes you hungrier than just giving birth. It's like the stomach finally has room to be filled again after being squashed up by baby and those breastfeeding munches are real.
i hope you have another girl bc i am an oldest sister like sage and only have brothers :) but boys are so fun as well, i have a son and he is my little bff! best wishes for a speedy labor and recovery 🫶🏼
I didn't shower till I came home either, I was afraid to stand on my own in the water. My fiancé did shower with me the first time because I felt like death and needed support Lol.
Bring bandaids tho, for me it took over an hour to get a hold of a baby nurse to bring a bandaid for my son. Just because it’s a hospital still doesn’t mean it will be perfect customer service unfortunately. Hope it is great for you tho!
My son was born with jaundice and my blood type makes all my children more likely to be jaundice so for my next I’m bringing syringes of colostrum, so as soon as they are born I can start feeding them, and pumping to help my milk come in. My son was in the NICU and I would pump and put in a little syringe and walk down to him and feed him, and we had to give him formula. So I’m hoping if I come more prepared it will be better. I only brought nursing bras and this time I’m bringing pumping bras so I don’t have to sit there and hold the dang things on. 😂
so true! our three year old suddenly wanted us to feed her again at meal times after baby was born lol When it comes to potty training she did not regress, however she saw mommy pee on the floor😆 After the birth I had zero control/feeling of my bladder for a few hours and just as I was about to go take a shower I peed on the floor of my hospital room in front of my toddler. I think she was delighted to see that she could hold her pee better than Mommy😅
I also didn't shower at the hospital! And we had to stay 2 nights. Lol. I didn't shower until I came home so probably 3 days pp. I just had no energy to stand up in a shower. Would I have accepted a bath like a child? Yes.. did anyone offer..no!!!! What the heck?!
I thought I would shower at the hospital, but I didn't for a lot of the same reasons you gave. No, it's not gross. But yeah I would shower too if it was diarrhea bad. Lol.
I feel like she packed so minimally! Where I live the hospital does not provide stuff so you have to bring everything plus hospital stay lengths also greatly differ from one country to the next. I brought a small suitcase when I went into labor and luckily I did because I needed almost everything I brought. It doesn't hurt anyone to be well prepared.
@@HealthNutNutrition best investment I made with my daughter. I was able to be a physical therapist assistant and see patients while providing for my daughter at the same time. 95% of patients never even heard the slight click
I showered as soon as I could stand, especially after my first labor which lasted 28 hours, a shower was what I craved most after giving birth. But if I hadn't felt like it I wouldn't have had one either. We have to listen to whatever feels right in the moment.:)

The hospital disposable underwear is really great and you can even ask for extras and take them home. I was debating on trying to comb tool for
Labour.. I might throw one in last min
They probably overcharge but with health insurance it still comes out cheaper just because you use so much, especially if you’re in there longer than one day due to complications.
How did you manage post partum hair loss and do you have tips to grow hair back quickly?
I def got it around 4+ months postpartum. I focused on eating, sleep, vitamins and also doing scalp massages with caster oil and rosemary oil
When should we start shopping and preparing for hospital bag?
I think it all depends. I mean it doesn’t hurt to start preparing as soon as possible. With my first baby, I didn’t prep until I was about 32 weeks. This time around I’m 24 weeks and I have my bag almost completely prepped. You never know when baby will arrive, so I say as soon as possible doesn’t hurt. 😊
Definitely try to get a video of your birth 🥹 my midwife got one with my second baby. I cry every time I watch it 🥹🙈
which changing pad was that?
A hair bow if it’s a baby girl 🎀
What is the lip/cheek stain you brought?
Good luck 😍
Oh and if I have dirty footwear to pack, I wrap them in disposable shower caps. The elastic will keep the plastic in place. I also bring extra in case any of my other footwear gets dirty.
smart!
You should do the pre pregnancy clothes try on before the baby arrives Lol 😂 It would be such a fun video to do and to look back on 😂
Don’t forget a mini fan!! ❤
My first was born around 12 so i got lunch right after she was born and my second was born around 7 (pm) - just in time for dinner. I never had to wait long to get food and it was great.
lucky! I have a feeling this baby will be a night birth as well. Were you induced? Is that why both deliveries were during the day?
@@HealthNutNutrition yes both were induced but the first labor was 28 hours so baby was born at noon the next day. Baby could well have come during the night, i got lucky!!:)
I was "Private" with mine, so that's 24/7 on demand in room dining (like a 5 star Hotel room service menu) so luckily it didn't matter when you delivered you could order up a feast.
I kind of was private too with my second, had amazing food but I don't think it was available outside of meal times. @@brilliantbutblue
Thank you mama! We’ll see I’m excited to find out
Not planning on getting pregnant but still watching 😂😂
haha I use to watch these too before I got pregnant
where's the link for the bra???
Where ur baby bag from
I didn't shower till I came home either, I was afraid to stand on my own in the water.
We had a good experience the first time but yes you can never be too prepared
I had a small urethral tear after my second baby. When i tell you i needed 2 full peri bottles for each toilet trip…
Yes!!
Good luck Nikole!
🥰
”im blind” 😂😂😂❤❤❤
Baby #2 Coming Very Soon!
So soon!
YES LOVE YOUR VIDEOS ❤❤❤❤ LOVE FROM ISRAEL PRAYING FOR EVERYONES SAFTEY ❤❤❤❤❤❤
My son was born with jaundice and my blood type makes all my children more likely to be jaundice so for my next I’m bringing syringes of colostrum, so as soon as they are born I can start feeding them, and pumping to help my milk come in.
My son was in the NICU and I would pump and put in a little syringe and walk down to him and feed him, and we had to give him formula. So I’m hoping if I come more prepared it will be better.
I only brought nursing bras and this time I’m bringing pumping bras so I don’t have to sit there and hold the dang things on. 😂
I love these bags but holy expensive!!!!!
Consider having some diapers on for Sage. The new baby is going to be a huge transition for her and regression in potty training is a possibility.
We have some back up diapers for sage still on hand. Hopefully she doesn’t regress too much 😆
so true! our three year old suddenly wanted us to feed her again at meal times after baby was born lol When it comes to potty training she did not regress, however she saw mommy pee on the floor😆 After the birth I had zero control/feeling of my bladder for a few hours and just as I was about to go take a shower I peed on the floor of my hospital room in front of my toddler. I think she was delighted to see that she could hold her pee better than Mommy😅
My hospital provided diapers, wipes, and formula
Makeup in hospital bag😂😂I get forget how I look also.
I think it's a girl. I wish you all the best. God bless you.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one 😅
Make sure to bring shower flip flops!!! Showers in the hospital are gross - FYI
Yes a must!
The shower in my room was really clean, I got lucky I think!
I thought I would shower at the hospital, but I didn't for a lot of the same reasons you gave. No, it's not gross. But yeah I would shower too if it was diarrhea bad. Lol.
okay Im glad Im not the only one! And yes def if there was a blow out I would shower off haha
I thought this video will be with newborn baby 😁
not yet, but I cant wait to share the exciting news when baby is here 🥰
I never understood how some women pack luggage like they are going on vacation lol, the hospital provides everything you need.
I know from my first that I way over packed and needed to cut it down to the things I really needed but you can never be to prepared
In France we are in hospital 4 days after birth so you need to bring more stuff
Love love my elvie. Only way I could pump at work
I just got one and am excited to try it out
@@HealthNutNutrition best investment I made with my daughter. I was able to be a physical therapist assistant and see patients while providing for my daughter at the same time. 95% of patients never even heard the slight click
I didn’t shower either and we were there for 3 nights 😬😬 whoops. Just wasn’t feeling it.
I showered as soon as I could stand, especially after my first labor which lasted 28 hours, a shower was what I craved most after giving birth. But if I hadn't felt like it I wouldn't have had one either. We have to listen to whatever feels right in the moment.:)
