I don’t have kids nor am I pregnant. I have NEVER heard someone talk about what to bring if you’re NOT married. Kudos to you because 1 situation does not fit all! Thank you for acknowledging that!
I don't understand what you mean by 'someone talking about what to bring if you're NOT married'. She stated 'she had a son'(apart from being a mother, she's also a Labour & Delivery Nurse) hence she's more than qualified to talk about the topic and just been married does not make you a mother.
She’s right, you do have to have an ID with you when you go into labor. You and your partner!! The only way you can fill out the birth certificate is with an ID.
@@khadijahadebayohe was referring to what some unmarried couples have to do when it comes to establishing parental rights for the other partner. I've never come into that issue, I was married with my first, but I'm not married to my current partner so it's good to have a heads up that it may be a different experience.
My first born seemed to be adored by the nurses and when they would take her for check-ups or to let me properly sleep, she would come back with a different knitted hat. It was so adorable 😍
When I had my first they put a little blue knitted hat on him. The midwife said I could keep it because they had an abundance of them from the old ladies in our town knitting and donating them. 17 years later I still have it ❤️
That is sweet. I have had 2 daughters. Both born by c - section. First c - section was after being in labor all day. I was in early labor most of that day and was having contractions that felt like Braxton hicks contractions but alittle stronger . Than my water broke and I wasn’t sure that is what happened so I called my dr and they said smell it , seriously! Reason is if it doesn’t smell like pee go directly to hospital. Well it did not smell like pee . I headed to hospital. In route to hospital contractions quickly become very strong and never seemed too end much between contractions. By the time they checked me for dilation I felt extreme pressure on rectum . They informed me baby had turned in breech position and was not able too be delivered vaginally and they had to do c -section. Second child I wanted to attempt a vaginal delivery and that was the plan but my child was showing sighs of distress at my check up and inducing labor would be risky if I had previous c - section so c-section was scheduled the next day. I was disappointed but knew c -section was needed. Healthy baby and healthy mom is what matters
I usually do not comment on videos but I HAVE to say I have watched SO MANY videos on this subject and yours BY FAR surpasses the others. It is informative, practical, helpful, funny, and to the point. Thank you for not making this an informercial with tons on brand name drops and unnecessary crap. GREAT job and thank you SO MUCH! I LOVE LOVE this video!
I’m a new mom and I’m 24 and feel so lost and uneducated on the whole pregnancy process. This was so encouraging and informative! I’m so thankful for this! It was amazing!
I’m also a soon to be mom and I’m 19, I feel the same way currently 30+5 weeks everything’s a bit overwhelming but this video made things more clear and reassuring 😩
I love this video so much! I watch so many "what's in my hospital bag" videos and this is so much better. You're not pushing any specific brands that are expensive. You're both breastfeeding and formula feeding inclusive. You understand that just because your hospital does something doesn't necessarily mean another does. I really appreciate this video so much and I love how straightforward you are and how well you explain the reasons for things from both a mother's perspective and a L&D nurse's perspective. 🥰
This is the ONLY video that expectant mothers and fathers should watch. This was easy to watch, comprehensive and so realistic. I’m 33 weeks and I’ll be getting my bag packed soon. Thank you!
With the blankets I’d definitely recommend bringing one for dad or your support perosn because the blankets in the hospital are really thin and they might not get as hot as you afterwards. That was definitely a huge help
I’m going on baby #3 and watch these videos every time I’m getting ready to pack. This is by far the best and most informative video. I always think people are so extra and silly when packing. This was so down to earth and didn’t feel like you were just trying to sell a bunch of brands. Thank you for this.
This was fantastic. My daughter sent me the link, she's expecting in 3 wks. Thank u for teacher these things, not only a new mom's perspective, but a nurse's. Win/win 🏆
I will forever recommend this video to first time moms. I watched this with my mom and she absolutely loved all of your insight. Most videos are just influencers promoting brands and unnecessary bulk to carry. This was so straightforward and I loved it Thank you so much for what you do!
Omg the brand promoting is so annoying! Especially for first time moms, or moms who are on a budget. It’s like, are you sure this $100-200 dollar thing is NECESSARY? cause they’ll swear it is
As a first time Mum at 24 this video is EXTREMELY helpful and informative. Never would I have thought about setting up a Pediatrician before birth. I've been asking for advice from a lot of Moms and not one has mentioned this.
Im about to have my second child and I still am watching videos like this. & This is by far the most helpful one Ive seen. Since the moment you mentioned “bring your ID” I was like “okay she knows her stuff.” The white sound recommendation..is smarrrt!! Thank youuu
This was awesome! Took lots of notes. I’m a first time mom to birth.. (I adopted, kids were 3-10) so the whole what to bring and not to bring for labor is completely new for me. This is gonna be a whole new experience!
This is wonderful. I've watched a lot of these type videos, even from labor/delivery staff, and this is the first one I've seen where the person wasn't condescending or rude about why you should or shouldn't bring certain items and went into depth about why. Thank you so much for your advice and kindness ❤️
Easily the most well informed and realistic video I’ve seen on what to bring and not to bring to the hospital. We’re on baby #3 but it’s been 5 years so I needed a bit of a refresher 😅
Nurse Bales, I really loved and appreciated this video as an expecting mom! Thank you so much for these tips. Is there any chance you could make one on postpartum care? It would really help all of us. Thank you!
Bring the speaker! I didn’t think I would need music but it was uncomfortably quiet while I gave birth and I was mortified by the.. sounds.. that escaped me while I pushed..
No baby here, but literally one of the best videos I've ever watched! I loved how you touched on topics that people normally wouldn't think about and it was really helpful to know!
Extremely useful! I had NO idea that a hospital wouldn't have baby nail clippers... That's shocking to me. So many videos I've watched have encouraged moms to bring less items from home, and rely more on what the hospital has on hand, so I appreciate knowing what ISN'T available there that I really should pack! I also didn't know about the carseat-outfit issue. I'm having a summer baby, so the going-home outfit will be lightweight anyway, but I'll keep it in mind for the following winter that I should invest in a cute and warm "car blanket" to go over the straps, instead of a puffy bear suit to wear, haha!
The hospital where I had my daughter had a white noise machine built into the ceiling in rooms on the postpartum floor! It was near the door so we heard basically nothing from the hallway and nurses were able to come in quietly it was great
You're so calming. I really pray that my labor and delivery nurses are as kind and patient as you. this video was also extremely helpful, thank you! :)
Wow you are straight to the point and direct about this video and I love it. Thank you for not wasting our time and telling us exactly what we need to know. New subscriber!
I agree with so much of this, however I will say with my first born we brought my husbands Xbox to watch movies on both during labor and after she was born and it was a life saver! When my daughter was sleeping we had little movie nights together and it was sort of a bonding moment!
I was thinking we would likely both bring our switches, but the point about games that can’t be paused or easily put down is a good one. Also maybe no games that are super frustrating?
From Indiana as well, pregnant with my first baby, this video is so informative! Definitely going to save this video to rewatch when it comes closer to time and share it to other new moms I know!
I used to work on the hospital and this is my first baby, you just made the most realist perspective I didn’t even think of down to the pillows, our hospital never has pillows either lol
Great video!! Only thing I disagree with is not bringing diapers, and I only say that because when I was with my sister during her delivery her hospital did NOT provide any diapers. We were both kinda shocked and thought it was standard. So definitely check with your hospital (or just leave a pack in the car and get them if needed).
Great information( love nurses! ) even being my 5th pregnancy it’s definitely helped and i agree on the many what to bring and not bring. I would definitely say make sure your partner has a blanket and pillow for Their sleeping arrangements and husband would have his own snacks and plan on buying hospital food from down stairs so mom doesn’t feel guilty and have to share. And I’m so glad I had a nipple shield for the breastfeeding moment where my nipple was raw! Can be painful for the first while but worth the pain starting out. Also calmoceptine is 100% the most effective best diaper rash cream on the market. Worth it’s weight in gold.
L&d/postpartum/antenatal nurse here.. totally agree with everything you said, especially the part about other children! For the car seat, totally agree but actually prefer if they don't bring the car seat up until day of discharge (less crowded in small, shared rooms) and not needed in l&d since we have separate units for l&d/post partum. Another big thing, is people not researching how to use their personal Breast pump, and bring it unopened to the hospital.. it's not my job to know how to use every pump on the market. I can give you generic guidelines but I don't know how to use your specific pump.
I wanted to bring in my breast pump for when the lactation nurse comes. She came last time I gave birth so I thought she could help me especially to see if I have the right flange size
Baby nail clippers is the non-obvious one I'm so glad I brought! Poor tiny girl was scratching her face that first night and we were able to take care of her nails right away.
I’m due any day now with my 4th baby, my youngest is 3 years old so it’s been awhile but feels soo different ! Love this rn as I usually over or under pack or just plain forget 🫠😂
This video was awesome! Straight to the point no brand dropping and your voice is freaking soothing. Not currently pregnant but in the near future 🤞🏼 so I’m def saving this video for future reference. Also loved the fact that you spoke about parents who are not married, and also info we don’t want others to know. I think many times people don’t think of that so this was awesome! Thank you!!! ✨
Very helpful list! What I'd add is check with your hospital. Many have lists like that as it really depends a lot on each hospital what they can and can't provide. About breast feeding pillows: I had a really small one formed like a bone and about the size of a neck pillow but filled with those little plastic balls. I had it for traveling but it's great in hospital as well because it is so small.
I’m only 22 getting ready to have my first. I’ve had so many women in my family say different things but this was really the final decider in what I need to bring and what’s personal choice. Thank you! I know this must have helped so so many other women aswell
I’ve watched these sorts of videos for years and finally being pregnant myself this is by far the most helpful and informative video I have ever seen. Thank you so much, sharing this with my husband too😊💜
First time mom at 21 and this video made me want to cry it was so informative (probably my hormones 😂😭) amazing job! I feel so much less stressed for when I give birth to my baby girl in October ❤️
Thank you! I’ve watched a lot of “what to bring” videos but this one definitely had some different items that no one else mentions. I love how practical you are. I will definitely be referring to this list when I start packing my bag in May!
Many people have said this already, but I’m gonna repeat it. Your list is amazing and many of the things you mention, I’ve never heard before. And this is my 4th one.
Currently almost 27 weeks and this was SO helpful. My hospital bag came in the mail last night and I’m super ready to nest and get everything prepared. THANK YOU ❤️❤️❤️
This was so informative because this is my first pregnancy and honestly feel like there is soooooo much I really don’t know and that lack of knowledge can be overwhelming. So thank you.
For the amount of money a hospital charges for a simple, straightforward delivery, it kind of drives me nuts that I need to remember to bring extra pillows to breastfeed and a sound machine because nurseries don’t exist anymore. Even as a nurse, you should not have to deal with lack of supply of something as simple as pillows.
Button up Jammie’s work so well for breastfeeding. He didn’t bring an xbox BUT we brought our roku stick and it was nice to have to watch On the pp unit!
Thank you for the upload! I've been told by parent's and by nurses from the prenatal classes that you should not cut a new born babies nails as its hard to differentiate between the babies nails and their skin at that stage and often parents will cut the babies skin. So as a first time mom I will be avoiding that and just covering their hands as much as possible.
I’m having my first baby soon so I’ve watched a lot of these types of videos and I knew there was a video out there that would explain what I actually need to know and should bring. Im gonna save this video, thank you 🙏🏽
My top recommendations are bring maternity clothes for the whole stay. I wore a robe over my nursing tank and maternity leggings the whole time. The long phone charger for sure! My own pillow was a life savor!! Definitely brought snacks and my husband brought a book
I was SO looking forward to getting a big 32oz hospital cup with lid and straw. My hospital gave me an 18oz cup with a lid and straw but because of covid my husband wasn't allowed to go refill it so I had to call a nurse everytime I needed water. Which I didn't do enough. I was terribly dehydrated. Next time I bringing my own big ol jug.
I watched another video that recommended bringing those bottled protein shake for moms for labor (I’m not sure if you are allowed to drink during labor in the US) but I thought that might be a good idea to add to the after birth snacks and drinks as well 🙂
@@gabetanon8104 I bet Germany does less c-sections than the US. I feel like the US does a lot of unnecessary interventions. I had labor for 3 1/2 days and I had to keep leaving and check out so I could eat
L&D travel nurse here. Some hospitals I’ve worked at require the car seat base weirdly enough. I never understood why, even asked nurses on the floor why and they never had a good reason, just had to follow the rules. So just clarify with your OB or your hospital when/if you do your tour.
Thank you so much I literally was able to make a great list while watching I’m 35 weeks and have been stressing about my hospital bag for weeks and asking family is like pulling nails
I love this straightforward and relaxed informative video. So many TH-cam videos are so phony sounding and just push a bunch of products. I love the down to earth style and learned a lot even with this being my second child
Both times I brought a pillow and blanket from home and neither time they got messed up. If I could only bring two things from home that's what I would bring. SOOOO much more comfortable than the ones that hospital provides. The hospital pillows are so flat and the blankets are not warm at all and it's always freezing!
As an auntie not having children, I'll be coming back to your channel and videos often. And thank you for acknowledging different scenarios, because one size doesn't fit all. I'm always trying to look out for mom's self care and mental health. And I want to be supportive of moms before and after the baby is here. And thank you for the things that I can put in care packages! By watching this, I can give my cousins who are moms/future moms the breaks they need when I'm called to. There's no manual when it comes to being a parent, and this is the closest thing to it, thank you! I really wish I had your videos in my early 20's when I first started being an auntie, because I wasn't sure how to help. With your videos by my side, I can just look and find the answers I'm looking for.
this is by far the best video i've watched and i'm 38 weeks 4 days already. i'm so sad i am only now coming across your vids and wish you were here to get me through my labor and delivery. sending this to my husband because he needs to know a few things here too. LOve your content so much i've subscribed right away.
This video was just soooooo INFORMATIVE! Iv seen so many videos that just blabber throughout their video! But this was so calm, informative and everything you mentioned deff were essentials!!!
My MIL recently took me to get some brand new baby clothes for our coming daughter, and I showed my husband our little haul afterwards. We agreed that our favorite is one with the long zipper mentioned in the video! I was already planning on maybe using that as the first clothing item to dress her in after birth, so it's good to know it's recommended!!!!
Thank you so much for taking your time on making this video, it’s really helpful!💕 I’m 37wks 5Days pregnant & didn’t know some of the things you mentioned. My husband & my mom are the only ones that I want in labor, specially bcus my mom knows exactly all of my health issues since I was born & my husband wants her there as well because she has been in every of my sisters labor. His mom says she wants to be there, but I’m not allowing that bcus she barely knows me & doesn’t know know nothing about my health, also bcus I’m a very private person & I feel more comfortable with my mom than his mom.
This is exactly how I had it, plus a doula. Like you my husband’s mom wanted to be there and I know that would have only stressed me out. Very important to have people who will bring you peace
Thank you so much. I feel way more prepared. I feel like I’ve been getting so excited about the baby that it’s building my nerves up for how the day will actually go. I feel a lot more ready.
My 4th baby is gonna be a c-section. She’s due to come out in 4 days, and I’ll tell you, this video has come in so handy. Rewatching again to make sure I don’t forget anything.
I love this video. I was naturally this way with my first. less is more. only packed toiletries, snacks, a going home onesie for baby and my book I was reading. for the second I am not having anyone w me. during that precious time, the nurse is the best friend you can have. everyone else is just noise and headache, even when they aren’t trying to be. that’s the one thing that I will do differently with the second. I haven’t even told anyone besides my coworker that I am pregnant anyway and I’m 16 weeks lol. it’s so much more peaceful this way.
OMG, I don’t believe how many videos I watched until I get here. Now, I need to take notes because no one talked about the things you brought on. Thank you so much Amy😊
I disagree with not bringing medication. I brought my Levothyroxine primarily to make sure they were giving me my correct dose and I'm so glad I did because even though I asked 4 or 5 times to get my medication, it was on my birth plan, my OB ordered it twice... no one ever brought it to me. I finally asked if I could just take what I brought and they let me and just noted iy in my chart. It was like 6 hours late but better than nothing.
You can actually ask your dr at the hospital to put an order in your chart saying something like, “Patient may take xyz medication from home independently.” This lets the staff taking care of you know which meds you’ll be taking on your own, and that the dr seeing you in the hospital has already given the okay.
THIS is the information I needed! Sometimes I feel like patients get dumbed down info and don’t get explained the processes of the hospital etc. I work in healthcare, so I understand a little, but I don’t know anything about L&D, so I really appreciate the why’s behind everything you suggested. Thank you!!
Thank you. Im not sure why this video popped up butnim sure glad it did. I am 24+3 pregnant. And I always wanted to know what i should or shouldn't take. I will definitely be looking back at this video when time gets closer to make sure I have everything I might need. Better to have than not to have it and regret it.
I remember watching this forever ago just interested… now here I am watching again, this time 9 months pregnant & actually needing this advice! Thank you!
@@koniquelovee936 Yay! My C-section at 39 weeks is scheduled for 14 days from today, 10/6! (I'm hoping she'll decide to join us a little sooner though😅)
Mom of two, very good & real recommendations! Def on the slippers, I had flip flops and thank goodness, because my feet were pretty swollen with all the IV fluids. I didn't know about the car seat weights!
I go to a huge hospital. The baby sees an in house pediatrician while admitted, but they need the pediatrician info because they call and schedule your babies first appointment before you leave. So you go home knowing that your appointment is scheduled ans ready to go ans not have to worry about it, and the hospital also gives the pediatrician all the birth information so its one less burden on the new mom to have records transferred. We sign a release obviously, but much simpler than leaving a new mom to scramble and have records transferred their first couple days home
Thank you for this! I went and double checked our car seat. I never would have thought about the minimum weight. Luckily ours is rated 4-30lbs and our son should already be past 4lbs. This was so helpful!
I’m 33 weeks and I know that soon I will have to sit down and put my hospital bag together 😬 it’s my first baby and I want to focus on only bringing necessities, because I know some people go a little crazy 😂 and I am trying to keep it as simple as possible lol
All of your bring items are items I brought! The fan was my hero during labour and just afterwards! 🙌🏻 the nurses were very impressed with it 😅 it was a tripod style fan and you can bend it around anything

That’s so amazing! Thank you so much for sharing if you happen to down the line, and good luck with your delivery! 🥰♥️
I am also located in Indiana! And expecting a little girl April 9th. Good luck with your delivery!
I used to work on the hospital and this is my first baby, you just made the most realist perspective I didn’t even think of down to the pillows, our hospital never has pillows either lol
This makes me more confident with the things that I bring to the hospital. Watched it twice in a row just to absorb it more. Thank you so much. :)
I’m so glad it was helpful! 🥰
I’ve watched this video several times. BY FAR the best one I have found. Really informative and straight to the point.
This video was so REAL and informative about things that most dont talk about. Thank you!
SO SO grateful for an LD professional to speak on this topic. Loved all the advice, thank you!!
Really really helpful video I’m 17 and 34 weeks pregnant and I honestly don’t know what’s best to bring but this helped a lot.
I’m so glad! You’re going to do great.
I'm 34 weeks pregnant and this IS the most helpful and practical video I've watched. Thank you!!!
I’m having a baby girl in October too! 💕
October girl mom here too ❤
October mom here too! Wish you all the best 💙
Having a girl this October as well. Hope we all have beautiful safe deliveries 🧡
Hope you had safe delivery 🎉❤
They won't give extra pillows if you ask for them?
A lot of hospitals don't have a bunch of extra pillows.
Button up Jammie’s work so well for breastfeeding. He didn’t bring an xbox BUT we brought our roku stick and it was nice to have to watch On the pp unit!
34 weeks and holy wow this was helpful. And no sponsored ads so that was great
I’m 40w1d today and this video was SO helpful! Thank you!!!
Having my first, this video was brilliant. So glad on my decision already to only have the hubby in the room no one else. Thank you for this video.
I’m so glad, I think that’ll make for a stress free delivery. Congrats and good luck!
I brought a waterproof cover then a pillow case and threw the covers away when I left. I ended up with a c-section so it wasn't as messy
I watched another video that recommended bringing those bottled protein shake for moms for labor (I’m not sure if you are allowed to drink during labor in the US) but I thought that might be a good idea to add to the after birth snacks and drinks as well 🙂
In a lot of hospitals mom can only have clear things just in case of emergency C-section.
@@kiwik2951 what?? That’s wild. I’ve only given birth in Germany and they let you eat and drink whatever you like during labor 😅
@@gabetanon8104 I bet Germany does less c-sections than the US. I feel like the US does a lot of unnecessary interventions. I had labor for 3 1/2 days and I had to keep leaving and check out so I could eat
This was so great to watch especially for a first time mom 💙
I’m so glad you liked it! Thanks for watching. 🥰
Omg this is my 3rd pregnancy but my kids are 8 and 6 so it's been a while! This is so informative and I appreciate it!!
Same! Mine are the exact same ages!
🍪
@@sadiejane610 yum thank you 😹
Thank you so much for taking your time on making this video, it’s really helpful!💕 I’m 37wks 5Days pregnant & didn’t know some of the things you mentioned.
Only right 💯
This is exactly how I had it, plus a doula.
I was wondering g about this! I’m on synthroid and I can’t even imagine leaving my meds at home just because I’ve had drs mess with my meds too much
You can actually ask your dr at the hospital to put an order in your chart saying something like, “Patient may take xyz medication from home independently.” This lets the staff taking care of you know which meds you’ll be taking on your own, and that the dr seeing you in the hospital has already given the okay.
Thank God for this video. Plus your voice is relaxing and not a loud, preppy, over exaggerated youtuber mom voice. Appreciate that.
This was insanely helpful. I’m on baby #2 and sound machine and boppy pillow are getting added. Would have helped a ton.
Thank you so much!! This is very helpful. I'm 25 weeks now and I've found this video gave me the idea of what to prepare:)
THIS is the information I needed! Sometimes I feel like patients get dumbed down info and don’t get explained the processes of the hospital etc. I work in healthcare, so I understand a little, but I don’t know anything about L&D, so I really appreciate the why’s behind everything you suggested. Thank you!!
Neverrrr heard someone talk about the ID thing or if the parents aren’t married. Thank you!
This helped me so much I’m a young new mom who had no idea what to bring. I just made my list of what I will need
Thank you. Im not sure why this video popped up butnim sure glad it did. I am 24+3 pregnant. And I always wanted to know what i should or shouldn't take. I will definitely be looking back at this video when time gets closer to make sure I have everything I might need. Better to have than not to have it and regret it.
Wow!!!! Thank you so so so much for this!!!!!!! I’m about 4 weeks from delivery and this was so helpful!!!!!!
Same here!
First of all thank you for making this video, there are no videos that I have seen that are this detailed really. Appreciate you keep on keeping on.
This was incredible, i’ve watched many videos but this is the first time I actually sat down and took notes ! Thank you and God Bless you!
That’s so great to hear! I wish you a speedy and uneventful delivery
This video was extremely helpful! I'm getting induced tomorrow night & this was definitely needed for people like me who like to over prepare 😅
Congratulations! I’m so excited for you!! Best of luck 🥰
It's been 10 years since my last birth but I'm due in August with baby #2. This is so helpful!
I’m so glad! Best of luck 🤍🤍🤍
Omg, this is my story as well! Congrats, mama! My only son will be 10 y.o. this year and I’m pregnant with my 2nd (a girl) due August ‘22!❤️
@@samanthajoseph6297 Congrats! I have a girl and I'm hoping for a boy this time.
I remember watching this forever ago just interested… now here I am watching again, this time 9 months pregnant & actually needing this advice! Thank you!
Omg me too when are you due?
I’m due in 2 weeks
I’m 30 weeks and this was very helpful, thank you!! I’m planning on also bringing a thank you basket (or 2) for my l&d nurses ❤
So glad i found this video, my baby is born anytime soon and i was planning on taking a puffy outfit but this helps me much more thank you.
The check mark on your shirt lined up perfectly with all the text you put on the screen and it made me smile
Thank you for this video! As a new mom to be (December 23rd 2023) i feel more confident & prepared after watching this! 🩵
Glad I watched this! Pregnant with my 3rd, but unmarried this time and did not know about needing my partner's ID.
