I was lucky enough to be born into a house with music. My dad loves to play piano, and he wasn't the most talkative person, but when he started to play piano, you could feel him speaking to you. When I was 2 years old, he would sit me on his lap and play this song. When I was 14 years old, he was diagnosed with cancer, and they told him he wouldn't live to the end of the year (it was August) He lived for two more years, defying everything the doctors had told him. He died surrounded by his family, and his last words to me were, "never stop playing, can you please, play for me? And not forget me? Can you do that for me?" At his funeral, I was asked if I would play a song, and I chose to play this song, the song he played while I would sit on his lap. The song that could bring back a thousand memories. And now, 8 years later, I sat down at the piano with my beautiful 2 year old girl, who we decided to name Claire, and played this song for her.
Hearing Claire de Lune reminds me of my step mom. She wasn't "religious" so there weren't hymns played at her funeral but she loved piano music and this was played.
I have only recently come to know this piece by Debussy, and have listened to it many times played by many pianists. But even if I listen to it everyday for the rest of my life, I do not believe I shall ever hear it more beautifully played by anyone else. It is crystal clear, delicate, and pure.
Doubtful; most of his compositions are trash. This one is timeless and considered a masterpiece (which I can appreciate), but it is grossly over rated. This piece is for academia, not the common listener of music
Well, well this is an excellent interpretation as he respects the rhythm it makes so much sense. The rubato is judged beautifully the touch is exquisite. The balance between voices is delightful. Just brilliant!
If someone put a gun to my head and told me to say my favorite piece for the piano Claire de Lune would likely be what I’d say. Kissin’s playing here is one of the best.
One time, I watched a full moon throught the bay window as I listenend to Clair de Lune. The shimmering brightness of the far away moon and the luminous yet contemplative interpretation of Mr. Kissin brought a lump in my throat. What a magical moment that was!
Writing music like this` simple, light and genius... Is something unbelievable..But performing this music and adding more air and more art in it- Is not about just reading the notes... That's a huge connection between performer and composer. Connection that makes this kind of performance..
Claire de Lune is often played by intermediate students who tend to butcher it. When in the hands of a master like Kissin it’s true beauty shines brilliantly.
I play this piece too, but Kissin has the genius to put all the beautiful nuances in the right places with his brilliant expertise. He even makes the simple ascending melodic notes at the end of the piece sound truly divine ✨ 😍 👏👏
the color of his chord and arpeggio is so beautiful. especially I would feel his key board articulation and aogyk is veryvery graceful. Occasionally I love to listen to Victor Borge with orchestra. He is also so graceful. They say that "Beethoven said Tempo is Music" (90yrs.Japanese)
Maravilhosa! Parabéns!
The mature Evgeny Kissin - more and more like Daniel Barenboim, whose greatness knows no bounds. I have never seen Kissin emote so much, but this is none the less one of the most straight forward renditions of Debussy's Claire de Lune. None the less, it reveals music's subtle beauties.
wow‼️thank-you thank-you thank-you for uploading it. What a beautiful harmonic tone that echoes endlessly and spreads forever! The drops of moonlight spilled over the lake and bounced and scattered quietly. Above all, listening to the tone woven by Kissin is the best✨🌕️✨1:20-2:08 is my fav part.
Very good rendition. I imagine this is very close to how Debussy intended it. Many pianists play the arpeggiated parts very fast and loud, and while I don’t mind the speed for the most part, it causes them to slam down on the keys and it takes away from the subtle emotions

This made me cry, all of it, including your little girl’s name. Thank you for sharing your dad’s beautiful legacy of music and love 💕
Conmovedora historia.
Waouh !
Waouh !
Why did you steal this story from another person to get likes? You are really pathetic
This was my dad’s favorite piece of music. He’s been gone since 2013, but when I hear this I think of him and tear up a bit. Beautifully done.
My mom's fav too.
One of my fav pieces. I play this piece often, my son gets sick of it. I believe when I’m gone, he will miss me when hearing this song too.
Thank you so much for this comment
The humility and modesty of this perfect rendition is stunning. What a man has matured from the youth.
You have expressed what I couldn’t put into words.......exquisite
So true. Listen to the space between notes. It make such a diference in his palying.
Definitely! That exactly is what I wanted to write about him!
So true! This is heavenly.
I have listened to like a 100 performances of this piece, and the search is OVER. Every second is pure magic.
This.
There's only one Evgeny Kissin. ❤
Kissin is unique.
100%
A master piece, of course ❤
Hearing Claire de Lune reminds me of my step mom. She wasn't "religious" so there weren't hymns played at her funeral but she loved piano music and this was played.
Bestes Stück für Ihren Abschied. Das möchte ich auch so haben.❤
One of the greatest piano performer in modern time
It’s so beautiful and breathtaking
Amazing rendition, Kissin magical performance.
This one and liebestraum no. 3 always touch my soul.
SIM! Eu tenho um admiração enorme por ele
It's my favourite piece, too...soulful
I saw his live performance in Netherlands... so good

Tiffany Poon, her version is magic as well
Try also Daniel Barenboim in 2021, it’s on TH-cam, I couldn’t say who is the best , they are in the same league !
it sounds so much better slowed down
@@Fanfanbalibar explaining the left hand's work on this piece ;)

they are not competing why should we ! :)
This makes my heart ache. Music touches all languages, and all people, rich and poor. Absolutely beautiful.
Superb! This is pure magic. He makes piano sound as Orpheus' lyre... His playing is simply extraordinary! Bravissimo Maestro Kissin!
So true!!
The day DeBussy finished this masterpiece,....do you suppose he could have even fathomed just how perfect this piece really is??
Doubtful; most of his compositions are trash. This one is timeless and considered a masterpiece (which I can appreciate), but it is grossly over rated. This piece is for academia, not the common listener of music
@@mserth22 good joke

@@mserth22 clearly not everyone has taste or common sense, thanks for reminding the rest of us
This song brings back my son’s few memories of him playing this. No more left from then…
OMG the pace is great, the pauses are so natural. This is true mucisionship
i love kissin so much you're so lucky to have seen him when he was young!!

I never thought I would hear an interpretation that would move me as much as Sviatoslav Richter's - but this does.
I took a look at Richter and I think this one personally its better. The flow of the music is so nicely paced
If only Richter's did not include the unstopabble moskovskiy couphing...
One time, I watched a full moon throught the bay window as I listenend to Clair de Lune. The shimmering brightness of the far away moon and the luminous yet contemplative interpretation of Mr. Kissin brought a lump in my throat. What a magical moment that was!
absolutely chilling and stunning rendition. I could have cried, but was fully absorbed in processing the tactful arpeggiation
such a wonderful sound, kissin's expression is just gorgeous
I love the feeling of laying back and watching the moon rise over the ocean. I love the lazy atmosphere Kissin's interpretation

Evgeny plays any piece as it’s his own. That is talent. As a side I love the impressionist scale
It is so beautiful. He is so simple, modest. It is a deep pleasure listening to this wonderful person.
Truly besutiful rendition of something ethereal and not of this world
Such delicate and exquisite playing, thank you maestro for all the years of joy and delight and great emotion ❤️
My beloved version!!!
Wow, just by looking at the expression on his face whilst playing this piece gives you an idea of the emotional depth hidden in this composition
The piano sounds so good
I agree. It sounds soooo good.

Colosal, sublime, magnifico!!
Bravo Maestro!
Beautiful! I wish the audience had allowed a few more moments of silence :)
Beautiful, and wretched with sadnees and regret. A pure song of life.🎉
Another brilliant Kissin performance. Is he not top 5 of all time?
Thanks for uploading this video. Wonderful piece of music and beautifully executed. What a nice treat for the ears !.

Favorite piano piece played by favorite pianist
Nice!!!
The ability to interpret pauses and keep the rendition both seamless and musical is so difficult. This is how it is done. Sheer perfection.
That piece is one of my favourites. The whole suite is fantastic, of course, but that one has a special shine.
As a pianist, this is dedication and talent. This girl had to of been a child prodigy. Nice work !
Girl?
Claire de Lune is often played by intermediate students who tend to butcher it. When in the hands of a master like Kissin it’s true beauty shines brilliantly.
I have seen many intermediate students who did not butcher the piece, everyone learns, nobody is perfect
But he sure does play the song brilliantly
Hey we’re trying our best!
Yeah this is really a difficult piece, but many people don’t realize that and dive headfirst into it
I play this piece too, but Kissin has the genius to put all the beautiful nuances in the right places with his brilliant expertise. He even makes the simple ascending melodic notes at the end of the piece sound truly divine ✨ 😍 👏👏
This is toxic tbh
With subtlety and grace, he presents an experience of "moon" that is in the score for all to see, but few depict in their playing.
the color of his chord and arpeggio is so beautiful. especially I would feel his key board articulation and aogyk is veryvery graceful.

To my way of thinking this is the loveliest performance of Debussy EVER. (I know I’m wrong.) Exquisite. Evgeny gets to the heart of the matter.
Qué maravillosa interpretación!!
Extraordinarily sumptuous how his fingers make love to the keyboard, teasing out each and every nuance--the consummate lover.
this is pure ecstacy.
