I think this is the real Beethoven, right up and down, with no strange interpretations or other peculiar oddities in it. And with that said, he is a genious.
Check out berenboim's performance of the beethoven sonatas. I feel he plays them as they shoudl be played: as late classical/early romantic pieces, not late romantic or early contemporary.

Kissn est alors âgé de 16 ans ! Éblouissant, puissant et si mature déjà. Puis une deuxième fois aux "Fêtes musicales de la grange de Meslay" pour un hommage (Préludes de Chopin) à Sviatoslav Richter décédé l'année précédente en 1997. Impressionnant et encore plus dans la maîtrise total de son art de musicien-pianiste-interprète. E. Kissin a eu la gentillesse de m'offrir son autographe sur la page de garde d'un livre à propos d'Orphée. Un jeune homme simple, abordable, gentil et très courtois.

One could set a clock by him his timing is always so accurate. A prodigy as a child he has taken his talent safely and progressively into maturity and delights audiences wherever he plays. His Widmung is a very fond memory for me. This Beethoven is definitive, and admirable. Thank you for this download.
Kissin is undeniably incredibly talented and his technique is flawless, though I really do not like his style here. Especially for Beethoven, I feel he plays a little too fast and too much pedal. Absolutely love his Rachmaninov though!

First performance of the Eroica Vars that I ever enjoyed...what were the several others missing. I guess it was vitality and preciseness of touch. Perhaps the Verbier brings out exceptional performances from most guests not that this was exceptional for EK, but that he was exceptional compared to all those others. Thanks for the video.
There is only one thing wrong with Kissin’s playing: He doesn’t do it often enough in Montreal Canada. Come one Mr Kissin!!! We love you over here as much as over there:)))) It has been years since your last visit.
May 2019, I saw Kissin at Carnegie Hall. He played Chopin, Schumann and Debussy, a superb concert! Two months later, he is at Verbier, playing an all Beethoven program! Amazing! Genius! Thank you for posting this concert! And thank you, Maestro Evgeny Kissin for your art!

I have to say when reading comments ...people who say it should have been done with a slower tempo and there were those who said it should have been with a faster temp...isn't this all a matter of interpretation..? This performance was at the peak of professional piano playing ..how and why could anyone who is not up on the stage themselves make statements like that...now if they would say I " I prefer a faster tempo" that is ok ..but to say " it was supposed to be .." I just don't think that is the right way to put it.
A new discovery for me, so looking forward to some of the other recitals. My favourite to date has to be Martha Argerich, and her duets with her childhood friend Daniel Barenboim are very special.

@@johnbanach3875 tough one, Zimerman's Beethoven concertos with Bernstein are imo the best ever recorded but I think Kissin's Liszt sonata is better than Zimerman's even though Zimerman's is sort of revered as the goat, plus Kissins live repertoire is unmatched, I'm a fan of both but I listen to more Kissin.

@@johnbanach3875 tough one, Zimerman's Beethoven concertos with Bernstein are imo the best ever recorded but I think Kissin's Liszt sonata is better than Zimerman's even though Zimerman's is sort of revered as the goat, plus Kissins live repertoire is unmatched, I'm a fan of both but I listen to more Kissin.

For decades I am always emotional moved when I hear and see him playing (Rotterdam, De Doelen, Amsterdam The Concertgebouw). The technical independence and equality of his both hands mades incredible sound.
His touch is insane. I also think the Steinway does have a big impact in this case.
