Saying that the first phrase begins, "in the air" as opposed to the second time with a more elaborate left hand being, "on the ground" is such a simple but beautiful metaphor. It's perfect. I'll never hear it the same way.

Quant à moi, votre enregistrement des nocturnes de Chopin a bercé toutes mes années d'université, et je mesure toutes les autres interprétations par rapport aux vôtres. i now understand why debussy was once titled as the 'monet of piano', his pieces are phrased so beautifully yet still robust and firm, it is beautiful how he can shape it using odd chords or phrasing/rhythms in his pieces which can complement other phrases in unimaginable ways. He is an impressionist of music.

@@kitbeethoven no. he's saying this is what *I* notice about it - Debussy would be the first to agree that no piece of music is a formula that must be precisely followed - also I find myself appreciating the piece even more after this little insight into the chord progression: mission accomplished

Wonderful exposition, I've been in love with this piece since the first time I listened to it, and I felt the contrasts going on the harmony, but didn't pay attention to the way its developed throughout the joints of the melody. From someone who start listening to music, thank you for sharing your knowledge and your thoughts.
