As a professional driver that has passed 4 driving tests I know exactly what you have been going through.
I have done my car test in 1986.
My bus driving test in 2012.

Congratulations! I'll pass on the advice that my dad gave me when I passed my test - now that you have passed your test you can learn how to drive properly! I never really understood this until I was in the car on my own with nobody telling me where to go or what to do 😮

This. 100% - and also as I've recently told my own kids, anyone can 'drive' a car, but it takes a lot more work to drive in traffic. Your own ability is only as good as being able to read and predict those around you.

My Dad as well. I'm a hgv driver I've passed two tests😂lol but with I must admit folk who haven't driven hgv thinking it's like driving a car .. hmmm I every day have near misses...... dad's advice EVERY DAY YOU ARE LEARNING .... the worst drivers are the ones who think they passed, that's it my road now stuff you all 😮 For everyone who uses the road from pedestrian cyclists horse riders car drivers hgv drivers....... we all need to look out and after each other.... LET US ALL GET HOME SAFE AND SOUND AT THE END OF THAT JOURNEY..I have seen some horrible sights over the years, my god 😢 I don't want to see any more

Agreed, learning how to pass a driving test and learning how to drive properly, including much better anticipation and driving more safely, are two entirely different techniques. As my driving instructor once said, the only driver on the road who usually knows what they're going to do next is yourself, and no one else.

I made the mistake of passing on my first test. After going over the speed limit and clipping the kerb I relaxed and thought 'Well Iv'e failed so now just enjoy the drive'. Then there was an uphill traffic jam with about 12 hill starts. Bingo I passed. I agree 100% with the advice to not second guess the examiner just keep cool and enjoy the drive.

    • @robertallen3441
      @robertallen3441 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Similar here, on my first test my examiner asked me to pull into the kerb, so put on LH indicator and pulled in and stopped. Then drove away without putting RH indicator on, thought thats it, i've failed. Carried on with the test and at the end the examiner asked me what you should do when pulling away from the kerb. Told him to put the RH indicator on, examiner smiled and passed me.

    That's huge relief!
I somehow managed pass three different tests at first time, car, truck and truck/trailer (it was 22 meters long) combination, i was always so nervous on those tests.
Now when you have license to drive just use it just as much as you can, that's good way to learn traffic.
Worst thing you can do now is quit driving, then it's so hard to start it again, but I don't think that's happening 😄

Good advice re- if you think you've failed to not give up. I recently took my motorcycle test, 10 minutes in to my part 2 (road ride) I was convinced I'd made a huge error of judgement and failed. I spent the remaining 30 minutes of the test convinced, I was cursing myself, that I'd failed. I returned to the test centre expecting a huge telling off. It was all in my head, I had passed with one minor (not related to what I thought). Congratulations on passing your test!

Anxiety can be crippling and stop someone from doing a lot in life. Wonderful to hear you've passed.
If the examiner had asked Mis Hubnut, "do you know where the dipstick is?
    What would the answer be?
"Ian is walking round Aberystwyth somewhere looking at wipers".😂
You're both a great team, it can be difficult to teach someone close to you a new skill. This just proves how strong your bond is.

My mother made me driving a manual transmission, and grateful that she did. Got mine when I was 19. Now at a point that I like an automatic, but can drive a manual should I.
I failed mine the first time, I was so upset. My second time it was short, and I passed. I was thrilled!

Congratulations misshubnut!! I am so pleased for you well done! Learning to drive is one of the most stressful things ever to do as there is so much to think about etc. I’m an old bugger so passed my driving test 3rd time back in October 1991. I was a very nervous 17 year old that as the youngest in my school year was under even more pressure as my best friend had been driving for 6 months before I could even learn to drive. I was one of the first people to do parallel parking in my test as it had been recently been introduced. I found learning so stressful as I’d been riding a motorbike since my 16th birthday so was already on the road for a year before I could learn in a car so was so impatient. Anyway I wouldn’t be surprised if nervousness and stress are the biggest reason people fail. My wife and daughter took more tests than me before they passed purely due to stress and anxiety. My son was the last in our family to pass his test and he did it first time which we were so pleased about as he was so stressed. We prepared by driving around the area of the test centre so he was familiar with the roads and did this every night for around 2 weeks before his test. As it turned out he had nothing to worry about. The first thing the examiner did was talk to him and ask him what he did as a job. She continued to chat with him through his test which relaxed him no end and so he drove really well. When I did all three of my tests the examiner didn’t say a word apart from the instructions of the route we were taking. Well done Carly enjoy your new found freedom!!
    Good luck to Littlemisshubnut!

Well done, Miss Hubnut! I passed my motorcycle test first time in 1965, my car test first time in 1966, then bus (semi-automatic) in 1971 followed by a bus (manual) in 1972, so I know the tension surrounding these life events. Now I'm in my 70s I still learn things when out driving. I always remember COAST = Concentrate on what you're doing; Observe what's around you; Anticipate what others are gooing to do; Give yourself Space to do stuff; and give yourself Time to manoeuvre.

And it was so frustrating because I knew I was a good and safe driver but every test there was always something that would go wrong right on the day of the test. Absolute congratulations for passing your test. I know full well how devastating stress, anxiety, depression and psychological/mental problems can be when on your test. It took me 4 time to pass mine and it was simply just my head stopping me, but I ended up taking my last test in my own car that was a 1985/86 Scoda 120 Estelle and it was that and test instructor who came out of retirement to cover sickness and holidays who was really fantastic and told me he really proud I had the courage to go in my car given my instructor changed his Peugeot 309 none power steering diesel for a Peugeot 306 TD with power steering a week before my test and I had less than two hours practice with power steering and it just wasn't enough time and I would have failed due to it, so my driving instructor maid sure my car was road legal and advised my to take it in that as a family member had help me with extra experience driving it, and the test instructor did say it was the best thing to do after he asked why.i did almost fail still as I made serious mistake, but I did instantly know what I'd done, so he asked me to park up at the sade of the road and after acknowledging he did know I'd realised my mistake he asked me what I did wrong and where it was and because I was able to full explain what I did and what I should have done, he told me that it was one of those times that could have instantly failed me but as he knew I knew straight away and was able to explain it he didn't put it as a fail just a minor mark. So as Carly said just by making sure you're fully aware and make sure the test instructor is fully aware and try to stay calm and focused, you can really suprise yourself. I had my provisional licence from 17yrs old but was in my early 20's before actually trying to learn as I was that nervous and afraid and it was the fact that my father who was then in his early 50's started learning to drive himself that spurred me on to start 6 months later as I felt that if he could do it at his age then I can definitely do it, so he spoke to his instructor and 30 some years later I'm still enjoying the drive.

Congratulations! I am one of those weird folks who has taken two driving tests --- and passed both! I passed first time in the UK in 1992 and then I had to take a test here in the USA, although with almost 10 years of UK driving behind me, passing in Maine wasn't hard and (at the time at least) the Maine test was cake compared to a UK test: no hill start, no reversing around a corner, no parallel parking, no emergency stop....really. My own daughter has now passed her test, a 50/50 effort from driving school and "Dad's school of unwanted foreign anecdote input" :) Good work, Ian, like most things in life it's not easy to impart wisdom on those closest to us but it's so rewarding when you can. Look forward to a new angle on Hubnut and of course Hub:TNG :)

    Congratulations Carly!
Having done quite a few tests myself (2x car, 1x 7.5t and 2 Class 2 HGV's) the car one is actually the hardest one to do! You're starting from zero so have to prove everything to the examiner whereas for the further classes you are just proving you can handle the larger vehicle size safely. Add in a bank of prior experience from cars and it's so much easier the more you do.
Oh and never forget that you've now passed your test but you now have a lifetime of learning how to actually drive in every situation!

YAAAAAAAAAAY. Good job Carly. Your testing seems quite a lot more challenging than what we have to endure here in Canada. Keep the shiny side UP!! And congrats Ian, your student did you well.

Congrats Ms Hubnut - well done. I remember when I got my licence in 1973 I got complimented by the policeman who was taking the test which pleased both me and my father no end. Both of my brothers suggested that I learned how to pass the licence and now I had to learn to drive even though they had both helped me on L plates. I did over 8000 miles on L plates but it was country driving. My first driving in Melbourne was an experience!

CONGRATULATIONS. CARLY! 🥰Now you've passed your test, you start learning to drive!! I passed my test back (first time) in June1967, when the provisional licence was £1.00, and so was the driving test. Everything was so much simpler then... I passed my bike test (again first time) the following October, and that was in the days when the examiner jumped out in front of you for the emergency stop!

Well done Miss Hubnut, its been a long time for you but i have been so impressed by your mental approach to driving that will keep you in good stead which i think is overlooked.
Also well done to Mr HubNut. All that driving tuition and you have learned more about roadcraft, perhaps you can setup the HubNut School Of Driving 😂.

I followed your experiment ever since chemi's engine swap. I am convinced that miss hubnut is the type of person who struggles a bit more to pass her test because of her nerves but once it's done she will drive better than most drivers.
What's also intresting is to see the english system to pass your driving licence, as a french. It's quite somilar to France's system, but what's a lot better in the UK is the fact that you can pass your test in a car you know. In France it's the instructor's car, so you have to discover it.
    Again, Congratulations !

That's great news. Having helped both my boys get their full car and full motorbike licences, I can relate to the intense disappointment when they fail and the the elation when they pass, and neither passed either test the first time so we ran the whole gamut of emotions. It's definitely a rite of passage.

Yeah Carly, you’ve finally done it, congratulations my ansum & to Ian on instructing you.Whilst researching the green P Probationary plate that you may or may not be going to stick on to Chemmi to let other road users know you are a newly qualified driver, did you know, because of your location, Wales, you could have also stuck a red D plate on yer car as well, D meaning = Dysgwr = Learner ? i dread t’think how i would fare in the modern driving test. T’was November 1975 when i passed mine on the second attempt aged 17. Started learning on my driving instructor’s car in the August, a bright yellow Mk3 Cortina, but after only about a couple of months, Dave had traded that one in fer one of the new Mk2 Escorts in red, a much more sensibly sized car fer learning on. 👍

Congrats Miss HubNut and indeed Mr. Hubnut for the pass!
This will truly change things for the channel and the family. (-:
I got my license quite late. I didn't go for it as soon as I was allowed. (no interest even though I loved cars back in school).
I passed the computer theory test first try. It is called Learner Driver, which requires a red and black L magnet on the backs of our cars. They're red and white now.
I'm in my Novice stage which requires an N which is green and white. Used to be green and black. Got it first try. Novice allows us to drive alone. But it only allows one passgener or two if one has a full license. I tried to go for the full license a couple years ago but failed. They're quite strict here. Have to have at least %85 result to pass.
Been driving since 2013. I love driving and it has brought so much freedom.
