Bought a brand new R5 in 72. When getting on the pipes it would wheelie 1st to 3rd every time. I tried to see if I could get it to not wheelie by having my girlfriend sit on the gas tank facing me and wack the throttle in 1st gear and yeah still would wheelie no problem. I had Ported it and put expansion chambers on it. Bike was pretty stout. I remember coils were a weak point so I bought 2 car coils that I mounted on the frame up rights. Timed Bike with a micrometer. I kept on blowing 2nd gear and never considered getting a RD cause they had 6 gears in same size case. Sold Bike and still miss it to this day. Neighbor had a 69 XLCH and said it was an Egg Beater until we drag raced and I beat him. 😁 Did a few 250 to 350 upgrades for people, was a easy job 100cc+ port job the guys thought I was a genius.
Holy cow 52 years old. It looks brand new. I love the paint job. The whole bike looks gorgeous in the Sun I love how the Chrome glistens in the Sun. 52 years old. Amazing sir. Great video Ronnie. Best on the East Coast
Yamaha does know musical magic, internal combustion, strings, reed, and percussion. When I hear RD/RZ, I think Banshee, because that is where I heard it first. Awesome bike, Ken.
That’s a beautiful color sounds amazing and for 250. I’m sure it screams like a two-stroke although I’d wanna ride it too much and it’s better off in a museum type atmosphere.
I Love Yamaha but the small v8 they developed for Ford/Lincoln were famous for cam spockets breaking & destroying the engines. I use to hate opening one up.

I rode my mates RD 350 back in 1974. The bike was brand new and it has taken me 50 years to get one of my own. Cheers
Had this very year of this model. Put some expansion pipes on with peashooter ends TZ copies with no silencer cans. My neighbours loved me lol.

Yami's were always my favorite, if they made a car, I'd buy one.
