1971 Yamaha YDS7 250cc resurrection

1971 Yamaha YDS7 restoration. this was imported from the USA. no idea which state it came from. It was a very neglected wreck. A big thank you to Adrian who came over and helped me with the timing. Parts came from the USA, Switzerland, Germany and the UK.

Well done that man! Mine was a running restoration when I got it, although crank oil seals were gone for a start, but yours was on another level! Enjoy it, you deserve it.

Marvellous, it's a credit to you.
I got mine after a CZ 125, it was the best bike I ever owned.
My uncle got one shortly after : we did a 300 mile trip to the Lake District,
and on a memorable day we did the off-road trail from Kilnsey Crag to Malham Tarn (Mastile's lane).
With your chunky scrambler tyres, you'd have enjoyed Mastile's lane.

My grandad had one of these. He fitted a rickman fairing to it. My grandparent used to go everywhere on it.

I owned one of these bikes in 1974 but it started to run only on one cylinder and I failed to find the fault so I part exchanged it for a GT380. The fault was a partially blocked exhaust.

I got my brothers yds7 in 1977 and it too ran on one cylinder a lot of the time! Sold it to buy a car one winter. Gt380 nice smooth triple.

@@knowbuddy0 Check the pipe joining the two carbs together, It is the small pipe that is on the inside of the two carbs .

Just a bought a yds7 in excellent condition, should have cleaned the inside of petrol tank, think ive dragged some rust into the carbs there flooding through the overflow pipes the floats are sticking, and won't start due to fouled wet plugs😢

I put two inline filters on mine even though the tank is clean. When they are on song they should great.

@@Daves_classics That's exactly what a motorbike mechanic suggested to do, having the carbs serviced and tank cleaned and in line filters fitted, as I'm not confident to do the work myself, the bike was running well until I filled the tank and must have disturbed some loose rust in the tank, thanks for your reply 👍

Bought one of these brand new in 1972 at a cost of £250. Crashed it a few months later unfortunately.

@@Daves_classics it put me off motorbikes , I was doing about 60 when a car pulled out and ended up with a broken pelvis. Used to like biking as well but these things happen don’t they.
