      I've been wanting to make one and travel after im done with college. My questions are how hard or different is it to drive vs a normal car on the highway and in the city and avg mpg. And im not sure if you guys put it in a different vid (this is the first one I've watched) but how much was all your solar and electrical like batteries, converter panels etc. Thanks and I appreciate the vid!

    I love watching these videos. I learn or get new ideas from each and every one of them. Love the convertible/bed/booth/desk with his multi-angle tabletop, the walk through and the second sleeping area. If it were me, I would have gotten a rig a couple feet longer to accommodate a bathroom, but then, I'm a woman and our priorities are different.

      Luggable Loo, makes a portable 5 gallon toilet - that costs about $20. Use Compost and/or absorbant Horse Bedding Pine Pellets (Tractor Supply) to cover up your pee and poo, without any odors. And just like diapers you can throw in the trash. If you put a trash bag in the bucket, you can legally toss it in a trash can with no problems.

    For your window coverings, I would use some iron on interfacing. It will make the fabric stiff and easy to apply over the top of your reflective covers. You could do black fabric, like you said, but a textured fabric would also look nice. I'm picturing a faux leather or suede in a brown that matches your counters and table. That, or any fabric that is textured, like linen or hemp or even sokething that looks like rattan. They have natural rattan that has a super tight weave/no holes.

    Hi u tubers part of the reason to get rid of the overhead door is safety. The over head door can be pad locked down so that you cannot raise it and have to exit through the pass through to the cab. Which can have the front doors blocked by a vehicle parked too close on each side. Another important reason is the eventual failure of the balance springs and cables that help to support the weight of the door when you raise it up. With interior finish and cabinets these springs and cables will be difficult or near impossible to access. Also a framed rear wall can be insulated much better than the overhead door Have a nice day. Tom up in Canada

  • @Karina-gs9bc
    @Karina-gs9bc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ok I have your next PROJECT for another TODAY = take an Ikea cabinet off each side of the the higher wall area, and lower each one on either side of the wall behind the couch, like on the back of the driver's and passenger's seats.
    Then the upper loft bed could become two single beds, divided in the middle, where your door to the cab is. With the foot portions of each twin bed, on a slide out support, that can be made easily. Then you get up to your bed by using Craig as your lift up step, for either side of the two beds you create. Then the living space below doesn't need to be made up as much, since both your sleeping areas would be above. Only needed when you might have a guest or two.

    • @project_today
      @project_today  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow this would be a project! But it sounds very intriguing, if we could pull it off that would add a ton of space to our sleeping arrangements!

  • @westcoasthockeybias37
    @westcoasthockeybias37 ปีที่แล้ว

    I forget how good Ikea is for buying space saving stuff. Great idea to go there for the cabinets. I wonder what the cost difference is between buying some of this stuff that fits specific spaces on Amazon and making it. One cool thing about shopping online is you can enter the exact dimensions of a space you're trying to fill and it will bring up everything that fits.
    TBH, I was a little scared of that kitchen setup. You guys should put a fireproof backsplash behind the burners. You also need some kind of hood or ventilation from the smoke as you cook. I'd definitely be a little concerned about a gas leak with that propane tank being on the inside. Between that, the sink not having a faucet/real running water/a legit gray water container, I think I might just cook outside & dedicate that area for some other living space purpose.
    I love a lot of the ideas. You definitely got me thinking about the U-Haul option. 120,000 miles isn't that much for an engine like that. The towing capacity is also insane on those trucks. You'd have to buy something like a $50,000 Toyota Tundra to get that kind of towing capacity otherwise.
    BTW, since you don't have a bathroom setup & you like to work out, you might consider a Planet Fitness membership. I think a black membership is $25 per month & it entitles you to bring a friend in for free. They're open 24 hours and it's a great way to be able to take showers and use the bathroom. They have almost 2400 locations and you can usually park your rig in their parking lot for the night if you needed to.
    Cheers and good luck with all your adventures!

    @shanearnold2372 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow, yea yall did a really great job with that truck, perfect design, and use of space, that table is extra special.... I only have one suggestion, and that is to take out the sliding pantry behind the couches so that you could put a 17 degree lean to the back rest.... its just way more comfortable than sitting straight up, and is really the norm for furniture overall.

    What shade of stain did you use on the table? It kind of looks like Jacobean or maybe a dark walnit? It's absolutely gorgeous. You turned a basic looking piece of wood and made it look like something old world from an antique store or boutique.

    • @project_today
      @project_today  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The gas is extremely expensive. Definitely the most expensive part of this whole lifestyle for us. I think we made our conversion quite heavy and then the truck didn't have great gas mileage to begin with.
