Very interesting video Phil! Some great food for thought here. I really enjoyed this.
And I fully agree with you: your actions define your character. Some professional detailers think they’re “professional” just because that’s their main income source, or their daily job. But being a professional detailer is much more than that. It’s how you take pride in your work and giving your customers a great service and value for their money. It’s how you treat people with respect. It’s how you interact with the people in the detailing community. It’s about being a positive influence on the community and actually wanting the detailing industry to rise the right way.
Being a professional detailer is acting professional in all situations, at all times. If I see a “professional” detailer acting negatively on social media, or bullying and belittling others, that’s usually a good indicator that their business isn’t doing well or their channel has become irrelevant, as successful people don’t have time to be negative and controversial just for clicks and views. People are smart and see through that.
If I was a consumer looking for a professional detailer to bring my car to, and saw they act that way on social media, I would NEVER give them my business. If they are disrespectful towards others, there’s a high chance they will be disrespectful towards me as a customer or do a poor job detailing my car.
Those toxic detailers might have a small cult following of minions that praise them for “saying the truth” as somehow bashing and bullying is sometimes perceived as an appropriate way of acting for a minority of individuals. But 99% of people are not ok with toxic individuals.
Anybody who acts in a toxic way should take a step back and do some introspection about their life. There’s something wrong if you feel you have to be mean towards others.
That being said, thankfully the vast majority of content creators that I know are a positive influence on the detailing community and work hard at their craft and work hard to produce quality videos that are both educational and entertaining! 🙌🏻👍🏻

I had a side detail business in the mid-1990's while serving active duty in the USAF. A customer asked me to do a basic wash & wax and an interior clean and dressing. The vehicle was a white F150 with tan interior. The owners grandson spilled chocolate milk on the carpet a year prior, and he asked me to remove the stain. He did not want the carpet pulled, so I was limited in removing the stain. We agreed on the service and the understanding that I may not be able to completely remove the stain. I put more effort into the stain than I should have.
The finished product was immaculate. Several people agreed it was a beautiful transformation.
The customer was furious when I explained the stain wasn't completely removed. In fact, he could care less about the rest of the vehicle, only the stain. The stain was visible, but not by much. He went off on me for a few minutes and I stopped him mid-rant. I handed him the keys and congratulated him on a clean vehicle and free detail service. I asked him to never contact me again.
That was the last time I detailed a vehicle for anyone other than me or my wife.
    Thanks for the great videos!

Wow that’s a crazy story! Sorry that happened. It’s rare that we get people like that but when we do it’s so defeating. When that happens to us we black list them and also inform our local detailing friends about the person. They will never get another quality detail from us or any other reputable Detailer in my area.

Phil, I was one of those who took a big hit to the bullying last year. It took me out for a couple months to be honest and made me rethink even being a Detailer. And over what? A magic eraser. It escalated to scary proportions. I'm 52 yrs old so coming into this business in 2022 is a challenge anyway for my age but it's doable. And being a woman made me an easy target for the bullies too. I had to basically become quiet everywhere except a once a week video on my channel. Thank you for discussing the tough issue.

Don't let these online douche bags bring you down to that level. Challenging or tough questions is one thing, but bullying in order to bring you down in not acceptable. After looking at your you tube page, reading about your life, your struggles and what you have overcome with your daughter... you are one strong woman!! If you are around the richmond, va area... you can detail our vehicles anytime!! Also, if you need any help purchasing equipment to get your business up and running... I would like to help you. Great video! One of the reasons why I follow your content your positive and professional attitude. I have found that people who feel the need to put others down are simple insecure and this is the way they make themselves feel better about who they are and what they are doing. True professionals don’t hesitate to share what they know as they have that confidence and likely success in their own business because of that. There’s enough “work” to go around and helping others bring their business up only stands to help the industry as a whole. Keep up the great work - detailing and otherwise!

This is my 6th year in business and I appreciate guys like you, Luke Wilson, Brian at Apex, Ammo NYC, DPC, Jim White, Ivan and others for everything you all do on your channels.
It's helped tremendously having you all as a resource on TH-cam in all aspects.
I've not been exposed to any of the negativity so far but Im from the old school so I tend to just do my job and not pay attention to that stuff. My customers are happy and that's what matters the most. And my business continues to grow. I know negativity from others is tough but you've got a business to concentrate on and, if you're letting others determine how you feel, it makes you less effective. If you want to get under their skin and make them go away you just keep building and become more successful. That's going to shut them up.

Phil. You had this topic highlighted and in a country which is not my own and getting racially abused , to be taunted by other “home grown “ detailers and weekend warriors. It’s enough and I have done this long enough to try and grow a thick skin. But there is always one that keeps me there , a customer that thanks me for going above and beyond, for the customer that I give a good rate to since she is a teacher and low earner, to the grandad that does not speak English but smiles and gives me a thumbs up. These are the rays of sunshine and hope. To the rest I say take a running jump off a short pier.

If someone doesn’t speak up, the new guys will have no support. I still to this day get questions and comments from new detailers who just trying to learn and they have expressed to me the frustration they have on forums and the ridiculous answers they get from some “TH-cam detailers”.

I too have been bullied, from the beginners to the professionals, and one "popular professional" who happens to own a well known coating brand only because I refused to join his band wagon. He took things too far by mentioning my mom in a conversation that had absolutely nothing to do with her.
I was told by other detailers whom he too has bullied that he loves disrespecting others for his own ego alteration.
I have left many if not all detailing groups on Facebook because of the nasty things that are said, it is truly a toxic environment which I no wanted to be apart of.
Even on a local level, detailers bad talk me only because of how fast I grew and how solid my reputation has become in both the marine and automotive detailing industry.

    • @MirandaDetailing

So sorry to hear that. You can contact Google and tell them that it was not a customer by whatever name they used. I had that happen and Google investigated and took it down.
Or you could graciously answer the review and see close them as a local Detailer trying to discredit you. Just don’t retaliate in kind and be very professional. That way when people read the reply they will clearly see that the review is fake.

Well said Phil, a few bullies in the forums, I left what is probably the best known forum for those reasons, prima donnas belittling others for getting something wrong, or being misinformed from another source, or for simply doing what works for them, in their own situations. As you know Alan well, he is also an advocate of not belittling people, "say nothing if you can't say something positive", he is also like yourself, do what the customer wants, what they expect, what they paid for and what was agreed, and not what the weekend warriors think you should be doing.

Sadly, it's like this is all spaces. Detailing is my hobby but one of my sources of income is repairing electronics at a component level. Just recently a prominent person in the space started to target me by mocking me to their base using photos of me from my personal social media accounts. Some people try to elevate themselves by bringing others down. Those are small people.

Anytime a detailer mocks another detailer, professional or not, is a clear indication of insecurity in my humble opinion. I have unfollowed a group of detailers whose head recently became "big". They think they are an authority just because one of them got their name on a "sauce". Another one of their members even called out Pan for "defending" a brand after they did a colab. Not realizing that he was merely helping the brand with feedbacks. Makes me think that they are after clout rather than helping others
In todays world, If detailers themselves do not help the manufacturers (and vice versa), the detailing scene would be completely different. The advancement and tech would not be as avant-garde. Remember in the day without YT or detailing forums, it was all about trial and error. It became a battle of ingenuity of an individual on his choice of products. Today, we get information with a few touches on a phone for crying out loud.
Sorry for the rant here but your topic just hit a spot. Just focus on helping others be better is my take in life. Hence our tag line "Happy ending included"

I know all about bullying in real life. I was born with a birth defect that nobody in school understood. Need I say that I was pushed around and made fun of all through school? Anyways, the good thing about the internet is it's run through a computer and that computer is run on electricity. And the computer also has a on/off key that I have used frequently when there was negativity. I would also do the blocking, etc but people always found ways around that. On another topic though is a question about products to use. I see detailers using and recommending products but then they say use a product that I want to use and that confuses me because I want to use only good, safe yet inexpensive products on my 2023 Mazda CX-5. Recently I viewed quite a few videos about SudsLab products but do I really need the whole line? Or should I choose a few that do multiple things ie the interior cleaner(s)? My head is swimming from all of the products out there.

Hello Do you guys ever do any mold or mildew removal? I had someone reach out and say their interior got wet and now has a smell sometimes they tell you there’s mold sometimes they don’t and try to hide it I don’t want to take these jobs on because of my health and it will also make me have to throw away tools/products after, any advice or how can I politely say no or avoid these cars in the future ? Same with rodent activity? Do I need to inspect the car before they drop it off because they aren’t always honest about condition ? Have you ever refused these cars and how to politely tell them? Said they tried to get smell out last summer and still there now omg idk , Thank you 🙏🏻

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Yes, sometimes we do but we reject those jobs. Basically you have to ask the customer if there’s any mold or mildew in the vehicle those lines of questions should be in your initial conversation with them such as is their dog hair, heavy, stains, mold, and so on. I also cover that in my acknowledgment form. But if the vehicle comes in and you didn’t see it before hand, and the customer didn’t tell you and there’s mold and mildew, I usually reject the job if it’s really bad if it’s just a little bit of mold and mildew, then I’ll tell them that I can take care of it, but the smell from mold and mildew I can’t get rid of it completely.

The actual people who cause these issues will most likely never watch this. But that’s ok, they won’t change anyway. For new and upcoming detailers, who deal with this, they need to know that true professional detailers have their support and backing.
