    Hi Phil, I have the same guage. I love that you can create reports with photos and email it.
    But an unexpected use for me was searching for cars for my kids. Quickly identifies another coat of paint which points to a possible accident. Shows up body filler.
    Well worth it if you’re going to buy a vehicle, never mind the top coat benefits.

    That exact tool saved me yesterday on a Mercedes S class. It had a light scratch on one of the doors. When i measured the paint there it became apparent that somebody had already shaved off lots of clear in an attempt to remove the scratch. I was left with 74 microns (rest of car 110-150 microns) to play with so i gave it a quick few passes with 3D ONE and a medium pad which made it a little less noticeable and i explained to the customer that it was too dangerous to go any further. Without the tool i would have gone for the heavy cut and wool pad and likely burned through the clear or left so little clear that it would have failed in the near future.

    I have a paint depth gauge but on my two boys cars I have no history on how thick the paint was new, the truck turned out amazing, nicely done Phil 👍😁

    Excellent video with great tips. The truck turned out amazing as you two always do excellent work. I have foamed CarPro Descale before and the results were not very good but I have had excellent results using Descale for the agitation wash. Keeping a microfiber in the wash bucket for agitating DIY water spot remover gives me great results. The paint depth gauge is a very important tool for me. I see a lot of customers buying eight to ten year old used cars and wanting a ceramic coating. It is common to see paint depth readings range from 2.3 to 5.8 in the same vehicle. Immortal has been popular for me too and the vehicles look amazing afterwards. Thank you for the video.

    Wow Suprised with the results by papa cut! Looks really good! The papa cut is almost an all in one compound that gets rid of some good effects in the paint! Great job Phil!

    Hi folks. The truck looks fantastic. The truck is very large.
    Phil, what did you do with the tonneau cover? Couldn't tell what kind of material it was. Tonneau covers are getting more popular up here. I even have one myself.
    Do you have to spray water on the paint to clean up the spot remover or just mop up?
    Thank you for the video. Hi wife.

    What do you recommend the minimum thickness be for a clear coat? anything under 4? What would a freshly painted panel be 6+? I could use that gauge to also look for resprayed body panels on vehicles i buy. Im just trying to learn so if you could please shine some light on what you believe is the safest range that would be great!! Im looking for 98-02 Trans am's similar to mine in my picture and with these cars being older no telling what kind of bullshit they've been put through with previous owners.

    • @EvansWS6
      @EvansWS6 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      OH! and whats a good rule of thumb for using compounds / polishes? Which one cuts more "mills" ?.

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi. So it all depends on how it was painted. From factory older cars like that usually had 5-6 mils total. That’s counting primer, paint, and clear coat. Newer vehicles now have roughly 4+ mils total. I wouldn’t cut to heavy if under 4 mils. You can still do a polish becasue that doesn’t cut so much.
      Compounds are considered more for heavy cutting while polishes are medium to light, so always start with a polish and medium foam pad and see how the paint reacts. Then decide if you need more cutting. If it’s been repainted readings should be higher, but still that depends how the painter painted it.

    Really beautiful truck ….great job on it as usual ….i have a question….i own a 2001 beetle with only 40,000 miles on it ….i hand wax it every three months or so with meguires cleaner wax and Lucas slick mist ceramic detailer in between ….if i coat car with Adams iron remover and powerwash off will it take off all my wax and ceramic sealing and shine ????

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi. Thanks.
      Iron removers are usually ph neutral and don’t have enough power to remove waxes or sealants. It’s only if they are wheel cleaners with iron remover that they are formulated with extra cleaner power. But why would one need to use iron remover on a waxed or sealed car? That’s should only be reserved for initial cleaning, not for maintenance washing. I would only use iron remover if and when the paint needs it. And if the paint needs it, it also should be clay barred/toweled/mitted, and then re waxed or sealed.

    Phil, I have a question: for lite dust on the car, can you use a Swiffer duster?
    Thanks, Phil

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Hi. No I would never use any of those dusters. its better to let the dust sit until you can wash it properly. Or you could use a quick detailer or waterless wash and a plush microfiber towel to gently wipe it down.

    What speed do you run the spta on? I have one but when doing curves it seems to stall some but may be my technique not the machine.

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Usually speed 5-6, For curves, it definitely comes down to technique. it takes some time and experience to figure out how to finesse the polisher over curves and other difficult areas. but take your time and learn to balance the polisher to even it out. also just because it stalls a little it doesn't mean its not doing its job. a little stalling is ok.
