    I have owned a R1T now for 3 weeks. Pretty spot on review to be honest. Ive had similar issues with the lock features, I find it more of an issue when I walk up and want it to unlock and there’s a lag response. Truck is amazing the way it drives, would buy it if it were a gas version. I get in other friends trucks and they feel like an old goat tractor in comparison.

    • @HaulYT
      @HaulYT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you David, and I have also seen that lag sometimes. Thanks for the comment and congrats on you grabbing one yourself. What color setup do you have?

      They have a gas version, it's called a Ford Maverick and its 1/3rd of the price.

    • @davidcampbell9750
      @davidcampbell9750 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@MatthewEGolden Technically its half the price when you configure it anything close to a R1T. If budget is your concern, then go for it. You get what you pay for, in the Mavericks case, its a fraction of a ride, with a slug of a engine, ride quality thats poor. Build quality thats questionable (my sisters just lemon laced a new bronco), and a car that I would be bored with in 5 seconds. Would make a decent rental truck in Mexico.

    Very honest review. I have owned my R1T since May, and have almost 13000 miles on it! Traveled to remote parts of Canada in Ontario and New Brunswick for some camping, kayaking and biking adventures. Yes charging was a challenge, but not impossible. Canada like the USA are making great strides in their infrastructure and it will only get better as time goes by. The only dislike I have really is the iPhone charging. It’s spotty at best, but like you, I keep my phone charged. I have changed phone cases and that has helped. The other dislike issues you are experiencing can be fixed with OTA updates.
    A complaint I had involved my hitch mounted bike rack which triggered backup warnings. I reported that to Rivian service and a few months later, an OTA update added an option to put the vehicle in rear hitch accessory mode which silenced the warning. I feel like Rivian not only listens to its customers, but also encourages us to report even the slightest problem to them so they can improve their product.
    I love the vehicle and consider it to be the best purchase I have ever made.
    I wish all companies shared the same caring culture that Rivian practices.

    Getting very close to trading in my 19 Raptor 802a in Velocity Blue for a R1T. Like your take on heat build up with the panoramic sun roof. Is there a liner to keep the interior cool? Does the room open? Charging stations are my absolute biggest concerns though and after all the terrible reviews of EA charging stations I admit it is the number one reason that I don't put down 1k. Any thoughts? Also and I must ask based on some other videos I have seen. Are you in any way shape or form related or friends with any Rivian higher ups?

    • @HaulYT
      @HaulYT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      James first off I have always loved the Raptors and always wanted one. I haven't seen a liner for the panoramic roof yet but I don't feel the heat comes from there. I feel most of the heat is coming for m the windshield which I can fix with a sunshade. I have an entire video around charging if you are interested. The charging is only gonna get better, but it really comes down to your daily commutes and if that is within the full charge range. I charge almost solely at home but my commute allows it.

    We are more than double the miles and not quite double the enthusiasm! There is a way to disconnect the auto unlocking and OTA update could make it even easier to modify it in the future. I like the idea of screen lock toggle or something of that nature. I've got cases for our phones so the charging pad is not really useful/used but it could come in handy if I forget my charge cords. We agree about your 5 likes, also the HVAC adjustments are sketchy especially when driving which is something you will almost always be doing as temperature changes through the day and you're behind the wheel with the sun coming down at different angles. It was 113 degrees yesterday day so this is particularly poignant. Safe travels.

    Nice video. Fair assessments on most of it.....
    #1, agree with the vents. I haven't had any issue adjusting fan speed.
    #2. Don't use wireless charging, so can't comment.
    #3. Agree about the screen off/lock feature being needed. However, have found that with a microfiber towel that's thick enough, (folded over), can wipe down the screen without pushing any buttons as long as I keep my fingers on the towel.
    #4. Phone keys are always going to be an issue for the reasons you stated among many more. Give me a good old-fashioned key fob. Also, using the app to unlock the truck manually is done via internet / wireless cell coverage, thus has nothing to do with bluetooth. You can unlock your truck from across the country using the app.
    On the flip side, I can't get my truck to unlock the doors with the phone key until I've been standing at the door for about 10 seconds first. Again, old-fashioned key fob. Hoping they make it passive soon.
    5. Tesla is in a class of one in terms of its own charging network. Although, give credit to Rivian for being willing to attempt to create their own network. More than you can say for any other manufacturers. So, actually giving Rivian additional credit. Otherwise, any EV aside from Tesla is in the same boat currently.
    --------------------------
    1. Accelerates like a sports car, but disagree it "handles" like a sports car. Air Suspension is amazing. Ride quality is amazing. But, it's not a sports car.
    2. Personal choice that will vary depending on each owner's particular preferences.
    3. Tonneau, I agree, one of the reasons I loved this truck is the auto-tonneau. Hopefully, they'll find a fix to make them more reliable. Unfortunately, as great as it is, it's also the weak spot of this truck. Way too many have had them break.
    4. Applies to any EV. Congrats on making the switch. You'll never want to go back. Me, having come from 9 years in Tesla's, I've known for years I can never drive gas cars again.
    5. Customer Service. Felt the same way about Tesla the first year or two. Then they grew. Enjoy it while you can. It will change over time.

      @HaulYT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Vinny m thank you so much for the comment. I have been following Rivian since 2018 and watched and invested in what they are all about from a company perspective. When looking at just the truck, I love the camping approach, the look of the truck, the features that they focused on. I love Ford and especially the F-150, I had one in the past, but the style of the lightning isn't for me. It looks like every other truck and that isn't what I was looking for. I hope this helps.

      @@vinnym5095 I haven't had issues with the bed size but I don't get into to many fancy things I need to put in there. It is similar to the gladiator bed size so no real issue. The interior is definitely bigger than the gladiator from a width and length. It is similar to an F-150 in my eyes but I haven't spec'd them against each other. Great review. Thanks for sharing. We don't have our R1S yet, but the thing I think I'm going to dislike most about it is the absence of Apple Car Play, which we have relied on for years in our cars. • @HaulYT

      I have not. I thought the Alexa was only for doing things for the truck outside of it like setting a cabin temp or opening the tailgate. I am a huge Rivian fan and have been following their progress since I watched The long way up in 2020. I almost put a deposit down then but held off as I had a pretty new truck at the time. I just put my deposit down last month and am of course cursing myself because of the HUGE price increase. To build a model similar to the launch edition it is around $95K, so I am looking at a dual motor version to save money. But now it is looking like the new Federal tax credit will no longer be valid for Rivians priced over $80K. So my question is, would you still buy the same spec'd truck all over again at the current price, or would you build a lower spec version? And would you still do it without the federal tax rebate of $7,500? (I talked to a guy charging his R1t at a super charger and he said after federal and Colorado state rebates it cost him about $65K all in - so that is an almost $30K swing for future buyers who want the same featured truck. Ouch!) Anyway, I got to test drive a Rivian at their location in Denver and totally fell in love. I managed to rationalize the cost by doing the dual motor (do I really need to 0-60 in 3 seconds) and cutting a couple other things to get it down to about $83K, but if the federal rebate goes away I don't know I can swallow that in addition to the recent price increase...it is just too expensive for me. If they were actually available (from Rivian, not inflated reseller ones) I would buy one today in a heartbeat to get in on the current rebates, but as it is I will probably look at the Ford Lightening (but probably won't be able to get one until 2025). Late to the game I guess. Anyway I am interested in your thoughts. Also - great channel, I just subscribed.

      David, I'm sorry to hear about your story but unfortunately it is one that many are experiencing. Like you I have been following Rivian for a long time around 2019. I put the deposit down early b/c I was bought into their message and loved what I was seeing for $1k that I knew I could get back. When the price increases came in March I held my pre-order and was not planning on canceling at the time. I guess in that respect I would pay the additional cost for the truck. From what I understand the tax rebate comes as a tax credit not direct check back so I know it is going to help me in the long run. I'm quite a planner by nature so I'm ok looking into the long term gains. My situation worked out well b/c I bought my Jeep Gladiator knowing I would be selling it to fund my Rivian and Jeep keep their value really well. I wasn't expecting the used market spike like it did so everything worked out Millhouse when I sold my Jeep for the best price I would have ever got. To answer your direct question, I would not ever buy anything that would keep me up at night from a financial standpoint, prices will come down in the future and sometimes the waiting game is better for both parties. Thank you for subscribing and I look forward to future interaction with you.

The charging simply isn’t as good as Tesla. Or Tesla gets 41 mph on our home charger and Rivian is capped at 25 mph. That’s a big difference. The range reduction is due to your tires. I've really been thinking about replacing my wifes Expedition with an R1S in a few years but it just doesn't seem like the economics are working out. Given the price difference between the two, current gas prices, and current electrical prices, the R1S is still more expensive monthly than a new expedition even if I were to average 25,000 miles a year. Once the financing term ends however the R1s does become more affordable to operate but the difference is not that much, not unless gasoline sharply increases in price. And given that I am not really a huge fan of the ergonomics of the Rivian since it has no buttons and used that screen for nearly everything it seems like a hard sell for me. The power is the main reason I am attracted to it but my numbers are with the dual motor version. Quad motor makes the economics even worse.

    The wireless phone charger is probably just charging at a high rate causing the heat. That excess heat is harmful to lithium batteries...

      I hear ya. I don't have the need to tow long distances and wouldn't recommend an EV if that is something you need. They aren't there yet but as the tech improves we could be close in the near future. It is like any other investment, if you don't do your research and make sure it fits what YOU need then it could be disappointing.

      @@HaulYT I pick up on the 24th but like you, I waited and researched during the 2 year wait. Great video and on point about most things on there. I had just been reading the owners guide on Alexa and all of the thing it could do before I watched your video. Pretty much any control from the center console can be completed by Alexa. I really believe it’s just a change in habit for all of us just to use it. Previous versions of voice recognition were terrible Sync etc. I believe that may be why we all haven’t created the habit yet I am going to try to force myself to use it to see if it actually makes life easier or frustrates the crap outa me.
