- Journey from Batam Island to Jakarta, Indonesia across Sumatra
My arrival in Indonesia ➡️ • My 1st Time In Indones...
A few weeks ago I started my journey in Bangkok and the goal was it to reach Jakarta, Indonesia without taking a single flight. Now I have made it to Batam Island already, which is just in front of Singapore. The journey from here on gets interesting! There are daily flights from Batam to Jakarta and they are actually also very inexpensive, but I want to complete this journey without a flight. So, join me on the journey across Sumatra island towards Jakarta. A journey that turned out to be quite long and quite memorable! Let's make it to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia!

Precisely. Human interaction is the best.

There are a lot of events of 'Tarian Tradisional' or traditional dance of our City, Surabaya, the city of Heroes.
If you don't mind please visit our Kampung in the suburbs then you are and all of the foreigners know about Surabaya not only the centre of Surabaya.
Above all, thanks a bunch for take a video about our beloved City Surabaya.
🇮🇩😊🙏
It's called ayam goreng serundeng, Ken. Fried chicken with dry coconut powder and spices ( garlic, galangal, bay leaf, palm sugar etc). So nice.
Ken i don't know where you are at this moment but if you need help in Jakarta my wife is living there. I am Dutch. And please be careful in Jakarta. on crowded places wear your backpack on your chest. also use wallet with rfid blocking and keep your mobile on a safe place if you use public transportation.
Nice to meet you Ken, nice to be able to give you a ride. May God always protect you... see you next time.
Thank you so much for your hospitality 🙏 will remember it
Bangga sama bang andrei dan kawan-kawan. Kalian orang baik. Disaat masih banyak orang Indonesia yang suka manfaatin bule. Tapi kalian menunjukkan masih ada orang baik di Indonesia. Sukses selalu buat bang andrei dan kawan-kawan

It's fun to see you being treated like an international star on the ferry!
In the past, my only knowledge of Sumatra and Java is coffee. I am very happy to participate in this journey.
Thank you very much for sharing, super great job! 👍🥰🙏
Oh my gosh how kind of those guys to give you a lift and not accepting anything from you for payment. They have many good blessings coming to them for their kindness 🙏
I chuckled at the selfie counter 😂
What a great video Ken I really enjoyed it and everyone was so friendly 😊
Happy to hear you enjoyed watching 🙏
FYI Palembang is one of the oldest cities in Indonesia, In the past there was a very famous kingdom, namely the Sriwijaya kingdom, whose power reached Malaysia and Singapore
Prince Sriwijaya, named Sang Nila Utama, was the first person to discover Singapore and create the kingdom of Singapore. There is a statue of Sang Nila Utama with Sir Stamford Raffles in the next Singapore river
Thank you so much Ari, Andrie and Napid for treating our Ken so nicely. Indonesian people quite nice.
Love from Malaysia,
Hannah.
@@blikaosid8924very unfulfilling life you're living, huh? Nobody probably never loved you and thats why you chose to hate people now, to fulfill your desire for satisfaction in life because you never really achieved anything in it, huh?

Wonderful guys, so helpful to Ken, may God blessed them with wealth and health. Good job guys.
@@blikaosid8924 police in all country is corrupted by the way 😂 it's too bad and unlucky for them. i believe if they behave rightly and follow malaysian rules and norms, everything's gonna be okay and fine.
My own experience of Indonesia is that the longer away from tourists destinations you are, the friendlier the people will be.
Welcome to Indonesia, Indonesian is the main language so there are rarely Indonesian people in remote areas who can speak English, unfortunately the language barrier is a bit of an obstacle in communicating with friendly Indonesian people...but it doesn't hinder friendship. .. keep going, enjoy and stay healthy
i think every foreigners who intended to visits least touristy area should learn basic bahasa indonesia tbh. sigh...
What a great journey! I so far only made it from Bangkok to Singapore. But yes only met nice people on my way, so would say people are amazing in South East Asia
Loved this travel blog. Ken is so friendly and gave nice smiles to everyone he met. And applause to the Indonesians who are so kind, friendly and helpful. Hope Ken will meet more of them throughout his travel.
I'm so proud to see the hospitality of Indonesian peoples, may god blessed your country and people.

Malaysia and Indonesia is pretty similar country, you can apply your knowledge from Malaysian experience to Indonesia.
yeah so far most of the words I learned in Malaysia, I can also use here and everyone understand
Singapore is better than both of malay and indo
Just switch the word of 🇲🇾 Boleh = 🇮🇩 Bisa

Wunderbar, welche Offenheit u. Freundlichkeit Dir auf dieser Reise fern der Heimat begegnet! Es erinnert einen daran, dass nicht alle Menschen auf der Erde so sind wie hier in Deutschland…!Take care & best wishes From Cologne🤘😎🎸
What a journey Ken..I also learn new lessons from this video. Interesting experience!
Perjalanan yg sangat luar biasa... Aku fans kamu ken❤ cinta dari jakarta Indonesia❤❤❤
Indonesia is really amazing!
Hey ken, be prepared to be bombarded with selfies in Indonesia!!You have no idea being a White travelling there is not easy as you'll be asked for tons of selfies. Only in Indonesia for sure. Only thing you do is be patience or else you can't cope with the heavy load of selfie requests!! Pleasse don't go to where all the youtubers goes in Java, it's all covered already. There are many places ,off the beaten paths and cities where very few foreigners covers. Basically more in Central Java . There might be some language barriers for sure but you'll get away with it somehow. From Java, better not head out to Bali and to the east as it's way too boring. Go north to Sulawesi and Papua. Beautiful islands indeed. Your follower from Hong Kong.
Oh gosh, just 3 words to describe this sea and land journey to JAKARTA.....EPIC, AWESOME and super INTERESTING. This is the most unique travel adventure of all your travels. Great job, Ken. I just can't wait to see your next Jakarta adventure 😃🫰

Actually the video is gonna be more rock if you can make the segmentation per video in every stop and the experience in every city you were stay. I believe the viewer be more looking forward for each city you were stop since I have never find this kind of trip from Bangkok - Jakarta non-plane trip. Anyway still like the video!

Grabbing a snack🍿, and welcome to Indonesia!!
Terima Kasih 🙏
@@KenAbroadare you attending Steve and Ivana wedding in Janda Baik???
Honestly there's s direct Bus from Jambi/ Palembang to Jakarta. Even in Palembang there's sleeper Bus to Jakarta/Bandung. I suggest you if you need information ask Receptionist or staff of your Hotel. They will give you the best suggestion to travel to your next destination
Yes, a little bit late to the party , been pretty busy lately with work ..... To be honest. i knew this journey was going to be straightforward... but there's where your experience comes into the picture... Still quite an experience not everyone gets the chance to try out....yup, pretty much to get swarm around by the locals for selfies...Congratulation that you have finally made it all the way from Bangkok to Jakarta without flying..... You're the man!!.... Cheers mate!
It was a big and fun journey 💪
I love ❤this video, big shoutout to shout out to Andrew and Nabid.
there is easier route, is by taking high speed ferry from Batam to Kuala Tungkal or Dumai then continue by bus to Jakarta. But, you took very long roll-on ferry which is super slow because they carries heavy vehicle at the deck.
Thats why the ferry was so empty with passengers, most of the passengers were inter-island truck drivers😅. I rode high speed ferry in Riau Islands once, it was cramped with human😂😂.
Next time if you see ASDP logo in it, unless you bring a vehicle,,please just avoid it. Riau Islands are actually full of high speed ferries to many destinations. Just avoid ASDP ones if you travel individually.😅
If only Pelni service was not out of service due to the ship being repaired, it would have been simple straightforward 36-48 hours ferry trip to Jakarta,
ASDP one is okay, if you just do a short island-hop trip i.e. Sumatra to Java, or Java to Bali…. but yeah, if you really want the experience , i guess thats okay too.😅
Fantastic
You are brave for trying out this road to Jakarta. Nice video! I enjoy long videos like this, for me it could be even 1hr+. Have a great stay 🤩
Thanks for watching 🙏😊

Welcome to Indonesia..,
There are several customs in Indonesia that may be foreign to you, such as using your right hand to shake hands with other people and touching your chest (heart) when you finish shaking hands.
Have a nice trip 🎉🎉

Ken , this is a very interesting journey but always stay safe, Thanks for sharing
That’s one hell of a journey. Keep it up Ken. Be looking forward to seeing more videos
I went through an overland bus trip from Medan in North Sumatra to Jakarta back in the early 2000s. Interesting, challenging and, at times, tortuous. I also did trips across the Eastern islands. Good to see you doing this and yet maintain your easy-going demeanour, Ken. 😅
Different experience altogether, awaiting to see Jakarta 👍
You are a real adventurous love the vlogs

Brilliant video! Ive lived in Indonesia many years but have seen little of it. Love following along on your journey. Its just great the way you travel really meeting the local people, trying all the food. I get so bored with all the influencer stuff. This is a breath of fresh air.
