    Don't think anyone's mentioned it yet, but for when the rocket is built and you want to use it. May I suggest a "pre-flight" check list? "Do I have food and water? Do my engines work. Are the batteries charged. Are guns loaded. Is there canvas in the parachutes. is there enough o2 for the trip." Just some suggestions.

    For the atmospheric booster beacons, you could have a few timer blocks to pulse the beacon like the pirate distress signals to keep them from using up too much power.

    That stage escalated quickly. It went from [This is only for desperation piloting, it's just a 'point and shoot' escape], to a gorgeous armed runabout capable destroying a small outpost in only 30 minutes. Nice. I can't wait for stage two. =)

    That little craft looks pretty good, especially from the back for some reason.
    OK, this might not be a very practical idea but hear me out. That craft is the head module for Ultra Splitsietron! The main hydrogen stage is the torso and legs. The atmospheric stage is the jet pack. If you want to really over-design it, the arms could be detachable fighter craft/drones.

    Glad you've decided to put my idea into life. However I'd strongly suggest that you keep some emergency o2 in office regardless. In case of damage to conveyors or power shortage you will be cut off from your storage (both can happen during attack, crash or construction works). Also remember to put bottles in seats of your vehicles and "emergency everything" in obscunder. Given that you can run out of everything all at once, even with updated warning mod, probably every block with inventory should have vital survival supplies. Im serious - survival paranoia.
    How about some LCD on the side of your new ship with your fancy astronaut-helmet logo or name of your space programme? (Split-X? Splice-X?) Or another "registration plate" on the back, once you come up with a name? ("Icarus" maybe? Gonna go high, and with little wings not gonna fly well on way back. Also your first attempt on crewed flight, so i think name is fitting. Or, just stick with Zero - both stage and minimalistic utility would fit that simple name, and you could still pretend it's after WW2 fighterplane - that white-red tips are kind of right color for that already)
    And i support Demortis1 idea of LCD preflight checklist - just try and see if you can put such reminder on one of in-cockpit LCDs too - you would surely not miss that one :)
    Since you are starting your own space programme now, you REALLY NEED a flagpole! (I guess large LCD on an elevated rotor) Otherwise you risk Kraken bring bad luck on your journey.
    I'm not quite happy about that vibrant color you chose. I'd really tone it down, and save Hi-Vis tones for important things you want to stand out, not flush relatively large chunks of interior with it. Maybe it's as you say, because of lack of other things to blend with. But it stands out far to much to my tastes. But tastes are tastes - everybody have different anyways.
    Also as an idea, you could use frost material on some conveyors to imitate coolant flowing.
    Hopefully i'm not bothering you too much with another inflated list of ideas.
    Cheers.

    • @Splitsie
      @Splitsie  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You make a good point about damage/power shortages, if nothing else I should be putting food and water in that container instead of into the cargo system :)
      I'll think about the colour stuff, but after my experience in Survival Maybe, I found that the bright colours tend to become more acceptable with time so maybe that'll happen here too :P

    And yet again you taught me something. 25:40 I had just assumed that the locking area of the merge block was not a mount point for anything other than another merge block so I never tried it. Just my opinion but I do think that interior walls, ones not exposed to the elements such as wind and sun should be fine being depicted as not rusted. On another topic; I now have the Frostbite skin. I was wondering if you can combine the worn/rusted paint skin and the frosted skin on one block. I tried in the Frostbite scenario briefly when adding a medium cargo and extra axle to the drop rover but then haven't tried again. The sensor control for the air vent is a great idea. It caught my attention in the Frostbite scenario for controlling turning the large med kit on/off at the hanger where you get the armored rover.
    PS: I hadn't noticed if you put an ore detector on the ship; just saying.

    Crew module looks cool though man!
    The thing about drones not spawning in asteroids and stuff is true and super annoying. The last personal run I started I had decided I wanted to force myself in to using nothing but drone vehicles to make it more challenging. Sadly, after building a drone capable of leaving the planet I spent about an hour trying to find asteroids with no luck. Spectated and transported up to the drone to test if it was because of remote and the second I TP'd half a dozen asteroids appeared... I hope they change that at some point.

    You could go a step further by adding timing blocks to the air system. Only turn the vent on for so long when you enter. You don't use much while inside, you don't lose much by going outside, so you can replenish it each time you enter for (i.e.) 10 seconds.

    For the air vent system, you can add action to the air vent to turn it self off when the room is 100% pressurized. You can add a timer to turn on the air vent every 10 minutes, and your sensor can be used to turn the timer on and off. In this way, when you are inside your air vent will only be on for a few seconds every 10 minutes instead of constantly using power, and when you are outside it will still be always off.

    • @Splitsie
      @Splitsie  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's an interesting solution, it could be used in concert with the sensor setups as well. The other thing I need to hook up to the sensors are the lights, so that the internal lights are only on while I'm in the room, I'm interested to see if such a thing would show up on any time lapse as I move about the base too - if so it'd possibly look quite cool :)

Rabenschild on his streams 2+3 weeks ago they did a multistage rocket launch and used PAM for the booster's return to the launch pad to avoid the hassle of dragging it back to base. The older stream covered the setup of PAM and the recent one showed launch and return of booster. Just an idea to save effort and resources for you. Keep up the great work!

      Sadly the wings are too short for decoys to do much of anything, given the inaccuracy of weapons in SE the spread of damage would be wide enough that they'd be unlikely to protect anything, however I am planning on having some in the main stage to draw fire away from the command module entirely :)

    I like having staged rockets where I have two hydrogen tanks with thrusters on them, with a merge block on top and then a smaller ship that can return to base with parachutes. and leave the hydrogen tanks in space for later use so I will have a stash of hydrogen that didn't get used from all my small space missions.

  • @martinrwolfe

    You don't need a sensor to control the air vents. I think that they still detect the O2 level when turned off. So just have a script running to turn them on when O2 drops below 75% and off when above 95%. As you already have a PB in the office you could load the script on that, Even sensors used power and as the PB is already there no extra power use. Rather than pure greeble winglets I would have gone for a pair of solar panels.

    This might be a option for deploying the 'Decoy Beacon/missile device' it might be really useful to send enemies away from you chasing something disposable... and they might not need their own thrust if they were dropped in advance and set with a timer to pulse their beacon or you could turn them on before turning your antenna off. (Not sure that works with the AI-detection, but it's an idea)

    nice Idea with the Vent triggered by Sensor... but... the vent only use Power, if it Pressurize... so if you don't be in the room, the vent doesn't need Power (you can see this with the mod Build Info?). Only just use power for short time, till atmosphere is at 100%. King Regards from Stuttgart, Germany.

    Ugh, I saw four places where you could have added four more thrusters for downward thrust; two under the gatling guns, and two after placing two more junctions and/or elbows off the rear junctions for the rear trust. Thus giving 5 downward thrusters, that should be enough to hover it around the base and get it closer upon re'entry before deploying the chutes.
    Also I didn't say this last time, but that "crane" if you can even call it that, is worse then the most clang inducing device I'v yet seen; all because it's center of gravity and counter weight are not enough to pickup a quarter of a drone without tipping sideways without a landing gear. Please put mass blocks around the base of the crane, and/or place them on the part/end opposite of the boom arm.

    I'm writing this as the video reaches the 2/3rds mark in time. I think you should weaponize the crew module for defense vs missiles at the very least. I don't know if you have meteorites on, but they are a legit danger as well, especially when you're getting ready to launch. A couple of guns should be enough defenses, I think.

    • @Splitsie
      @Splitsie  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No meteors, those things are lag machines and I've not found them to be especially fun to play with. I won't be adding any turrets to this due to the small size but will try to leave space for turrets to get added to the main stage to provide some covering fire if I need to escape :)

  • @shaneedwards596

    was just thinking when you mentioned about the atmo module to boost you up, and detach.... what if you have it so that upon impact with the ground, it has 2 solar panels which rotor out to provide enough power for the beacon ?
    this should provide sufficient power especially if the atmo thrusters shut down upon detaching to allow it to drop and safely decend via chutes... and should be able to remain intact for the most part for the duration until you are able to recover too

    • @Splitsie
      @Splitsie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @arlomabary6652
    @arlomabary6652 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe put remote control blocks on each stage and give each stage an LZ with G.P.S. coordinates and have them land back at base. So like a timer block that activates a at remote control and a merge block, it detaches and the remote comes on sets autopilot and lands back a base. Then no need to go out with a separate vehicle and you can save both time and power.
