      Don't the parachutes need the Autodeploy to be turned on even when using a timerblock? I'm curious.

      Timer blocks act like a player interaction, parachutes should only need auto deploy if something isn’t triggering the parachutes.

      Bonus points if Splitsie can get someone to stand in as commander, or grab sound bites for that from somewhere, like google translate or whatever. Do timers and soundblocks, or just some hotbars and soundblocks? :P

      Maybe add just the four directional thrusters, gyro, two or three small batteries, and a remote and make it a simple drone to arrive at a target gps? The native drone AI might be able to handle that kind of gantle arc, imho. I just don't know if the lack of up&down thrusters will impact the drone's behavior.

    [Original comment] Oh, man, I was looking forward to this! :D I recently found the series and binge-watched the whole thing. Was kinda sad when episode 24 ended. I made a liftsie in my survival world too... Couldn't get MArmOS to work with it, unfortunately... It wasn't necessarily a MArmOS issue, it was a clang issue. Those opposing rotors generate phantom forces even if they're completely centered on the swivel rotor. I could make it turn left and right and have the 2 rotors working in parallel on elevation, but whenever I'd connect the 2 elevation rotors, the whole thing would freak out & start spinning around the Z axis, and there was nothing marmos could do to control it, so I gave up.
    You know... instead of jumping at the buttons, you could set up a second hotbar for the liftsie's remote and have the bucket controls on that ;).

      Good idea, though while he's remote controlling he won't really be able to look at a display.

    For the boosters, if you’re worried about power I’d recommend doing like the mayday signals and have the beacon turn on and off over an interval. On enough for you to get oriented but not long enough to kill the battery.

  • @UfoLBeerSeeker
    @UfoLBeerSeeker 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Remember to check all the thrusters are in their respective groups, h2, left booster, right booster, remora, lifting ones etc.
    Attach sound blocks to give of loud "OOO!" in Capac's voice in most epic moment :) Or just regular alarm during takeoff just for style.
    Make sure booster engines are switched off by timer block or they may drain battery after separation.
    You could use programmable block to change beacons broadcast text. For example after deployed parachutes it would add "Deployed" to its signal. It should be easy to write.
    Also programmable block would be usefull to manage whole separation process with one click. If you want i can try to wirite custom script for you. Unless you already record new episode as i'm few days late here.

  • @JonRumfelt1975
    @JonRumfelt1975 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm getting caught up, so this might have been brought up. But I would put your merge block disconnect in the timer block of the boosters. Then on your payload stage set a timer block to activate both timer blocks. Put all your checklists into timer blocks!! This makes them repeatable, and less likely to make mistakes.
    Can't wait to see what you've done.

    Tossing in a bunch of items to include to the checklist:
    -Fuel check (Tanks, Engines reserve, optionnal Ice Backup)
    -Battery Charge
    -Food/Water/O2
    -Gatling Ammo
    -Check for damage on the craft's functionnal parts
    -Timers setup and hotbarred (They should be reset when merge detaches for example)
    -Parachutes loaded
    -Cargo and drills emptied
    -Tools/Personnal weapon/Medkits/Powerkits/Coffee
    -Crawler secured (Handbrake on/Landing gear locked on voxel or static grid)
    -Booster and Main Hydro Thrust Cruise controls set-up (Fuel efficiency)
    -Spare repair parts for critical functions
    -RCS Thrusters group
    I would suggest a tiny attacheable drone with camera to scout out potentially dangerous area to avoid risking the crew and craft itself, potential use for the small hydro tanks (dampeners hardly required for space flight). As well as good lighting and cameras for the drilling part especially. For the boosters i'd leave the beacons off until they are needed, perhaps activated by timers after booster stage drop off.

    I love the idea of the colour change for damage, I did this on my builds in escape from mars, whenever I replaced a block I replaced it with a solid grey like it was brand new metal plates. It looks even better now than we have battered and rust skins that you can apply whenever you repair a block that was only a little damaged. I admit it can be a bit to keep up with but I’m an RPer at heart and I love the story it gives a build.

    for the antennas, you gonna use the satalite dishes from frostbite? i think that would look pretty good on those hills.
    to add to the checklist:
    - set up all your hotbars for the diffent stages
    - check all your antena ranges are set to max (just before launch due to power usage)
    -check if you have canvasas in all parachute blocks
    - turn on or off the hydrogen engines when needed
    other ideas:
    - build a cheap quick satalite for orbital relay station with some solar?
    - build an camera up on the mountains with the antenna for a good overview shot / and maybe visual confirmation if the parachute deployed (have cappac man those cameras during lauch for that remote ground station chase cam feeling.
    good luck,and good flight!

    You might want to consider a large grid Hydrogen tank piped on to the base to allow you to accumulate fuel. There will come a time when you need to relaunch rapidly and not make three trips with the gufi to do so. I play on the Keen servers, and I don't even use hydrogen that much, but my base has H2 and O2 tankage. They are some of the first things I build.

    One thing for the list, make sure to check your parachutes. Make sure the autodeploy is off at launch and will turn on when the boosters are let go. Better safe than sorry is a very good thing.

  • @dragnon4925
    @dragnon4925 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    1. Could you have autodeploy on at all times and just toggle the chutes on/off like you want to with auto deploy?
    2. Check center of mass and move chute position accordingly so they land the way you want especially if you have a landing gear you want them to land on to prevent any damage on landing to the boosters themselves.
    3. Add landing gear on the Crawler to prevent it from flipping when you tilt to launch position and make sure boosters fit without interfering with the tilt process.
    4. Small grid water recycler.
    5. Pre-flight checklist to check on connections on hot bar are set up correctly and easily controllable/rememberable.
    6. Try not to get to excited that you'll be able to use your jet pack properly again and make sure you bring extra H2 tanks just incase you celebrate a little too much. ;)

    Splitsie, you could bring your comm relay with you. A small battery, a gyro, a programmable block for solar panel alignment, a small solar panel, an antenna, attached by either merge block or landing gear to the main stage. As you reach the end of your antenna range, detach a comm relay satellite. Bring at least two and you could get over 100 km away from surface.

  • @AlejandroBosque
    @AlejandroBosque 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great episode as always Splitsie! Cannot wait for the launch!
    I need to add a caution comment. I like to play Kerbal Space Program a lot and when detaching booster sections from main sections, there is always a need for separation force between the two stages. If only disconnected, stages tend to collide with each other and create unwanted explosions on such stages. I don't think that the merge block will have enough repulsion force to separate both sections and those boosters are going to hit everything they can on their way down to the planet. Please add something to separate them safely after detachment.
    One more comment, maybe a post with a unified list will be good...

    The emergency ration uses a lot of power and is very slow in producing stuff. (If you are hungry or thirsty, you will die befor it even finish something)
    Instead of this, use a small cargo container that fit in this space and put it full with food and water.
    If you have some meat from the drones, put it in the Food Protein Re-Sequencer to clone the meat. It takes some time (and other stuff) but you only need 0.33 meat and get 3kg from it.
    Im currently playing your scenario and moving to a new base location. Only 3 Iron locations and surrounded by very big hills and deep valleys. 1.9G is realy a challenge. Sadly the NPCs spawn no drones to f me up (by now)

    1) You could use the connector at the bottom of the main stage to connect to a set of large cargo containers with parachutes and beacons built in space to drop ore to the planet.
    2) I would be cool, if you built laser antennas on both mountains. :)

    The prelaunch checklist for remote launches should be in the launch vehicle cockpit.
    REVERSE LIGHTS ON THE GUFI. Sorry for caps, but so you don't forget.
    To prevent dizziness, perhaps build yourself a medium cargo container sandwiched between two Connectors, that the Searchie can carry up and down for when you're building on rooftops. Since the container should never be left sitting disconnected, it won't need a power source. But then you could bring say the bits and pieces for a new turret up in the container, rather than hoofing it up and down the spinny staircase. That said accidents happen, so a small battery in recharge mode just like on the absconder isn't a terrible idea.

    Maybe you could leave the chutes auto-deploy on, but turn the chute block it self off, and then set the timer to turn the chute blocks back on when they separate. This would effectively give you a separate on and off function like you wanted. Also maybe add a water recycler to the Remora command module so you can make some water if you find ice up there, since the water drains faster then food.

    Since the parachute don't have seperate actions to turn the auto-deploy on or off, you could always turn the parachute block off and enable auto-deploy from the start, and then use the timers to turn the block back on. That way you can spam the timer block hundres of time in a panic, and the auto-deploy will be active. :)

    I've followed all your series for the last couple of years - one thing I've never seen you do yet, and maybe this is a prime opportunity to do so - is set up any kind of laser antenna relay. Maybe instead of putting a regular antenna set to max range on top of the mountain, put a laser antenna up there and then put a laser antenna on the Ramora? Could make for interesting watching anyway :)

    I nearly jumped when you connected the crawler to the base for the first time and the Hydrogen Engines kicked on. As far as the mountains go, I think it would be fun to build Antenna parts and minibase parts and haul them up there via truck like you and Capac did with the modules in Frostbite. It would mean having to possibly build access roads which could serve a roleplay function for "maintenance"

    • @AsilarWindsailor

      Will the antenna stations have rotating bits for fun? The idea of building sections of them at a time and hauling them to location where they can get craned on sounds like a fun feat of engineering. Flight crew checklists usually go item by item, if there are two things to check there are two entries, so instead of saying "do x AND y" you'd see two separate entries one for "do x" then another entry for "do y", this helps prevent skipping the second step, this seems like an unnecessary step, but consider that the only pilots who could argue that, didn't survive their crashes.

  • @RAFMnBgaming
    @RAFMnBgaming 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should reconnoitre a good landing spot (or a couple of good landing spots) for the Remora to aim towards on the way down. You know, flat areas with enough space to movie the crawler and the crane in next to the landed ship, and sufficiently far enough away from home to avoid crashing into the top of your base.

  • @alexanderfl-ts3171

    Use laser antenna, it is less convenient but range is huge. On Earth like planet with radius of 60km, 0G at altitude ~40km, even there regular antena is not really enough to remote control, but there you can place retranslator in 0G region.
    You need ~100tons of ice to refuel lower stage and ~10-20tons to refuel upper stage. Make sure you don't leave a lot of ice in the rocket when will launch, you don't need that extra weight.
    Also since you use timer to drop busters, you can set safety switch, button on hotbar which will stop timer in case you change your mind or you start detaching busters by mistake.

      Only 1 timer is needed: just have it trigger "Toggle On/Off" for the beacon and start itself.
      Though it would be better to have the beacon off more than on, such as on for 3 seconds, off for 30. That's almost as convenient for locating the boosters while using 20% of the energy, though it would require 2 timers (or 1 PB)

    instead of multiple launches for things that you need in high quantity (like iron) i could imagine you just send home a container full of stuff. Just the container, the simplest of thruster setup for space maneuver and a parachut to drop it above a gps near the base.
    And another idea regarding the antenna relais: i guess you should use the laser antenna for that purpose to avoid too much attention to these outposts.

    • @Splitsie
      @Splitsie  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be the plan for once I've got some things established up there, but not an option for this initial unmanned launch
      Laser antennas aren't an option, they require parts I can't build (I don't have the gold that's needed) and they need direct line of sight so it's very easy to become disconnected when used between mobile grids.
