The steel is not really a "downside". It holds an edge amazingly and is much easier to get razor sharp than stainless. I carry a small perfume sample to hold the oil. The amount of items that can be fit in the new nylon sheath makes this the ultimate all in one knife.
I know this is an old comment but you really dont need to worry about the oil so much. With regular use and occasional oiling (weeks or months in between) 1095 holds up really well unless you soak it in water for days.
Wow! Thanks bro. We currently don't have any discount codes. I do put links to everything that I show... to the best prices I have found on Amazon... in the video descriptions. I've found that usually Amazon beats most prices period. It's where I shop... Thank you for the encouragement also. ~David
Glad you are back... we'll still have Gerber stuff but certainly not nearly as much as in the past... Times have changed... we have a TON of great stuff coming up. Stand by! ~David
I finally bought one a few days ago. I cannot wait to get it. I have looked at a ton of knives. This was my choice. Thank you for your review as it made my mind glad I picked this knife
Good question. They all fill different needs and styles. That's why there are so many knife companies... everyone has their preference. I know this sounds like a "safe" answer, but I own them all and they are all good for particular situations. So, I do reviews, so you guys can have more info to select the ones that suit your needs and style. Hope this helps. ~David
I've tried to break mine several times. I've also tried to break the tip off by pounding it in a log a little ways and hitting the handle with a small log. The only thing I've done is scratch some of the black coating off the blade and there are some scuffs on the handle. That's it. Imo very durable knife.
Hello David, I have seen many reviews on the BK, but I find yours to be fabulous. Very informative and thinking for the user. Thank you for the effort you put into your videos. I can see you must put many hours of research and testing to come up with the information you provide, and the reward is a high quality, highly informational and unbiased video. Cheers. Great knife too.
It's a great knife but the coating had to go on my BK2 and BK11. It's IMO useless as i point out in my review of this knife. All sorts of particles and stuff get stuck in it and is hard to remove. Not good if you want to process food also. I carry and use it a lot and does not find it heavy. I carry it every day at the homestead. Regards, Lars
Gods, What I wouldn't do for the BK2! I have been looking for a good knife and KaBar is my dream knife! Being on a budget limits what one can afford though. So I live vicariously through you big guy! Keep up the great vids. I look forward to each and everyone of them!
Thanks for the kind words! The SOG jungle primitive looks interesting... I'll see if I can get one in here... remind me in a few weeks again too... We've been pretty busy... Thanks bro! ~David
I bought mine a couple of months ago. Taking it with me hunting next month. Did not like the sheath that came with it. Impossible to withdraw. Replaced it with a leather sheath that has attached a ferrocium rod and a pouch that held a sharpening stone that I replaced with some “Quick Fire.” Now it’s a great Survival as well as bushcraft Knife.
Depends what you want bro! The BG knife is a good first knife with a package including some great survival essentials. If you want a knife you can't kill no matter what... the BK2 is a nice choice. You can go up from there... Buck Hoodlum or Hood Punk, ESSE 4,5,6, Many Tops Knives, Ontario SK5, CRKT stuff, Busse, Habilis... etc... We'll be getting into more and more mid and high end knives soon... Stand by...
I ordered mine. Love it! The first knife in the final line up is a SCHF9, just for the record. You are my favorite youtuber. Great, professionally done reviews and survival videos.
Not a good idea since the tang is exposed and it has handle slabs, not a molded handle. But even if it had a molded handle... because the pommel is attach to the blade steel it would not be particularly safe for this task. The Gerber LMF II ASEK is designed for this though... Check it out... Hope this helps. ~David
Thanks for the encouragement bro... Yes, they take quite some time to test gear, shoot and produce... but they are the way I always wished reviews were done... Glad you like them too... :) ~David
Make sure you put lock-tite on the hex screws in the handle and on the sheath. Everyone I have talked to that has one, and my own BK-2 lost a couple screws before realizing they were missing.
Hey Larry... Let common sense dictate... because of the Chromium... it does have some stain resistance... but I just wipe the blade with Mineral Oil and leave it... with use when it's not raining, I don't do anything... you can just treat it like any other knife... in time with a good bit of use the edge will form a natural petina (I think that's how you spell it)... from the acids and oils... this is a natural protective coating... of course when you sharpen the petina needs to rebuild.
Hey David. This is crazy, but the very first time I ever got into knives, watching knife videos or asking my dad for a one when I was a senior in high school, your videos were the first ones I ever watched! It was actually the SOG force. Unfortunately, they don’t make it anymore, but I’m glad that your videos were the first ones I ever saw when getting into the knife game!
Solid overview and test! Did you experience any problems with the sheath? Some sheaths from the BK2 seem to dull the edge as the edge comes in contact with steel inside the sheath..
I bought that knife at a gun show in 1990 or so. Dayton Ohio. The blade is painted D2. I paid $60.It has no marks branding, model.nor maker. Been in my rig for about 30 years.Awesome.
No... I don't think so... For the most part the edge never touches the sheath... and even if it did... the blade steel is a LOT harder than the sheath plastic... so it should not every dull the knife even if it makes contact. Hope this helps! ~David
Thanks for another great review. I saw a review that said the handle was too slick and it looks like it to me but he did replace it easily with a replacement. Due to its size, weight, and a handle I don't necessarily like it won't be my hiking knife but I may still get one for a home utility knife. Tempting.
I own several Beckers and I love them all. I use my BK 9 with a BK 24 on board for large and small tasks. And I use my BK 10 as a one knife solution. I prefer it to the BK 2 because of the drop point and the sheath is Molle compatible
Considering everything, price, steel, design, function, size, etc. It is my number one choice for a survival knife/one tool wilderness belt knife. Especially for newer people since the low price and toughness will allow you to learn and try everything without the worry of breaking it.
Dude love the channel i just subscribed. i watched this video and your other on the Schrade Extreme Survival Knife. I went onto amazon and got the Ka-Bar Becker BK2. It will be here Thursday. Thanks for the review it really helped make up my mind on a camping survival knife.
I got the BK-7 due to large hands and I thought it would make a better chopper that the BK-2. That knife is super sharp and super durable. Waited till Christmas got mine for cheaper from Amazon due to a sale. I would tell anyone this is the knife you need. Has a polyester sheath with an area for a smaller knife and additional pocket space for anything else.
I enjoyed learning about this knife, which seems to fit nicely in your hand. As a woman, I have a smaller hand and am concerned that the grip might be too large for me to get a sturdy grasp on it. Has your wife tried using this knife, and if she had, how would she rate it for use by women?
Yo, I'm new to your Channel, I just saw your review on the Becker to K Bar, do you think this knife to do good in a combat situation? Do you think you'll be a go 2 knife for someone who has combat training and needs to use it rather than a firearm?
Hello! I am looking forward t buy this knife. I found one site where they have it, but it reads that the handle is Zytel. What does it mean and should this mean that the knife is fake?
Ahhhh... These were our standard issue back in the Marine Corps.... didn't think much of them back them... just standard issue... just learn to use it and not think about anything else. Yes... I should get one in there and have a reunion! :) ~David
I am really young compared to like a 90 year old!!! Haa, haa. God has been good to me... I feel young too... except when I go over to the local university and play B-Ball with the college kids... then I feel old... especially the day after. You will understand one day... But for now... I am happy to just be in the game. Take care. ~David
I used an HK conspiracy fixed blade tanto on my last camping trip. Used it to split wood, make shavings. It's a good knife. Would like to Try this one out. Regardless, I carry pocket knife as edc. This looks like a good camping/bush craft knife. Looks like it can take a decent amount of beating. In the end, that's really what I need. A knife that can take a beating and get an edge back on it easy.
Hi David - Excellent video. Curious - what do you use to sharpen this knife? I recently bought a Work Sharp, but I am guessing that would be too small to use to sharpen this, unless you use it in Grind Mode (which I haven't done yet).
Hey man - I've been able to sharpen my bk2 just fine in my worksharp. Believe it or not, I use the 15 degree kitchen knife attachment and I've gotten mine razor. Thanks!
I have some TOPS blades coming... Not sure what's in the order. But we should have some Tops reviews coming in the Fall and Winter... Stand by... ~David
I'm a BK2 fan (read bias) but I have watched 30+ reviews and this was by far the best yet. For the price it's very hard to beat so I can look past the less than perfect sheath and grivory handles. Changing both to something better still brings you in under the ESEE 5, which is the Becker`s closest competition apples to apples.
You should have pointed out that that particular sheath with the glass filled nylon dulls the blade. Kabar released the BK22 which is the same knife but comes with a polyester sheath that doesn't dull the blade.
The Ka-Bar Becker line pretty much has a blade for most every use and they are very well made. The 1095cv steel holds an edge very well and it can rust but doesn't seem super prone to it. I stripped all the coating off my BK9 so now it's just bare steel. I used it to chop a branch in a swimming hole and it got wet. I casually wiped it across my shirt and put it back in the custom kydex sheath I have for it and all I got was some tiny spotting.
Just got it! I didn't realize how heavy it would be. It is awesome! Came razor sharp. I have a bald spot on my wrist now. :D The family said holy crap when they held it because of the weight and how solid it was. Thanks for the review everything you said about the knife is spot on. Oh and smile i did. ~Leo
Live all of your reviews they are the perfect combo of testing and review and are all around some of the best out there. Also if you want to add some extra rust protection to the bk2 I'd look into a patina
David, Congrats on your son's wedding. Great comprehensive review of the Becker BK2. You mention it needs minimal care with mineral oil. By minimal do you mean once in a while, after each use, or only if it gets wet? To me, that's the only real drawback. Take care, Larry
Always love and appreciate your videos. Please send best wishes to your son and new daughter in law best wishes myself and all of your of your other fans.
In my humble opinion, it is a stab regardless of the steel, it is in line with what it was created for and the 1095 steel is perfect for heavy tasks. Mr. Becker knew what he was doing when he created this bk2 model, without a doubt very versatile, the price is somewhat high.

Finally!!!! I've been waiting for ur review of this blade for weeks!! I love ur vids David! Thanks man! I've had 3 bk2s. Hell of a blade! Thanks again for the great vids. ~wolf
The steel is not really a "downside". It holds an edge amazingly and is much easier to get razor sharp than stainless. I carry a small perfume sample to hold the oil. The amount of items that can be fit in the new nylon sheath makes this the ultimate all in one knife.
very helpful comment sir as I'm very new to all of this!!!! again thank you
I have the bk10
I know this is an old comment but you really dont need to worry about the oil so much. With regular use and occasional oiling (weeks or months in between) 1095 holds up really well unless you soak it in water for days.
The Chinese made sheath should be American made
perfume sample .
Not sure what you mean... do you mean, will it spark fire steel?
Watching this I feel like if I call now, I'll get another BK2 free, and if I don't like it, I can send it back within 30 days!
😂Good point
Links are in the video description... if you are in the U.S. best price for this blade should show from Amazon... Hope this helps! ~David
Wow! Thanks bro. We currently don't have any discount codes. I do put links to everything that I show... to the best prices I have found on Amazon... in the video descriptions. I've found that usually Amazon beats most prices period. It's where I shop... Thank you for the encouragement also. ~David

Hope it does you well, as I am also wanting to get one
You should check out the bk10 also, still a tank but slices way better
I put a link on the video description... it should take you to about the lowest price online...

I just got this knife yesterday. It's marvelous and awesome!
Very kind of you to say! Thank you! ~David
I love my KA-BAR BECKER BK2 COMPANION and my KA-BAR USMC
Did I say SCHF10? I did compare the SCHF10 earlier but showed the SCHF9 at the end... did I make a mistake? Thanks man! ~David
Wow! Thank you for the kind feedback bro! ~David
I've tried to break mine several times. I've also tried to break the tip off by pounding it in a log a little ways and hitting the handle with a small log. I can see why bro... I've started to carry mine in my day pack! I'm falling in love all over again... :) ~David
Hello David, I have seen many reviews on the BK, but I find yours to be fabulous. Very informative and thinking for the user. Thank you for the effort you put into your videos. have had mine for almost a year and love it. Have other knives but keep coming back to this one all the time. Great review David.
You just showed all the knives I want at the end. It was so beautiful to see them side by side
Hi Joel... do you mean Condor Knife and Tool? If so, I do have like 5 or 6 of there machetes and parangs here... TOUGH STUFF!!!
It's a great knife but the coating had to go on my BK2 and BK11. It's IMO useless as i point out in my review of this knife. All sorts of particles and stuff get stuck in it and is hard to remove. I plan on getting one of this fellas in the near future!

I've been looking at this blade for some time - your review just convinced me. Off to order it now. Thanks...
*THIS IS THE MOST PROFESSIONAL VIDEO I`VE SEEN ON TH-cam IN A LOOOOONG TIME*
Used mine for years. Love it.
Thanks for the encouragement bro... Yes, they take quite some time to test gear, shoot and produce... but they are the way I always wished reviews were done... Glad you like them too... :) ~David

Hello David you have some of the best reviews on youtube by far!!!!!!

Great review! This might just be my next “knife to replace all knives” acquisition!
thanks for the kind comment! it's appreciated.
Great comment and tip. Thanks! ~David

Still a relevant knife and video. Well done. I have confidence in your input/recommendations.
Best knife reviewer on TH-cam.
Holy smokes. Excellent review- man I did not expect the level of detail ( without useless filler ) plus the well shot and edited scenes
I enjoyed learning about this knife, which seems to fit nicely in your hand. As a woman, I have a smaller hand and am concerned that the grip might be too large for me to get a sturdy grasp on it. Has your wife tried using this knife, and if she had, how would she rate it for use by women?
Linda Barnes get a bk10 it'll fit your hand much better
Yo, I'm new to your Channel, I just saw your review on the Becker to K Bar, do you think this knife to do good in a combat situation? Do you think you'll be a go 2 knife for someone who has combat training and needs to use it rather than a firearm?
im happy for your new family menbers and great review as always!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A basic, good sturdy knife. I love it.
You got it bro! Glad you enjoyed! ~David
Very cool. Yes... I have a growing appreciation for a good quality Kydex Sheath too... Take care bro. ~David
Good review. I have been trying to decide if it is for me. It does seen quite tough. Thanks for sharing.

Sweet - eventually I will get around to getting a BK2 and that is how I will sharpen mine as well.
Thanks for getting back to me.
Quality information, review and production as always. Thanks David!
I have some TOPS blades coming... Not sure what's in the order. But we should have some Tops reviews coming in the Fall and Winter... Stand by... ~David

Great review! I went with the BK7 awhile back and I love it. The BK2 was my first choice but I wanted the extra length the BK7 offered.
Dude!!! This is an AWESOME Encouragement! Thank you so much!!! ~David
It is a saber grind. Once the powder coat is removed, it does better than expected for slicing.
Bought the Tahoma field knife and love it! Been looking to get one of the beckers for a while, I think the bk2 will be added to the collection
Hello David, congratulations on your son's wedding. Great review, I really like this knife, love the fact it's made in America. S. Sawyer in TEXAS
~Leo
Nice vid! I love watching earth, explore and relax...
Gottcha... Yes... the Schf10 is quite a blade for the price. Thanks for the comment! ~David
Live all of your reviews they are the perfect combo of testing and review and are all around some of the best out there. Also if you want to add some extra rust protection to the bk2 I'd look into a patina
David,
Congrats on your son's wedding.
Great comprehensive review of the Becker BK2. You mention it needs minimal care with mineral oil. By minimal do you mean once in a while, after each use, or only if it gets wet? To me, that's the only real drawback.
Take care,
Larry
Always love and appreciate your videos. Please send best wishes to your son and new daughter in law best wishes myself and all of your of your other fans.
In my humble opinion, it is a stab regardless of the steel, it is in line with what it was created for and the 1095 steel is perfect for heavy tasks. Mr. Becker knew what he was doing when he created this bk2 model, without a doubt very versatile, the price is somewhat high.
??? Not sure what you mean bro... Please explain. Thanks ~David
No... it's high carbon steel with a touch of Chromium for some stain resistance and vanadium to make up the hardness lost by the addition of the chromium...
This was Kabar's answer to the Top's Tom Brown Tracker 1 and it's awesome vs a $300 knife that is awkward and impossible to sharpen. I wonder if Swamp People use it skinning gators in Florida.
MSK-1 Survivalist is $300 and its an exact copy of this Ka-Bar Warthog. MSK-1 came up with $150-$200 version and this a great suvivalist knive for $60.
Good comment! Thanks! ~David
it's also know as a ricasso or sharpening choil and it helps to prevent recurve from forming after many sharpenings as happens on knives without a ricasso.
NICE! Do you work for them? I looked them up. Very nice stuff. We need to get some of their gear in here! ~David
Nice. Yes the finish does drag a bit... I may follow suit one day... Thanks! ~David
If you had to choose between the Gerber Lmf II and the Ka-Bar becker BK2 in a survival scenario, which one would you pick?
I'm sold, thanks for the review.
Finally!!!! I've been waiting for ur review of this blade for weeks!! I love ur vids David! Thanks man! I've had 3 bk2s. Hell of a blade! Thanks again for the great vids. ~wolf
I know the video is a few years old, but the ESEE 5 is just as thick and also a tank. Don't know which knife came out first. Love my ESEE 5 though.
