    Yoel wasn’t eligible to win the title, however, he also wasn’t eligible to win the interim title against Rockhold. Yet it was still a title fight for Rockhold. The same logic should’ve been applied here. It should have been a title defense for Rob but not a title fight for Yoel. At the end of the day, Rob is still competing at 185 and proving he’s the best at that weight. If he loses, fair enough he still keeps the title because his opponent wasn’t at the same weight. But if he wins he still defends his title at 185.

      I would argue the same, but the problem is that it would be a win-win situation for Rob. If he win, let's call it a defence, if he loses, he won't lose his belt due to Romero's inability to make championship-weight. Essentially, Rob had no stake in the fight

Yes he did win, but he faced so much adversity in that fight its clear he has work to do before challenging for the title, let alone double-champ status. It was probably the best thing to happen for Khamzat as he knows he's not invincible, can be beaten and needs to fight smarter and more technical in the future. If Khamzat just ran through Gilbert Burns like many expected him to, there's a very good chance Usman would have exposed him. For Khamzat, he needs at minimum one more fight before we can consider giving him a title shot. No belt was on the line since Rob couldn't lose it. If a champion can't lose their belt in an upcoming fight, its not a title defence. It makes no sense that a champion can defend their belt and pad their record when they have no chance of losing it to begin with as the challenger was ineligible to win it. At the end of the day, Rob's win over Yoel is not and should not count as a title defence.

      I suppose Nunes might fit on that list, as well as Chris Weidman but once Chris went up against someone his own age, he lost. Perhaps Robbie Lawler as well. Although to be fair, he was dubbed the Mike Tyson of MMA before his first downfall started and then his amazing career turn-around. I was complaining for about 2 years as I felt like the UFC was intentionally giving Max easier fights to boost his longevity as champion by keeping Volk away from him. I always said Usman was like Tyron 2.0 a bigger, faster, younger, and more dominant version of Tyron Woodley.
      With DC, he was undefeated and a Strikeforce champion, as well as King of the Cage champion. I've been wrong plenty of times, but I always felt those 3 were destined to have long reigns as champions.

      @luckyhodcastellana3366 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@stekelly9182 it would be disingenuous if the two sports were even remotely similar. Im surprised you would make that argument at all. MMA is an individual sport, fighters are individual contractors not belonging to a team and these fighters, are under one organization. Soccer is vastly different. And the organizations know for a fact they cannot allow players or other teams, (which are also organizations under the supreme organization) to contact, woo or tempt them in to joining their team. Im not clear on soccer never cared for it but if i had to guess they have something similar to the NFL and NBA, which is a trade deadline during the season put in place where teams cannot trade or pick up any free agents after the deadline, or as others would call it bringing in a ringer. Teams would lose their most valuable players to teams just for a chance to win a super-bowl or the NBA championship. All that shit goes out the door with fighting. The UFC has the problem of needing to make fights that both make sense in the rankings to be fair to those that earned it, and also make the fights that the majority fan base want to see. And when the most popular fighter ever in your company’s history and all of the fight game, by a vast margin wants to move up and become a champ champ instead of defending… yeah… you’re gonna do it. The casual fan is disingenuous in not caring or paying any attention to the myriad of great fighters and highlight reel killers that exist in every weight class and they only want the ones who are most known to them to be on their television. But, What’s also disingenuous are the hardcore fans and their self righteousness and lack of wisdom for not understanding that the UFC has to market and make money too. And fighter’s that can’t capture the public by hustling to grab their attention that falls on them also. That age old saying “you can’t please everyone”. You also forget the timing in which Conor got his fight at 155 and what the UFC was going through. Remember they were really at the time only fighting in Vegas and some other places around the world but they could never get into New York. Once they finally got licensed to put on a show at the garden who did they need to put a stamp on their entrance into MSG? Oh that’s right… their most iconic and popular fighter ever.. thats smart business. What is ignorant, self righteous, and hypocritical, are fans who decry stuff like that and pretend to hate it, yet they buy the ppv or watch it all of which is supporting the ufc. They’re not boycotting it. If that was the case they wouldn’t still be using Conor as a money making machine. But what’s worse, is sitting around judging them on what they’re doing which if any fan found themselves in that position they would be doing the same thing. Making the fights that make money for the company.

He was always looking for the next 'unprecedented' thing but I really wish he'd never taken the Mayweather fight, possibly successfully defended a few times and then attempted welterweight with Woodley for the triple champion status in 2017-18 (I think he would have had a puncher's chance if it was Till Woodley but if it was The Frozen One I think he would have been the most capable man to do it). The Mayweather fight ruined him. He always needed martial arts to keep on the straight and narrow, even as a teenager while with Kavanaugh's gym he was in and out and hanging out with the wrong sorts and being a hundred millionaire is only going to give you more opportunity to go insane, which he took with both hands and chose to become coked out of his gourd, spending 2 years out of MMA, losing his movement based style and impenetrable mindset and then fighting barely once a year until 2021 where he snapped his leg.

    How about Uncle Chael? He let Silva keep the belt after beating him in both fights. A true gentleman and warrior, undefeated and undisputed.

    Winning the belt is one thing. Successfully defending it is another. The legacy of a true champ is defined be how long he/she can maintain their title fight after fight. It’s a shame that most of these fighters were unable to do that. However, it’s a DISGRACE for someone like McGregor to NOT defend not 1, but 2 Belts from 2 different divisions, and to hold both weight classes up, because of BS EXCUSES.
    If there was a list of Worst Champions EVER, McGregor would be among the Top 10, if not the Top of that List for sure.

    Conor didn't fight Nate Diaz twice for no reason. He fought Nate Diaz twice to duck rematches with Aldo and Max Holloway. He knew the Aldo fight was a fluke and that Max with more seasoning would smoke him.

    Could have also put Yan on here since he was well on his way to having a title defense before getting DQ and then came back and lost a SD to Aljo he could get it back but it’s going to be awhile before he gets another shot I believe

    • @madgavin7568
      @madgavin7568 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't help but think that the careers between Yan and Volk went in complete opposite directions to what the fans believed would happen (or wanted to happen). When Yan won the title, many believed this Russian badass was going to go on a dominant reign and establish himself as the next GOAT of the Bantamweight division. Meanwhile when Volk won the title, there wasn't a lot of buzz from fans who didn't think this Aussie bloke would hold it for very long and was essentially a placeholder champ for either Max Holloway to get his belt back, or for someone like Brian Ortega to finally realize his championship aspirations.
      In the end, it was Volk who established himself as a dominant champion and he looks poised to go on a title run rivalling Aldo's. While Yan became a disappointing one and done champion.
